100th annual Dakota Relays conclude at Howard Wood
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The 100th annual Howard Wood Dakota Relays finished with a full day of action Saturday.
There were a dozen new South Dakota state records set on the day across the track and field competitions.
The day also included the Special Olympics 100 meter dashes. Dannica Sheets of Aberdeen Central and Pierre's Kaden Cumbow claimed first in those races.

Law enforcement runs from Fischer to Champaign for Special Olympics
CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — It was all smiles across Champaign County on Friday as law enforcement participated in an annual tradition — the Law Enforcement Torch Run benefiting Special Olympics. The Torch Run is the largest public awareness and fundraising event for Special Olympics Illinois. In Champaign County, officers started running at 5:30 in the morning in Fischer. Urbana police officer recalls near-death experience while on the job The route took them through Rantoul, Thomasboro, Urbana and Champaign and ended at the Olympic Monument at Parkland College in the early afternoon. That's a distance of 17 miles. Gymnast Summer Nagele said the Special Olympics program creates fun opportunities for athletes all over the world and she was among the many who were helped by it. 'I really like Special Olympics, and it has helped me learn a whole lot of different sports and see which ones I like and which ones I don't like,' Nagele said. Torch runs similar to Friday's happened all over Illinois and will continue into next week, when the Illinois Special Olympics Summer Games start in Bloomington. Flashback Friday: Racing on the Big Sioux
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) —It's beginning to feel like Summer around much of KELOLAND this week with our temperatures hitting the eighties almost daily. The heat will have many families hitting the water this weekend in a number of ways. In this week's Flashback Friday, Bobbi Lower takes us back to 1982 for some friendly competition between boaters on the Big Sioux River. The river proved to be a bit easier for the canoeist than those on rafts. Even the best of the bunch had to get off and push part of the way. 'Yeah there was right at the beginning and every place after that we were kind of lucky ours went over the top so we could just paddle along.' While the participants in some regattas trained for months before the race, most of the big Sioux contestants were lucky if they got together the day before. 'Spent probably four and a half minutes at the other end and that was it.''A lot of Practice huh?''We did it last year, we thought we were still in shape.''Were ya?''Pretty fair, pretty fair.' Although the race seems simple enough its hard work.'Well yeah it looks easier on the side of the bank, from their viewpoint I'm sure it is.''What's so hard about it?''Well mostly pace yourself and you usually pace yourself for about half a mile and it ends up to be three.' West Lyon shuts out Central Lyon in rivalry game
ROCK RAPIDS, IOWA (KELO) — The fifth-ranked West Lyon baseball team blanked rival Central Lyon 7-0 on the road Thursday evening. The Wildcats struck early with two runs in the first inning on a wild pitch and an RBI single by Bryson Childress. That score held until the fifth inning when West Lyon added on.
