Sana Yousaf, 17, was killed in her home by a man who had been 'repeatedly rejected' by the TikTok star, police have said, with a 22 year old man arrested.
A teenage girl was tragically shot dead by a man who had been relentlessly pursuing her online, according to police.
Sana Yousaf, 17, was brutally murdered in her own home following "repeated rejections" of a man who had tried to "reach out to her time and again". A 22 year old suspect was arrested on suspicion of murder after he was seen loitering outside Sana's home for hours on Monday night.
Police have said that the teenager, who was a TikTok sensation, fell victim to a "gruesome and cold-blooded murder" in Islamabad, Pakistan, following the rejections, which had been ongoing for some time.
During a press briefing on Tuesday, Islamabad police chief Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi stated: "It was a gruesome and cold-blooded murder... It was a case of repeated rejections. The boy was trying to reach out to her time and again."
CBS News reports that the arrest was made 20 hours after the death as police traced the suspect seen loitering outside the house to another address in Islamabad, reports the Mirror.
Sana had amassed more than one million TikTok followers, according to Mirror US. She used the platform to share comedy clips, lip-sync performances, skincare tips, and to promote beauty products.
Her final post on both Instagram and TikTok, dated Monday June 2, captured her birthday celebrations in a montage featuring cake-cutting, time with friends, the venue, and the food enjoyed on her special day.
Tributes have flooded in on social media following the heartbreaking death of 17 year old Sana, leaving her followers and fellow online users in a state of shock.
Actress and social media influencer Waliya Najib posted an emotional message on Instagram: "This doesn't feel real. You were glowing, just being 17. I'm so sorry this world didn't protect you. Rest in peace, sweetheart [broken-heart emoji]."
Another grieving fan expressed their sadness, saying: "This news shook me, you deserved the world Sana. Rest in peace."
On TikTok, Sana's final post has been inundated with demands for "justice" following her tragic passing.
Human Rights Watch reports that violence against women and girls remains a widespread issue in Pakistan, with nearly 1,000 victims of "honor killings" every year, according to activists.
In 2018, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan denounced patriarchal norms, stating: "Patriarchy and the practices it gives rise to, in terms of seeing women's bodies and minds as property or as easy targets of violence, exploitation and abuse, has no place in any society that wishes to call itself civilised."

It's when criminals threaten to share sexual pictures, videos, or information about you unless you pay money or do something else you don't want to. Anyone can be a victim of sextortion. However, young people aged between 15 to 17, and adults aged under 30, are often most at risk. Criminals often target people through dating apps, social media, webcams, or pornography sites. They may use a fake identity to befriend you online. If a person you've just met online chats to you in a sexual way, or asks for sexual images, it might be an attempt at sextortion. You should be wary if someone you've met online: is trying to start a relationship with you very quickly (they may even send you a sexual image first) chats to you in a sexual way, or asks for sexual images, soon after you've met them. has sent friend requests to lots of people, not just you repeatedly asks you to do sexual things that you're not comfortable with tells you they've hacked your account or have access to your contacts Sextortion attempts can happen very quickly, or they can happen over a long time. You should never share sexual images or information about yourself if you are not comfortable. You can still be a victim of sextortion if you haven't shared sexual images or information. Criminals may have hacked one of your accounts, or created edited or fake images or videos, like deepfakes, of you that appear real. Even if blackmail isn't involved, sharing or threatening to share intimate photos or videos of you without your permission is illegal. This is called 'revenge porn' or intimate image abuse. To cope with her loss, Jennifer has thrown herself into advocating against this crime and helping other families through its effects. She says, 'At least once a week, I have parents reaching out to me for help because their children are going through this. In the last four months, I've spoken on the phone to four families who've also lost their children because of it Jennifer Buta 'I help them to speak to police and advise them how to support their kids.
