UAE: Dubai-based athlete embarks on extreme 10,000km triathlon in 100 days for cancer ahead of T100 finale

With the Dubai T100 just 100 days away, Dubai-based endurance athlete Ghani Souleymane has launched an unprecedented triathlon mission, a 100-day physical and humanitarian effort covering 10,000 kilometers.

As the region prepares for one of its biggest sporting events this November, Ghani is testing the limits of human endurance to raise funds for children affected by cancer and conflict.
A first-of-its-kind endurance feat
On August 8, Ghani Souleymane began a 100-day triathlon journey, completing one full T100-format triathlon every day. The challenge involves a 2km swim, an 80km bike ride, and an 18km run, daily, culminating in a total of 10,000km by the time he crosses the finish line on November 16, the final day of the Dubai T100.
Ghani's effort will amount to:
200km of swimming
8,000km of cycling
1,800km of running
The final day of his 100-day challenge is scheduled to coincide with the Dubai T100's amateur triathlon, allowing him to complete his last race alongside hundreds of fellow participants, many of whom will be tackling the T100 format for the first time, while Ghani finishes his 100th consecutive triathlon on the same course.
This is more than a test of physical ability, it's a bid for a Guinness World Record for the most consecutive T100 triathlons completed.
It is also a massive fundraising initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable children, particularly those impacted by cancer and conflict.
The athlete behind the challenge
Originally from Togo and now a prominent figure in Dubai's fitness community, Ghani Souleymane is a seasoned endurance athlete, running coach, and member of Adidas Runners Dubai. Known for his previous feats, including 30 ultramarathons in 30 days in 2020 and 30 Ironman triathlons in 30 days in 2023, Ghani's reputation is grounded in pushing the boundaries of endurance for meaningful causes.

He is a Dubai Fitness Challenge Hall of Famer and frequently uses his athletic undertakings to raise awareness and support for health and education-based initiatives. His current challenge continues that mission, focusing on healthcare and sports inclusion.
This 100-day initiative benefits the Al Jalila Foundation, which is constructing the Hamdan Bin Rashid Cancer Charity Hospital, a 250-bed facility dedicated to cancer care.
The project also supports Heroes of Hope, a UAE-based initiative offering inclusive sports programs for people of determination, enabling children and adults with disabilities to engage in regular physical activity and community events.
The daily routine and support system
Ghani's schedule is built for consistency and endurance. Each day starts before sunrise with a 2km swim, usually at Kite Beach, followed by an 80km cycling leg and then an 18km run, all under the intense summer heat of the UAE, where temperatures can reach up to 52°C.
His body requires approximately 7,000 calories daily to maintain performance levels. Meals are prepared by SKitchen, with specialized nutrition plans developed by endurance sports nutritionist Yuri Nemoto.
Equipment and logistical support are provided by various sponsors, including a custom Ventum racing bike and technical gear tailored to the rigors of high-endurance racing. The effort is backed by the Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO), the body behind the T100 Triathlon World Tour, underscoring the professional credibility of the challenge.
Dubai T100 and the bigger picture
The Dubai T100, part of the T100 Triathlon World Tour, is set to take place from November 13–16, 2025, and marks the penultimate stop before the T100 World Championship final in Qatar.
Held across four days, the event will feature:
Corporate Duathlon Relay (Nov 13)
Sprint Triathlon & Elite T100 Pro Races (Nov 15)
The Music Run (Nov 15)
100km Amateur Triathlon (Nov 16)
The Elite T100 Pro Race will follow the same format Ghani is completing daily, 2km swim, 80km bike, and 18km run, and includes top male and female triathletes from around the world. It's regarded as one of the fastest and most dynamic courses globally.
This edition of the Dubai T100 also forms part of the Dubai Fitness Challenge, a citywide movement encouraging residents to stay active with 30 minutes of daily physical activity over 30 days.
The Professional Triathletes Organisation recently secured a major financial boost through a Series C funding round led by SURJ Sports Investment, Sir Michael Moritz, Cordillera, and Verance Capital. This funding aims to grow triathlon's global footprint, develop new formats like The Music Run and Corporate Relay, and increase the sport's reach in the MENA region, where Dubai stands as a central hub.

Penguins fans demand Sidney Crosby remain untouchable as Hoffmann family rises in ownership race

Sidney Crosby (Getty Images) The future of the Pittsburgh Penguins may be entering a defining chapter, as reports of ownership changes continue to swirl. With the Chicago-based Hoffmann family stepping forward as serious buyers, questions about the team's identity, Sidney Crosby's role, and how fans want their franchise to be run are dominating conversations in Pittsburgh. Hoffmann family brings hockey credibility and community ties David Hoffmann, who purchased the ECHL's Florida Everblades in 2019, has become a strong candidate alongside his son Geoffrey, co-CEO of the Hoffmann Family of Companies. Under their guidance, the Everblades captured three straight Kelly Cup titles between 2022 and 2024—a resume that signals they understand how to build a winning culture. Their community-first approach has also resonated, with initiatives such as a hockey camp for children with type 1 diabetes inspired by Geoffrey's son. If their $1.75 billion bid succeeds, it would nearly double the $900 million Fenway Sports Group (FSG) paid in 2021, when they took majority control from Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle. While some fans would love to see Lemieux's return, the price tag alone makes that unlikely. As one supporter put it, 'I'd still prefer to have Lemieux and his group back as majority owners, but at least these guys know hockey. So it should be better than the mess FSG made when they took over.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like What is an insulated prefabricated house and how much does it cost? While they rebranded AT&T SportsNet into SportsNet Pittsburgh and invested in media control, on-ice results have dipped. The Penguins have made just one playoff appearance since the takeover, missing back-to-back postseasons as their win percentage dropped from .628 to .488. To many, the group has felt impersonal. One fan summarized the sentiment bluntly: 'FSG hasn't done anything objectively bad but they do feel like a cold, antiseptic ownership group that seems to have chased away a lot of long-time employees who made the Penguins a good organization.' Chetan Sharma backs Bumrah over playing only three tests in England series

Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah may have drawn criticism for playing only three Tests during the series against England to manage his workload, but former BCCI chairman of selectors Chetan Sharma has backed the bowler, saying players should go by the physios' advice as they are the "better judges". The injury-prone Bumrah played the first, third and fourth Tests in the Anderson-Tendulkar five-match series, skipping two matches with Mohammed Siraj leading the pace-bowling attack. Sharma, himself a former pace bowler, said it was akin to a patient having to follow the doctor's advice. 'If the medical team advises, if the doctor tells me that I have to take antibiotics, then I have to consume them.' "If our physios is telling a player to manage workload, I think we should listen to them because they are the better judges," said Sharma on the sidelines of the country's public service broadcaster Prasar Bharati signing a deal with London-based cricket analytics company CricViz on Monday for the telecast of 104 episodes of "The Great Indian Cricket Show" on Doordarshan. Sharma, who forged a potent partnership with Kapil Dev for nearly half-a-decade and went on to take more than 125 wickets in Tests and ODIs before becoming the chairman of selectors, added that the team's performance in the England Test series gave him confidence that it will win the Asia Cup, which begins in the UAE next month. "I know that whoever is selected will be the best for the country. And the kind of cricket we are playing right now, I'm really proud with the way India played in England. 'And I'm very confident that we are definitely going to win the Asia Cup [to be played in T20 format] because soon after that we are playing the T20 World Cup [in 2026] in India.' "It's a very big thing when you are playing [the World Cup] in you own backyard. If the intent is right, the results will also be good," said Sharma after the event, which also had the likes of Madan Lal, a member of the 1983 World Cup-winning side, and former India players Murali Kartik and Aakash Chopra and Prasar Bharati Chairman Navneet Kumar Sehgal. On whether Test skipper Shubman Gill, who smashed four centuries during the drawn Test series against England recently, should be included in the Asia Cup side to be led by charismatic batter Syuryakumar Yadav, Sharma said, India should select its best possible 15-member squad for the continental showpiece. "Look, that is up to the selectors what they see. My opinion does not matter because I am no longer the chairman [of selectors], so I will only say that the best possible team should be selected. We have such good cricketers that not just the top-15 but even if the top-30 are selected, they are all very good. Really proud of them," he added.
