Metro Railway Kolkata to run 398 services across all lines on I-Day
Kolkata, Aug 14 (PTI) Metro Railway Kolkata will operate a total of 398 train services across its Blue and Green Lines on Independence Day, officials said on Thursday.
In the Blue Line (Dakshineswar–Kavi Subhash), 182 services — 91 in each direction — will run on August 15 instead of the usual 262, a statement by Kolkata Metro said.
Special night services in the Blue Line will be available from Sahid Khudiram station at 10:43 pm and from Dum Dum at 10:40 pm.
On Green Line-1 (Sealdah–Sector V), 92 services (46 UP and 46 DN) will operate, compared to the regular 108 services.
On Green Line-2 (Howrah Maidan–Esplanade), 124 services (62 UP and 62 DN) will operate, down from the usual 134, the statement added. PTI SUS MNB

This Sunday, at an Aadhaar camp nearby, she plans to replace 'Pakistan Mohalla' with its new name 'Hindustani Mohalla' in her Aadhaar records. "I'm happy that our locality is getting a new identity. Locals said that in the past, attempts were made to update the name of the locality by naming an internal crossroads Hemu Kalani Chowk. However, that renaming was not popular with locals. Another resident, Ratan Chavda, 70, who is eager to go to the Aadhaar camp to update her address, said, "For decades, this locality was called Pakistan Mohalla, and the name stuck. I am happy I will get to update my address in Aadhaar records and see it replaced with Hindustani Mohalla." "This part of Ramnagar was dull in the past and people started calling it Pakistan. The name became popular and even the residents accepted it. It is good that it has now got a new identity," said Vijay Hasani, who runs a garment showroom at the entry point of Hindustani Mohalla. Housing society residents of Pune sing of patriotism, freedom for I-Day celebrations
Pune: Every Independence Day, patriotic anthems such as Vande Mataram and Ae Mere Watan are heard across the country on radios, televisions and even loudspeakers. Many housing societies organise special I-Day programmes to hoist the Tricolour and celebrate the day with patriotic songs, skits and other events. WhatsApp groups are filled with rehearsal clips, neighbours swapping lyrics and karaoke tracks, and participants of all ages adding their own twists to old favourites. An acoustic Saare Jahan Se Achha, a Hindustani style Jai Ho, and an a cappella Desh Rangeela are all part of the mix. "In uniform or out of it, the feeling never changes," said Pradeep Kulkarni, a retired soldier and resident of Kothrud. Every Independence Day, as the Tricolour is hoisted andthe air stills in reverence, Kulkarni and his wife step forward to lead the national anthem in a soul-stirring duet. "The moment the first note leaves my lips, it feels like the whole country is singing with me. Our national anthem is a salute to the land we call our home and a prayer for every soul that lives in it. When I sing it, I remember the faces of those who served and the sacrifices that built our country, and my heart overflows with great pride that comes from just being part of this great nation. In that moment, every voice around me feels like one heartbeat for India," said Kulkarni. At a housing society in Undri, the tradition belongs to the children. Society manager Richa Sharma said the youngest residents put together a medley of patriotic songs each year. "We set up speakers for the children to sing. It is wonderful to hear them sing songs that inspire patriotism. It gives the right vibes and makes the morning feel truly special. Residents gather in the courtyard and sing patriotic songs to their heart's content. "Senior citizens take the lead in the later part of the morning. Among them is 87-year-old Charulata Joshi, who sings Ae Mere Watan every year. Her voice sometimes quivers, yet the song always draws applause and stirs emotion. Her voice carries the echoes of the country's struggles and triumphs with every note," said Abhiraj Patil, a resident of the society. Some housing societies have organised online singing contests. "We invited entries of videos on our society's WhatsApp group for the Independence Day singing competition. We received a great response, with grandparents singing with their grandchildren, parents singing together, and solo performances. We will be giving prizes to the winners during our Independence Day programme," said Payal Shah, a resident of NIBM Road.

Tricolours made by special needs children to flutter at Madin campus
The students of Madin Able World here were ablaze with excitement on Thursday as they braced up to celebrate the 79th Independence Day. With determination and passion, they rose above their physical and mental challenges to craft thousands of vibrant Tricolour flags and badges. Their excitement was palpable on the Independence Day eve as they prepared to unfurl their handiwork on August 15. They made flags in varying sizes, symbolising the nation's unity and diversity. The pièce de résistance of the day was when the students gifted their handmade Tricolours to Madin Academy chairman Syed Ibrahim Khaleel Bukhari. Their faces radiated joy and pride as they watched him appreciate their gesture. The stage is set for a grand celebration of Independence Day on Friday as Madin Academy and its subsidiary institutions are prepared to unfurl the Tricolours made by the Madin Able World. 'I am thrilled to witness the joy of these children,' said Mr. Khaleel Bukhari. 'Differently abled children deserve to be an integral part of society. We must do everything possible to bring them into the mainstream, rather than isolating them,' he added. Madin Able World provides training to children with special needs aged 5-18. Their classes are tailored to their individual IQ levels. As part of their curriculum, students learn to craft various items such as disposable plates, umbrellas, candles, artificial flowers, seed pens, table mats, bags, earrings, bead chains and flags. The institution also offers equivalency programmes and scholarships to support their development.
