Pro Padel League Appoints Diane Gotua as Chief Commercial Officer

Business Wire08-05-2025
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Pro Padel League (PPL), the world's top professional padel league with 10 teams in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, today announced the appointment of Diane Gotua as Chief Commercial Officer. A globally respected leader across sports, entertainment, and commerce, Gotua brings two decades of experience driving global expansion, innovation, and revenue growth at the National Basketball Association (NBA), Fanatics and on Wall Street.
In her new role, Gotua will lead the PPL's commercial strategy and execution across all revenue streams, including media rights, marketing partnerships, merchandise, licensing, hospitality, and franchise expansion. Working alongside CEO Mike Dorfman, Gotua will play an integral role in scaling the league's business and cultural footprint.
'Diane brings a rare blend of global experience, commercial acumen, and deep credibility across sports, with brands, athletes, and fans,' said Dorfman. 'She's a visionary leader who understands how to build platforms that shape culture.'
'I've seen firsthand how sport becomes a global force when it's fueled by culture - where athletes shape fashion, fandom drives commerce, and every moment becomes a story,' said Gotua. 'Pro Padel has that same potential. We're building more than a league. We're creating a lifestyle brand rooted in community, innovation, and global relevance. It's an incredible opportunity to join the PPL team to connect with fans in new ways and unlock value for partners who want to be part of something bold and meaningful.'
Gotua most recently served as Senior Vice President and Global Head of Strategy at Fanatics, where she led the development of the company's enterprise data and loyalty strategy and 'Fanatics Live,' the company's live commerce platform. Prior to Fanatics, she spent nearly a decade at the NBA, most recently as Vice President of Global Business Operations and Strategy. There, she led international expansion efforts such as the launch of the Basketball Africa League, the formation of NBA Africa, and the league's first-ever games in India.
Her early career includes leadership roles in global investment banking at Barclays and Lehman Brothers, as well as positions with the International Monetary Fund and World Bank. She earned an MBA at New York University.
Gotua joins the PPL at a moment of incredible momentum, following the league's recently announced $10 million seed round led by Left Lane Capital. The appointment underscores the PPL's commitment to building a world-class leadership team as it scales operations, partnerships, and fan-facing offerings in 2025 and beyond.

2 MLB Prospects we want to 'Seymour' of, plus chasing Louis Vuitton x Murakami Cards and McDonaldland Tins

By the time you read this, I may or may not be the owner of one (or several) Louis Vuitton x Murakami cards. A week ago I never knew they existed. A few days ago I didn't know where they came from. Today, I am obsessed with winning them. These are cool cards. And they're beautiful. And hey — PSA 10s! But what really drew me to them was the price — with two days left in the auction, they were still at $25-50, while being sold on eBay for hundreds. Maybe they will skyrocket as bidding ends, but for right now, I'm holding out hope that perhaps the fun little corner they exist in on Fanatics Collect (formerly PWCC) is kind of an undiscovered gem. Who would've thought? Anyway, stay tuned throughout Mail Day for what I assume will be a series of disappointing, anguished, resigned updates (yes, contrary to popular belief, I write Mail Day more than a few hours in advance of posting). The Rays called up slugger Bob Seymour on Friday and this is once again a case of me having a fantasy baseball crush on a future stud (remember Cam Schlittler?) without a Bowman. At least Seymour has a Leaf card, I guess? — in the 2016 'Perfect Game' set. Which seems a little creepy still. You could always pass on that and go after an Ian Seymour Bowman Chrome 1st auto. The Rays pitcher (coincidentally not related to Bob) is currently working as a reliever but should be in the rotation next year (and beyond). And then if we want to go a step beyond THAT, Seymour's future rotation-mate, Forrest Whitley, has been absolutely thrashing bats in AAA. He was once a top prospect in the Astros system; if he comes up and is awesome, those $12 autos should get up to $22-24 pretty easily. 'One day left' update on the Murakami cards — it got out of hand pretty quickly for at least three of the cards. I will say this about Fanatics Collect — their 'daily outbid' emails are fantastic. Also, I'm not fooling myself into thinking I'll be getting these for $50 (or at all) anymore, but I am super curious now as to how a bunch of these are $300+. Here comes the fast food portion of Mail Day. Feel free to skip… if you have no soul. McDonald's is doing that retro McDonaldland promotion and I have to say… it's cool, but it's not worth the money. You get a tin (which is smaller than it looks in ads — it's very flat and small to the point where I thought they forgot to give it to me when I ripped into my bag — you get some stickers, really well-designed postcards, and maybe a couple other things I forget about. Anyway, if it was $9.99 I would do it again for the fun of it. At $14-15 it's a hard pass. Bring back Lil' McDonald's!! Folks, it is now almost the end of the Murakami auctions and…things got out of control: The other cards are still relatively cheap — $220 at the moment. But before I blindly bid on them just because they might be some kind of bargain, I need to do some more research. Why are some more popular than the others? The research I did revealed they were a set, so there isn't a scarcity play here. I understand some characters are more 'collectible' than others, so maybe that's it. I need more time! And the bummer is I'm not sure how often these pop up. I kick myself for not buying every Sophie Cunningham card the moment she stood up for Caitlin Clark. I thought it was the peak; I was sorely mistaken. Am I also wrongly assuming we are at the LV/Mrakami peak? Give me a couple weeks and I'll have some answers. Maybe. Unless Wendy's puts something cool in their kids meals and it distracts me…
