Four Nagai fishermen attacked by Sri Lankan gang
The injured fishermen, identified as M Senthil (47), D Mohan (33), M Arockia Dass (28) and Michael George (26) -- all from Seruthur – were admitted to the Nagapattinam Government Medical College Hospital.
According to sources, the four ventured into sea in a fibre boat on Wednesday. Early on Thursday, when the group was about 20 nautical miles east off Kodiyakarai coast, the Sri Lankan nationals intercepted them and attacked them. They then decamped with the group's fishing nets weighing about 500 kg,
GPS equipment, a mobile phone and a 12V battery, sources said.
While Senthil sustained an injury to the forehead, others reported pain from the attack without open wounds. All the four were admitted to the Nagapattinam Government Medical College Hospital.

69-year-old heroin dealer from Lanka in NCB net after 13 yrs
Chennai: Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested a Sri Lankan national who is part of an international drug cartel, 13 years after registering a case against him. The accused, Mohamed Munauwar, 69, was nabbed by immigration officials when he landed at Chennai airport from Sri Lanka on Sunday, as an NCB lookout notice had been pending against him. Munauwar is said to have come to the city to meet his daughter. In 2012, the NCB arrested a couple—V Ravikumar and his wife R Malini—at Koyambedu bus terminus after they were found in possession of 3.3kg of heroin. The probe revealed Munauwar engaged them to transport the drugs from Chennai to Madurai by road for a sum of 50,000. The couple were arrested under the NDPS Act, and in 2018, the special court for NDPS cases convicted them. Ravikumar was sentenced to 16 years of rigorous imprisonment, while Malini got 10 years. They were also fined 3 lakh. When he landed at Chennai airport, immigration officials flagged his passport and handed him over to the NCB. He was remanded in judicial custody on Monday. Earlier, the NCB had trouble tracing him since his previous passport had expired. The officials managed to get his new passport details and issued a new lookout notice, leading to his arrest. Sri Lankan Tamil arrives in Dhanushkodi illegally via boat
A Sri Lankan Tamil, who arrived in Dhanushkodi here on Tuesday seeking refuge, was housed in the Mandapam camp. Vidhurshiya, 25, a resident of the Andankulam area of Mannar district in Sri Lanka, was living in the Palani of Dindigul district with her family as a Sri Lankan refugee. In April of this year, she returned to Sri Lanka by flight. After arriving in Sri Lanka, she was unable to make a living. To be with her family again, she illegally boarded a fiberglass boat from the Mannar coast at 1 a.m. on Monday night and landed on the Arichalmunai coast of Dhanushkodi at 3 a.m. Upon receiving information, marine police took Vidhurshiya from Dhanushkodi to the Mandapam Marine Police Station for an inquiry and she was later taken to the Mandapam refugee camp. Furthermore, following the economic crisis in Sri Lanka, the number of refugees from Sri Lanka who have come to Tamil Nadu since March 2022 has risen to 321.

Over 120,000 arrested in SL's nationwide drug crackdown
World Colombo, Aug 12 (UNI) Over 120,000 Sri Lankans have been arrested for various drug-related offenses between Jan. 1 and Aug. 11, the Ministry of Public Security said in a statement. Of them, 39,627 were arrested for the possession of heroin and related offenses, 47,615 for the possession of crystal methamphetamine (ICE), and 42,620 for cannabis-related offenses, the ministry said on Monday late night. Law enforcement officers also seized 934.55 kilos of heroin, 1,402.9 kilos of ICE, and 11,620 kilos of cannabis, the statement said. The ministry stated that it will continue its operations, deploying the Sri Lankan police and the tri-forces, to eradicate the drug menace, suppress organized crime, and reduce accidents across the country.
