‘Indira Gandhi was made to wait by Nixon for an hour': BJP MP Dubey compares Indira's 1971 US visit with Modi's diplomacy, accuses Congress of falling for ‘Pakistan's trap'

NEW DELHI:
BJP MP
Nishikant Dubey on Friday launched a sharp attack on the
Congress party
's foreign policy legacy, using a mix of historical anecdotes and recent controversies to question the credibility of the Nehru-Gandhi leadership in global diplomacy.
In a post on X, Dubey recalled an incident from 1971, claiming former Prime Minister
Indira Gandhi
was kept waiting for an hour by US President Richard Nixon during her visit to Washington.
'Iron Lady Indira Ji, Jairam Ramesh Ji, for your information, in 1971 when Indira Gandhi Ji reached Washington to meet the US President Nixon, President Nixon made her sit in his waiting room for 1 hour,' he wrote.
He urged the Congress to reflect on this and compare it with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's global stature today.
'Think about the state of the Nehru Gandhi family's policy?'
Dubey's comments came days after he criticised Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and her party for allegedly falling for a misinformation campaign involving Pakistan's army chief general Asim Munir.
'The opposition, especially the Congress, has stopped reading and writing. For the last 2-3 days, the entire Congress party kept saying that Pakistan's army chief general Asim Munir is going to the US.

This was a trap by Pakistan,' Dubey told ANI.
'People across the country turned the opposition to Modi into opposition to the country. Today, it is known that the White House or the US military never called Asim Munir. What is the difference between the Pakistan Muslim League and Jairam Ramesh?'
Taking a deeper historical swipe, Dubey cited the 1985 Kanishka bombing by Khalistani extremists, alleging Canada's inaction at the time was symptomatic of how Indira Gandhi's diplomatic efforts were often ignored.
'When the Kanishka bomb blast happened in 1985, Canada began its investigation only in 2006. Former Canadian PM Pierre Trudeau, who was in power from 1968 to 1984, received seven letters from Indira Gandhi over 16 years, asking him to act against Khalistani terrorists,' Dubey said.
'He never responded. He never listened. And now Congress wants to teach us foreign policy?'
The Congress party has not yet responded to Dubey's latest statements.

Assam CM claims thousands of foreign social media accounts favour state Congress

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday alleged that more than 5,000 social media accounts, run mostly by Islamic countries, are favouring the Congress party's state unit. Addressing a press conference, Himanra Sarma claimed that accounts from 47 countries, largely from Pakistan and Bangladesh, have been focusing on the activities of a particular Assam Congress leader and the unit's actions over the past month. "It is surprising that they do not comment on or like posts by Rahul Gandhi or even the Indian National Congress. They are only focused on a particular leader and the Assam Congress," the Assam CM was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. While Sarma did not name the particular leader of the Congress's state unit, it appeared that he was referring to Gaurav Gogoi. Gogoi was appointed as the president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee in the last week of May. "We are not concerned with the change in the party's leadership in the state, but this development has taken place in the last month and there must be some link," the CM said. "For the first time, there is so much foreign involvement in Assam politics in the run-up to the 2026 assembly elections," he added. These social media handles, other than Assam, also reportedly post content related to Islamic fundamentalists, including those of pro-Palestine, Iran, and Bangladesh's chief advisor Mohammad Yunus. Further, Sarma said that the central government has been informed of the issue which, he said, is of "national security". Noting that some of the 5,000 accounts are being run with their location marked as Guwahati, the Assam CM said, "We are not ruling out that some of the accounts may be from within the state." "The locations are disclosed in the accounts, and we conducted a forensic audit of those who had joined in the last month," Sarma added. He said the forensic audit found that 700 accounts are from Bangladesh, 350 from Pakistan, 246 from Saudi Arabia, 86 from Kuwait, and 35 from Afghanistan. He raised an alarm, citing concerns that over 5,000 social media accounts were opened in a month, "and they are commenting and liking posts related to Assam". The Assam CM claimed that there is also information that some people from outside have rented accommodations in two localities in Guwahati, and have connected with YouTubers and social media influencers for the same. "Surveillance is being kept on them. Fundamentalist elements have entered Assam and are active in the run-up to the elections," Sarma added. Further, the CM alleged that these social media accounts have also made inroads into some digital media organisations in the state. Sarma claimed that there also existed plans for setting up a call centre in Kolkata to carry out these activities. The Assam CM said it is also possible that these social media account holders are connected through WhatsApp and other messaging apps, as they are all from different countries and time zones. Further, Sarma claimed that Muslims from Assam, indigenous or migrants, will not post any such content. In the next stage, Sarma asserted that these social media accounts may even take shadow Hindu names like "many do to marry Hindu women". The Assam chief minister noted that Assam and the North East have always been on the international fundamentalist radar, and hardcores have always had the "unfinished agenda" of severing the 'chicken neck' to make the state a part of Bangladesh. "We are in a very critical situation and the entire matter is being looked into from the national security angle", Sarma added.

'Declined Trump's invite to US to coming to land of Lord Jagannath,' says PM Modi; flags off Boudh rail link ahead of Rath Yatra

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said he declined a dinner invitation from US President Donald Trump during his visit to Canada for the G7 summit, in order to attend a public programme in Odisha and to visit the 'land of Mahaprabhu. ' 'Just two days ago, I was in Canada for the G7 summit and the US President Trump called me,' PM Modi said. 'He said, since you have come to Canada, go via Washington, we will have dinner together and talk. He extended the invitation with great insistence. I told the US President, thank you for the invitation. It is very important for me to go to the land of Mahaprabhu and hence I politely declined his invitation. Your love and devotion to Mahaprabhu brought me to this land. ' — ANI (@ANI) The Prime Minister's remarks came during a public address in Bhubaneswar to mark the first anniversary of the BJP government in Odisha. Hailing the occasion, PM Modi said, 'This anniversary is not just of the government; it marks the establishment of good governance. This one year has been dedicated to public service and public trust.' He congratulated chief minister Mohan Majhi and his team. During the address, PM Modi also praised the decision by the Odisha government to open all four doors of the Sri Jagannath Temple and give access to the Ratna Bhandar, the temple treasury. 'This is not a matter of political victory or defeat. It has been done to respect the faith of crores of devotees,' he said, adding that the issues around the temple had been resolved with divine blessings. The Prime Minister drew comparisons with other BJP-ruled states, such as Assam and Tripura, which he said were once troubled by violence and underdevelopment but are now progressing steadily. 'Assam and Tripura show how the people's mandate for change can bring peace and growth,' he said. PM Modi also flagged off new train services to Boudh district, giving the area its first-ever railway connectivity. The move, he said, was part of the Centre's broader push to boost infrastructure in previously neglected regions. His visit comes just ahead of the annual Rath Yatra in Puri, a key religious event for devotees of Lord Jagannath. PM Modi linked the recent policy decisions in the state with the upcoming yatra and underlined the BJP's continued commitment to both governance and faith-based traditions.

A strike on Tehran? The alarming fallout America might face if Trump pulls the trigger

US president Donald Trump is reportedly on the verge of making one of the largest decisions of his political career, whether or not to join Israel in carrying out a military strike on Iran, as per a report. Donald Trump on the Edge of a Defining Decision When talking to reporters on Wednesday at the White House, Trump expressed that he had "ideas" regarding what he wanted to do but had not made his mind up, as per The Hill. The US president said, he likes 'to make a final decision one second before it's due," quoted The Hill. Strike Plans Signed, But Not Yet Ordered The Wall Street Journal reported later that day that the previous day, Trump had told senior aides he had signed off on plans to attack Iran but had not ordered those plans be put fully into motion until he saw whether Iran would abandon its nuclear program, reported The Hill. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Simple Morning Habit for a Flatter Belly After 50! Destroying the facility would mostly be possible with the use of enormous 30,000-pound bunker buster bombs, which only the US possesses or has a plane capable of transporting them, the B-2 bomber, reported The Hill. Live Events MAGA Movement Divided on War Talk But Trump's decision to join Israel's ongoing war with Iran has led to a split within his movement of Make America Great Again (MAGA). Though many MAGA voices in Trump's party have shown support for America backing its Middle East ally, with figures like Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas), there are also Trump allies who are highly sceptical of such a potential decision, as per the report. The divide between his supporters was seen during a long and contentious interview between Cruz and Tucker Carlson on this topic, which went viral on Wednesday, reported The Hill. Carlson might be the most influential MAGA figure warning against the United States getting involved in another major foreign conflict after years of being mired in Iraq and Afghanistan, reported The Hill. FAQs Is the US about to go to war with Iran? Not yet, Trump has approved strike plans but is waiting to see if Iran will back down on its nuclear program before acting. What's Trump's position right now? He hasn't decided yet. He says he likes making decisions 'at the last second,' but he's seriously considering it.
