In an interview with ANI, Srinivas provided an in-depth overview of the project that also lays thrust on building resilient ecology and infrastructure.
'The vision is slum-free Mumbai. That is the broader vision. And through that, to become slum-free Maharashtra. And it's a project of importance and central to the redevelopment of Mumbai. So it is also a step towards slum-free India. That is the vision,' he said.
'The motto is housing for all. Nobody should be left out in the process as far as housing is concerned. It is the most inclusive Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) project ever undertaken in India,' he added.
The Dharavi Redevelopment Project is a major urban renewal initiative for country's financial capital. The project aims to transform Dharavi area, Asia's largest slum, into a modern, integrated township.
Srinivas emphasised the government's unwavering commitment to transforming one of Asia's largest informal settlements into a sustainable and inclusive urban space. He added that the DRP is as much about preserving livelihoods as it is about providing shelter.
'The most important part of this project is number one, housing for all, which we are giving. Number two, ensure that the livelihoods are protected. It is more of a livelihoods issue. And I call this project a movement, because such a project has never ever taken place in our redevelopment history or urban history anywhere in India,' Srinivas said.
The DRP is being implemented through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. The project is a joint venture between the Adani Group and the Government of Maharashtra.
All eligible residential tenements in Dharavi, are slated to get flats with independent kitchens and toilets measuring a minimum 350 square feet (sq ft), which is 17 per cent more and the highest among slum redevelopment projects in Mumbai.
The ambitious Dharavi Redevelopment Project, received approval from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis last month.
The proposed master plan is an attempt to build on the existing characteristics of Dharavi and create a world-class district for Dharavikars and reimagine a new heart for Mumbai.
The Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP) is a unique opportunity to transform the lives and 'live-work' conditions of Dharavikars, aiming for a higher quality of life with great infrastructure and public amenities.
As per the Dharavi Master Plan, it is being built on the foundation of three guiding principles: driving economic change through redevelopment, building resilient ecology and infrastructure, and fostering an equitable Dharavi.
It will have an interconnected network of green and public spaces, ranging from large city parks to smaller community playgrounds, ensuring every resident can access vibrant, walkable open areas.
This network shall strengthen ecological resilience and enhance Dharavi's quality of life every day.
A large active public open space is being planned in the centre of Dharavi, which will not only serve the recreation needs of the residents but also of Mumbai city at large. (ANI)

PM inaugurates ₹2,000 crore highway projects for Haryana
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated two major national highway projects worth ₹2,000 crore which will directly benefit Haryana. These are construction of two new four-lane connectivity roads to Sonepat and Bahadurgarh under the Urban Extension Road-2 project. The chief minister said that Haryana, being the industrial and agricultural hub of northern India, would be the biggest beneficiary of these projects. 'These key projects will not only boost exports, imports and investments by ensuring direct connectivity from Kundli, Sonepat, Bahadurgarh, Gurugram and Manesar to Delhi airport, but will also provide relief from traffic congestion in the region,' Saini said. Saini said that the Centre is creating an extensive network of roadways, railways and airways connectivity. Listing out the projects which will be to Haryana's advantage, Saini named the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, Rail Coach Repair Factory, Kundli-Manesar-Palwal and Kundli-Ghaziabad-Palwal Expressways, Gurugram-Sikanderpur and Faridabad-Ballabhgarh Metro Links, the country's first elevated railway track in Rohtak, the Rohtak-Meham-Hansi railway line, the National Cancer Institute at AIIMS Jhajjar, and AIIMS in Rewari. He said that Haryana recently received the gift of a metro corridor from Rithala to Kundli. The chief minister also said that these initiatives will give a new impetus to investment, employment and industrial development in the state, further strengthening Haryana's contribution to the national economy.

Treated like strangers: Sunjay Kapur's sister alleges family sidelined, disrespected
Mandhira Kapur Smith, sister of the late Sona Comstar Chairperson Sunjay Kapur, has voiced concern over how her family is being treated by the automotive company founded by their late father, especially her 80-year-old mother Rani Kapur. In an interview with news agency ANI, Mandhira claimed the family has been treated like strangers.'Within days, everything has been taken away from the family,' she said. She also said the names of family members were not included in obituaries and public also said her mother had been instrumental in supporting her father Surinder Kapur as he grew the business from its origins in the jewellery trade into a prominent player in the automotive sector. Despite her early involvement, Rani Kapur has now been excluded from the company, Mandhira claimed. 'There should have been some respect given to my mother who is one of the founders with my father. Sona Comstar was built because of my father,' she said. She added that her mother should have been given a non-executive board dispute between the Kapur family and Sona Comstar escalated, the company issued a cease-and-desist notice to Rani Kapur, mother of Sunjay and Mandhira her letter to the board, Rani Kapur claimed that she is the sole beneficiary of Surinder Kapur's estate and the majority shareholder of the Sona Group, including Sona Kapur also alleged that she was pressured into signing documents backing the appointment of her daughter-in-law, Priya Sachdev Kapur, as a non-executive director on the company's Comstar responded by saying that Rani Kapur has not had any role in the company since 2019, either directly or Kapur's sister also criticised the company for asking her mother to apologise publicly for requesting a delay to a board meeting after Sunjay Kapur's death.'She has been thrown to the curb. They have not cared about her or her feelings or that she stood by my father while he built the company,' Mandhira added that for her mother, Sona is like another child and asking for a delay in the board meeting was a reasonable request. 'She's not a stranger,' Mandhira added that the issue is not just about money or business. 'People who have not built it will only see money, people who have built it, which is us, see much more than that. We see (this as) a legacy, we see dad's dreams,' she also spoke about her mother's ongoing questions regarding Sunjay Kapur's sudden death. 'He was fit. Who is giving her answers? My mum's asking me every day, how did this happen?' she Kapur who headed the Rs 30,000 crore mobility tech company died on June 12 while playing polo in London.
