Lakers vs Knicks: Live updates and highlights
The Los Angeles Lakers, who are on a seven-game winning streak, will start to get tested in the coming days as their schedule gets tougher. That challenging stretch will start on Thursday when they host the New York Knicks, who have a 40-21 record and one of the NBA's best offenses.
The Lakers, who have a 39-21 mark, are looking to remain in second place in the Western Conference. Their defense has carried them over the last several weeks, and that defense helped them achieve a convincing 128-112 victory over the Knicks at Madison Square Garden back on Feb. 1.

Kevin Durant Predicts Suns Will Trade Him to West Team on Rise
Kevin Durant Predicts Suns Will Trade Him to West Team on Rise originally appeared on Athlon Sports. That the Phoenix Suns are looking to reset their roster and eventually their salary cap situation is no secret around the NBA. That trading Kevin Durant this summer is likely the only way to do so is also common knowledge. Advertisement The real question at this point is where Durant is most likely to end up. Several experts don't expect the 36-year-old superstar's trade value to be exceedingly high given his age, his salary (nearly $55 million in 2025) and the fact that there is only one year left on his contract. That last issue is particularly problematic, because Durant is likely to want a multiyear extension from whatever team deals for him, which will be expensive and tie that franchise to the former MVP through his late 30s. And if a new deal doesn't happen, then everything a team surrenders for Durant could merely facilitate a one-year rental should he opt for unrestricted free agency in summer 2026. As such, the needle to thread on a Durant deal is a complicated and interesting one, though there are some teams that make a considerable amount of sense. As far as Durant is concerned, the most likely of them is a Texas-based Western Conference squad with loads of young talent and a bright future ahead that could be realized as early as next season. "I do know somebody that has been with Kevin Durant recently," John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM in Phoenix reported on Friday, June 6. "And Kevin Durant and this person talked about the Spurs." Advertisement San Antonio has drafted the last two Rookie of the Year award winners in Victor Wembanyama, who is already on a generational trajectory based on his development, and Stephon Castle. Wembanyama turned just 21 years old in January and was on track to make an All-NBA roster and win Defensive Player of the Year in his second professional season before a blood clot developed in his shoulder and cut his campaign short. The Spurs also recently traded for former All-Star guard De'Aaron Fox and own the No. 2 pick in the upcoming NBA draft, which is top-heavy with talent. Durant can provide San Antonio with both general shooting and clutch-time playmaking on offense, while adding another 7-foot presence on defense -- all of which should accelerate the championship timeline for a franchise with among the most respected front office groups and coaching staffs in the league. Four-Team NBA Trade Idea Sends Cavaliers' Donovan Mitchell To Mavericks
Four-Team NBA Trade Idea Sends Cavaliers' Donovan Mitchell To Mavericks originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Dallas Mavericks won the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery, so they have the first overall pick in this year's draft. Advertisement The Mavericks, who shockingly traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in February, are widely expected to draft Duke's Cooper Flagg with the first pick. However, if Dallas general manager Nico Harrison wants to acquire a win-now player to pair next to Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving, one NBA insider proposed that the former Nike exec trade for Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell. Kevin Pelton of ESPN proposed the following four-team trade idea between the Mavericks, Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls: Dallas Mavericks get: Guard Donovan Mitchell, 2031 first-round pick (via Lakers), 2028 first-round swap (via Lakers), 2030 first-round swap (via Lakers) Advertisement Cleveland Cavaliers get: 2025 No. 1 pick, guards Jevon Carter and Gabe Vincent, forwards Maxi Kleber and P.J. Washington, center Daniel Gafford Los Angeles Lakers get: Center Jarrett Allen Chicago Bulls get: Forwards Dalton Knecht and Caleb Martin, 2026 second-round pick (via Cavaliers), 2027 second-round pick (via Nuggets), 2028 second-round pick (via Cavaliers) Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan MitchellMandatory Credit: David Richard-Imagn Images Mitchell signed a three-year, $150 million extension with the Cavaliers in 2024. He will make $46.4 million next season. Cleveland had the best record in the East this year but lost to the Indiana Pacers in the conference semifinals in five games. Advertisement A six-time All-Star, Mitchell averaged 24.0 points and 5.0 assists this season in 71 games while shooting 44.3% from the field, 36.8% from 3 and 82.3% from the foul line. If this trade idea happened, the Mavericks would have a "Big 4" of Mitchell, Irving, Davis and Klay Thompson. Mitchell has played for the Utah Jazz and Cavaliers. He has career averages of 24.7 points and 4.7 assists. John Mellencamp Called Out Pat McAfee For Heckling Ben Stiller At NBA Playoff Game, And He Responded
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Credit: ESPN/Farmer's Aid Pat McAfee already had to hear from Ben Stiller when his rousing speech during the NBA Eastern Conference Finals felt insulting to New York celebrities in attendance, and now he has to hear from a big name from Indiana: John Mellencamp. Despite McAfee hyping up the Indiana Pacers fans as they defeated the New York Knicks in Game 4 of the NBA playoffs, the Hoosier-born singer wasn't a fan of the ESPN commentator's behavior. Advertisement The Indiana Pacers didn't have many celebrity supporters in the building during Game 4, so it's a shame that two of their biggest ones may be at odds. In a statement made two days after McAfee's big speech, Mellencamp released the following on X: The Knicks/Pacers games have been very entertaining for anyone who likes basketball or sports. I attended Game 4 in Indianapolis. 'Hoosier Hospitality' …I was embarrassed when somebody, under whose direction I don't know, called out some of the people who had made the trip from New York to support their team — and in turn, support our team. The audience booed these people. I'd say that was not Hoosier Hospitality. One could only say it's poor, poor sportsmanship. I was not proud to be a Hoosier, and I've lived here my entire life. On behalf of most Hoosiers, I would like to apologize for our poor behavior. I'm sure the Pacers had nothing to do with this smackdown. I'm not sure if I'm reading into it too deeply, but I have to think John Mellencamp using the term "smackdown" had to be a rib at Pat McAfee being a WWE commentator. No doubt, McAfee's wrestling experience led him to give what was reportedly an impromptu speech that was not rehearsed ahead of delivery. It's worth noting that as someone living in Indiana, I've seen many residents collectively confused by the singer's issue with what seemed like a mostly light-hearted diss to Timothée Chalamet and others. Pat McAfee rarely is quiet when it comes to criticism, so it was a given he wasn't going to ignore John Mellencamp's veiled criticism even though it didn't mention him by name. While the ESPN commentator has been known to drop a cryptic message on social media, he wasn't afraid to let people on X know who the singer was talking about in this scathing message: I am 'somebody' Back when there was some talk going back and forth between Pat McAfee and Ben Stiller, I almost suspected it was a subtle build to some future upcoming WWE event we'd see later this year with a Peacock subscription. Now with John Mellencamp in the mix, I'm assuming there were actual hurt feelings about McAfee calling out celebrities at the event. Advertisement More On The NBA Charles Barkley speaks on Inside the NBA Months After Charles Barkley Questioned Inside The NBA's Future On ESPN, The Network's President Weighed In It's just another chapter in the storied rivalry between the Indiana Pacers and the New York Knicks. Both teams have met many times over the years in the playoffs, with plenty of storylines between players and celebrities alike. It's rare two people supporting the same team speak out against each other, though, which is what makes it so bizarre. As the NBA playoffs continue on, be sure to check out the 2025 TV schedule to see what else is coming to television this summer. I know there are some summer shows I can't wait to get into once basketball is over, especially on the streaming side. Starting Five is coming from Netflix and with Tyrese Haliburton from the Pacers on the list of people covered, it should be a great season if they make the NBA finals.
