Dak Prescott makes clear what his Cowboys priority is: ‘Be damned if it's just for my legacy'

Dak Prescott wants a championship ring, no matter the cost. Prescott told reporters on Thursday that it is his primary goal, regardless of the legacy he leaves in the NFL. 'Yeah, I want to win a championship,' Prescott said. 'The legacy, the things, whatever comes after I finish playing will take care of itself. I want to win a championship. Be damned if it's just for my legacy, or if it's for this team, for my personal being, for my sanity. Yeah, the legacy will take care of itself. I have to stay where my feet are.' Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is entering his 10th season with the Cowboys. AP Prescott is getting ready for his 10th NFL season, and only Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman has had a longer tenure in Dallas while starting under center. While Prescott, 31, has led the Cowboys to five playoff appearances, those trips have always ended before the team reached the NFC championship. Prescott has recently faced some tough injury luck, missing games in four of the last five seasons due to different setbacks. Last season, he missed nine games due to surgery on his hamstring. Now, as the 2025 season is approaching, Prescott seems to be feeling good about things in Dallas, with whom he signed a four-year, $240 million extension before last season, which has already been restructured. 'These OTAs, just the way that I've been seeing minicamp, the communication with [coach Brian Schottenheimer], with the quarterbacks or the quarterback room, just a lot of good things,' Prescott said. 'A lot of really good things that have me in a great place. I'm healthy. Excited as hell.' First-year head coach for the Dallas Cowboys Brian Schottenheimer AP With a new head coach in Schottenheimer, maybe they can complete Prescott's goal and bring a Lombardi Trophy back to the Lone Star State.

Micah Parsons says Cowboys not signing him to extension already will 'cost them more' eventually

Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons attended the team's mandatory minicamp this week despite not coming to agreement on a new contract after his current deal expires after this season. (However, he skipped voluntary OTAs in the spring.) In the edge rusher's view, team owner Jerry Jones would have already saved money had he signed Parsons to an extension by now. Advertisement "It's going to cost them more," Parsons told longtime reporter Clarence Hill Jr. of DLLS. Parsons, 26, is in a race with fellow pass rushers Trey Hendrickson and T.J. Watt to become the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL with their new deal. Both of those players didn't report to mandatory minicamps amid their respective contract disputes. The four-time Pro Bowler said that he and Jones made a handshake deal in March, according to Hill (via Pro Football Talk). But the Cowboys owner never called Parsons' agent to work out the final details of a contract. Parsons claims that he's seen what Watt is asking for from the Pittsburgh Steelers, which has not been reported. But whatever Watt is seeking is more than what Parsons and Jones had agreed to, according to the four-year veteran. And if Watt gets the contract he wants, Parsons will almost certainly ask for more, which is what he meant by his remarks to Hill. Advertisement Myles Garrett currently holds the belt for the league's highest-paid pass rusher after agreeing to a four-year extension with the Cleveland Browns in early March that pays him an average annual salary of $40 million. However, Ja'Marr Chase's new deal with the Cincinnati Bengals, signed less than a week later, edged him out for the top spot at $40.25 million per season. Parsons is set to be paid $24 million this season after the Cowboys picked up his fifth-year option. He hopes to get a deal finalized before training camp begins on July 21. If no deal is done, he says he will report but not practice. During his NFL career, Parsons has averaged 14 sacks per season, in addition to 69 tackles, two forced fumbles and 17 tackles for loss. He won Defensive Rookie of the Year honors and was named first-team All-Pro in his first two seasons. Last year, Parsons was named second-team All-Pro after notching 12 sacks.

Cowboys 'Girl Dad' Dak Prescott Shares Emotional Father's Day Reflections

Cowboys 'Girl Dad' Dak Prescott Shares Emotional Father's Day Reflections originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Dak Prescott opened up about becoming a father for the second time following the Dallas Cowboys' final minicamp session Thursday — and his words hit home. "I'm blessed. I'm blessed to have the opportunity to raise two girls alongside my fiancée, to have a beautiful family, a healthy family," Prescott said from inside The Star. "For me, it's just about being grateful and not taking a moment for granted when I'm with them." He continued, speaking not just as a quarterback, but as a man who's endured loss, grief, and adversity. 'I understand the love my mom had for me in a different way now that I have kids,'' he said. "When you've had some of the adversity I've had, you're so thankful — for everything. The good, the bad, anything in between … it just makes me even more focused on the small moments.' Dak's mother Peggy died from colon cancer in 2013. His brother Jace, died by suicide earlier in 2020. And so yes ... the small moments matter. Dak and Sarah Jane Ramos are now the parents of two baby girls, Margaret Jane "MJ'' Rose and their newborn, Aurora Rayne. ... and the "girl dad'' can't stop grinning when he talks of them. As a fellow father of two, I can relate deeply. Kids change your perspective in ways no career milestone ever could. You start seeing life through their eyes — where everything feels new again. Ordinary moments become joy-filled. Small things become big. And when you live that way, it sharpens your focus. You begin doing things not just for yourself, but for something far more important — your children. You want to be present. You want to be excellent. You want to maximize every moment, because you realize how fast they go. That goes for Father's Day this weekend. It goes for every day. Dak's message wasn't just emotionally personal; it was powerful. ... Because as any parent who's truly locked in knows: fatherhood doesn't distract you from your purpose. It clarifies it.
