Baseball: Yamamoto extends hot streak for Dodgers in win against Rays
Yamamoto (10-7) continued his recent hot streak in sweltering conditions at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, throwing 62 of his 88 pitches for strikes while scattering five hits without a walk.
In his past seven starts, the Japanese right-hander has posted a 1.93 ERA with 44 strikeouts against nine walks, according to MLB.com.
"Because of the temperature and humidity, I concentrated more than usual when pitching," Yamamoto said. "I've been feeling good while throwing. I want to recover well and prepare for the next game."
Shohei Ohtani batted 2-for-3 in the leadoff spot and came home on Freddie Freeman's seventh-inning single for a 2-0 lead after getting into scoring position with a stolen base. The two-way superstar also drew two walks.
At Wrigley Field, Seiya Suzuki drove in the opening run for the Chicago Cubs in a 5-3 win against the Baltimore Orioles.
Suzuki, who also scored a run in his 2-for-4 outing, snapped a nine-game streak without an RBI.
