'We have two 'blankets' now' Texas A&M CB Will Lee III speaks on transfer Julian Humphrey
The 2025 Texas A&M Maroon & White Spring game answered many early questions about the defensive side of the ball. The team made plays on all three levels, limited the big plays, and caused several turnovers while looking in midseason form.
At the end of last season, coach Mike Elko made headlines for being upset about his team's inability to stop pass plays during the bowl game against a depleted USC Trojan football team. He took full responsibility for not having his team ready to play and said he would get more involved in the defense. However, he didn't just talk about it; he attacked it head-on, hitting the transfer portal and adding to his staff.
The Aggies got a head start on shoring up the cornerback position when Will Lee announced that he was returning for his senior season, but that still left a void when it came to experienced players who had success at a high level. A&M veteran Tyreek Chappell spent most of his time on the injured reserve list, and the talented Dezz Ricks struggled down the stretch.
Coach Elko brought some competition to the position when he picked up transfers Jordan Shaw from Washington and Julian Humphrey from Georgia. After getting rave reviews during spring practice, they put in some solid work during the spring game. Will Lee spoke on the defensive backs after the game.
"Jordan Shaw specifically like he's a dog. That's really been like a person I always felt close with since he came in. He's an open guy you can talk to him all day every day about anything and on the field, he knows what he's doing he's playing fast"
"Julio he's making great plays out there on the field and he's going to keep balling. So we got two blankets now so we going to put it to work"
The defensive back room now has depth and talent that have been working hard. Will Lee has confidence that they will be back on track and much improved, easing coach Elko's concerns from the end of last season.

Texas A&M to big leagues: 11 Aggies set to participate in MLB Draft Combine
Texas A&M to big leagues: 11 Aggies set to participate in MLB Draft Combine The Texas A&M baseball program will have five players and six signees from the 2025 class participate in the MLB Draft Combine this week. According to a report from GigEm247 reporter Carter Karels, left-handed pitchers Justin Lamkin, Myles Patton and Sgane Sdao, along with shortstop Kaeden Kent and center fielder Jace LaViolette, are the five Aggies who are set to compete at the combine, which kicks off Tuesday at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona. Three of those athletes are ranked in the top 200 draft prospects by with LaViolette now projected to be selected by the Milwaukee Brewers at the No. 20 spot in this year's draft. He capped off his collegiate career in his junior season with the Aggies this year with gutsy performances, such as playing through the SEC Tournament with a broken hand. The Katy, Texas, native slashed .285/.432/.651 during his time in College Station. Also included in the top 200 prospects rankings are two players from the 2025 class. Left-hander Johnny Slawinski (63rd) and outfielder Josiah Hartshorn (106th) round out Texas A&M baseball's prospects on the list. Joining Slawinski and Hartshorn from this year's recruiting class to enter the MLB Draft Combine are shortstops Nicholas Partida, Boston Kellner, and Matthew Boughton, along with outfielder Blaine Bullard. Every Texas A&M baseball player intending on participating in the combine is eligible to return to the program, depending on how they perform and where their draft stock trends over the coming days. There is no sugarcoating how the 2025 campaign ended for the Aggies was well below expectations set at the beginning of the year. Heading into this year's campaign, the club was ranked as the unanimous No. 1 team in the country during the preseason, which quickly faded as the program finished the season unranked and missed competing in the postseason for the first time since 2021. That mark left a sour taste in the mouths of Aggie fans across the country, as many continue to hope for head coach Michael Earley to turn things around in 2026. However, let's not get too ahead of ourselves here. The Aggies' skipper has done a tremendous job in the transfer portal, bringing in multiple top-rated portal prospects like former Florida Atlantic outfielder Jake Duer and pitcher MJ Bollinger. Earley's club also learned on Tuesday that outfielder Caden Sorrell will return for his junior season for the Aggies this year, which provides a major spark and depth to the Texas A&M outfield. The production lost to the MLB Draft is nothing to breeze over. Leaders like LaViolette and Kent, along with the 2025 signees, are huge hits to a program clamoring to make it back to the College World Series after reaching the championship game against Tennessee in 2024. Time will tell just how many players the program will lose to this year's MLB Draft, but it all depends on how they perform starting on Tuesday when the 2025 MLB Draft Combine commences. How many points did Caitlin Clark score today? Stats from Indiana Fever vs Connecticut Sun
How many points did Caitlin Clark score today? Stats from Indiana Fever vs Connecticut Sun In her second game back since missing five contests with a left quadriceps injury, Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark authored a very efficient performance against the Connecticut Sun. Clark scored a game-high 20 points and knocked down four 3-pointers in the Fever's 88-71 win over the Sun. The 6-foot guard finished 6-of-12 shooting from the field and 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. Clark added six assists, two steals and one rebound. With the win, the Fever improved to 6-5 on the season and captured a spot in the WNBA Commissioner's Cup Championship Game on July 1. Indiana forward Natasha Howard notched a double-double in the win, scoring 16 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell finished with 17 points on 8-of-18 field goal shooting. Indiana forward Damiris Dantas also finished in double figures, scoring 13 points in the win. The Fever shot 45.6% from the field, 42.3% from the 3-point line and connected on 15-of-16 free-throw tries. Indiana evened the season series against Connecticut (2-9) at a game apiece. The Sun topped the Fever 85-83 on May 30 in one of the games where Clark was sidelined. In what was an overall chippy night, Fever guard Sophie Cunningham earned some kudos from Indiana fans late. Cunningham went to bat for Clark, morphing into an enforcer with a hard foul on Sun guard Jacy Sheldon. Sheldon had been involved in a third-quarter sequence that resulted in her being assessed a Flagrant 1 foul after she poked Clark in the eyes. The ensuing dustup included Connecticut guard Marina Mabrey shoving Clark to the floor. In addition to Sheldon's Flagrant 1 foul, Clark, Mabrey and Sun center Tina Charles each received technical fouls. Cunningham, Sheldon and Sun guard Lindsay Allen were ejected late. Indiana will return to action on Thursday night at the Golden State Valkyries (5-5) with a 9 p.m. CT tipoff in a contest that will stream on Prime Video. Fans incensed Marina Mabrey wasn't ejected for Caitlin Clark collision
Fans incensed Marina Mabrey wasn't ejected for Caitlin Clark collision With the Indiana Fever leading the Connecticut Sun 55-45 midway through the third quarter, tempers flared after Caitlin Clark was fouled by Sun guard Jacy Sheldon. As Clark was attempting to shake free from Sheldon at the top of the key, Sheldon reached with her right hand and poked Clark in the eyes. It didn't appear as though Sheldon was attempting to make a play on the basketball. As Clark was gathering herself following the foul, Sheldon was right there in her airspace. Clark responded by shoving Sheldon. Naturally, all of it led to a dustup between the Fever and Sun. Sun forward Tina Charles and Sun guard Marina Mabrey entered the fray. Mabrey came over and collided with Clark, knocking Clark to the floor. After a lengthy review, Sheldon's foul was upgraded to a flagrant 1 foul. Meanwhile, Clark, Charles and Mabrey were each assessed technical fouls. Many fans weren't pleased with the adjudication on the skirmish and the fact that Mabrey wasn't ejected.
