69-year-old heroin dealer from Lanka in NCB net after 13 yrs
Chennai: Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested a Sri Lankan national who is part of an international drug cartel, 13 years after registering a case against him. The accused, Mohamed Munauwar, 69, was nabbed by immigration officials when he landed at Chennai airport from Sri Lanka on Sunday, as an NCB lookout notice had been pending against him. Munauwar is said to have come to the city to meet his daughter. In 2012, the NCB arrested a couple—V Ravikumar and his wife R Malini—at Koyambedu bus terminus after they were found in possession of 3.3kg of heroin. The probe revealed Munauwar engaged them to transport the drugs from Chennai to Madurai by road for a sum of 50,000. The couple were arrested under the NDPS Act, and in 2018, the special court for NDPS cases convicted them. Ravikumar was sentenced to 16 years of rigorous imprisonment, while Malini got 10 years. They were also fined 3 lakh.
