Wrexham hospice praises team on International Nurses Day
The nurses at the hospice support people with progressive or life-limiting illnesses, helping them to 'live their fullest lives'.

Laura Singleton, ward manager at Nightingale House Hospice, said: "Being a hospice nurse is a privilege.
"We're here to offer not just clinical care but a sense of peace and dignity.
"It's about helping people feel supported and empowered, even in the most difficult circumstances."
The nurses work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including GPs, doctors, healthcare assistants, pharmacists, complementary therapists, and social workers in the family support team and the spiritual care team.
Laura Drummond, advanced nurse practitioner at the hospice, said: "Our role is to advocate for the needs and wishes of our patients and their families while managing complex symptoms and care plans.
"Hospice nursing is about compassion, teamwork, and making a difference every single day."
The nurses at Nightingale House also play a key role in the wellbeing centre, helping patients maintain their independence and improve their quality of life through tailored programmes and therapies.
Carolyn James, wellbeing lead at Nightingale House, said: "Nurses are a crucial part of the wider care we offer at Nightingale House.

"Our holistic approach helps patients maintain independence and quality of life, and their emotional support is just as important as their clinical expertise."
The hospice says its is on helping patients live well for as long as possible, despite a progressive or life-limiting illness.
The nursing team embodies this philosophy daily, supporting patients and their loved ones with dignity, compassion and hope as they navigate their individual journeys'.

Oswestry Balloon Carnival support Nightingale House Hospice
Hot air balloons will fill the skies of Shropshire on Saturday as the ninth year of Oswestry Balloon Carnival opens. The event, held at Cae Glas Park across the weekend, is in aid of Nightingale House Hospice, which provides specialist palliative care services for those with life-limiting illnesses. Someone who knows only too well the impact of the hospice is Lorna Hankey, who was part of the team to suggest the balloon festival back in 2016. The 31-year-old, who works as the safety officer for the event, said she could not fault the hospice after it cared for both her aunt and grandmother who passed in quick succession in 2008. She said: "The services they provide are supportive for both the patients and the families. "Whenever someone has to go into a hospice it's never nice, but the team and the actual hospice is so lovely that you don't go in thinking you're going into a hospice, you go in thinking it's someone's house. "They really take care of family and patients so well." Ms Hankey said she was "very close" to her aunt, who died with bone cancer, and her grandmother, who had bowel cancer. "We lost them within a very short period of time. I think my aunt passed away in [the] August and my nan was the December following," she said. "I was very young at the time and the nurses at the hospice and Macmillan were great, they were so supportive. "They would bend over backwards to support families."Ms Hankey added: "Obviously, you don't want people to pass, but being in the situation we were in, I wouldn't have changed them for the world."I couldn't fault them." Entry to the event is free, although visitors are encouraged to make a voluntary donation of £2 upon entry to support Nightingale House Hospice. In 2024, the event raised £37,000, which Ms Hankey said was the target for 2025 as well. Elise Jackson, Events and Campaigns Manager at Nightingale House Hospice, said the event brought people together and raised "crucial funds". MS for Wrexham pays tribute to Nightingale House Hospice
MS for Wrexham Nightingale House Hospice has provided vital care and support to patients and their families for more than 30 years and it is clearly appreciated by the local community. In addition to providing specialist palliative care for those with life-limiting illnesses, Nightingale House also offers a wide range of services for individuals and families, including an out-patient clinic, occupational therapy, complementary therapies, physiotherapy including a hydrotherapy pool and an ambulance service. A range of bereavement support services are offered including a specialist service for children and young adults. I am in regular correspondence with Nightingale House and I recently visited the hospice once again to meet with Chief Executive, Lauren Emberton and Chair of the Board of Trustees, Chris Burgoyne. In recent years, the hospice has undergone an extensive renovation, with the centrepiece being a state-of-the-art 12-bed in-patient ward. More than £5m was invested in total and the work was finally completed in May 2024, following delays brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. The dedicated staff deliver outstanding care and support and following my latest visit, I have written to the Welsh Government Cabinet Secretary for Health & Social Care, Jeremy Miles MS, inviting him to visit so he can see firsthand all the excellent work that takes place. I also want to pay tribute to the 450 active volunteers who make such an invaluable contribution. Without their tireless efforts, the hospice would simply not be able to function. We are fortunate to have such a fantastic facility on our doorstep. Nightingale House remains a pillar of our community and I will continue to do all I can to support the hospice. In case you have missed it, Europe's largest cultural event is underway in Wrexham! The National Eisteddfod is taking place on the outskirts of the city centre in Isycoed until Saturday 9 August. Nightingale House Hospice in Wrexham praised by MS
Member of the Senedd for Wrexham, Lesley Griffiths, described Nightingale House Hospice as a 'pillar of our community' and commended its 'wraparound service' for individuals with life-limiting conditions during a recent visit. Ms Griffiths said: "Nightingale House has provided vital care and support to patients and their families for more than 30 years and it is clearly appreciated by the local community. "It provides not just end-of-life care, but a wraparound service for patients with life-limiting conditions." The Wrexham hospice delivers specialist palliative care and a range of services including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, complementary therapies, and bereavement support for all ages. It also operates a hydrotherapy pool, an outpatient clinic and ambulance service. Following her visit, Ms Griffiths wrote to Jeremy Miles, Welsh Government cabinet secretary for health and social care, to invite him to see the hospice first-hand. The hospice recently completed a £5 million refurbishment, including a new 12-bed in-patient ward, in May 2024.
