Veterinarian turns marriage reception into a petting zoo

WHAT is a wedding without a feast, well according to Malaysian expectations? Despite living in a melting pot of culture, we can all agree that Malaysians love their feasts, the bigger the better.
But sometimes, people decide to do things differently, and the result is jaw-dropping. Recently, a wedding reception grabbed quite the attention for its very unique theme.
Apparently, the bride was a veterinarian and the couple just wouldn't do things the conventional way.
Lain dari yang lain ni wedding..🤩🤣
dah macam zoo pulak. pic.twitter.com/Q326K0qSgF

The attendees found themselves in a zoo, complete with a massive python slithering about, lesser-sized snakes for necklace, frogs and exotic birds as exhibits.
This is one wedding invitation you do not want to miss. Unsurprisingly, netizens were wowed by the very unique theme.
Prompted by the video, netizen @naz_frhn12 perhaps jokingly said he wanted to marry a dentist.
'So when I get married, do I need to make an air conditioning expo,' said @Bdk_DenGgi whose profession must be linked to the device.
Another netizen who saw the video added that it reminded her of the celebrity Ning Baizura's wedding where there was a goat pen right in the middle of the wedding hall.
However, several netizens noted the presence of the snake at the wedding which was a cause for fear.
'I will just eat in the car. I am afraid of snakes,' said @nasrulofkoz while another said he would just greet the bride and groom.
Looking at the video, one can only wonder if they served exotic meat for food too. Hilariously, @runrickyrunrun even compared the wedding to the movie Jumanji.
For those not in the know, Jumanji is a fantasy adventure film centred around a mysterious and magical board game that brings its jungle-themed hazards to life in the real world.
When players roll the dice, they must survive wild animals, natural disasters, and other dangers until the game is completed.
Regardless, we can be certain there is nothing life-threatening about this very interesting wedding.
On another note, we do hope the animals on exhibit get fed well too, unlike the guests. As for the huge python, we are a little cautious to issue the same statement. —June 11, 2025

Southeast Asian masterpieces up for auction in Bangsar this Saturday

KUALA LUMPUR: A collection of significant works by some of Southeast Asia's most prominent modern and contemporary artists will go under the hammer this Saturday at KL Lifestyle Art Space (Klas), Bangsar. In a statement, Klas said the auction, scheduled for June 14 at 1pm, will feature a curated selection of paintings that trace the artistic evolution of the region, from figurative modernism to abstraction and conceptual forms. Among the highlights is Green Landscape II (2019) by renowned Malaysian artist Abdul Latiff Mohidin, with an estimated price range of RM600,000 to RM900,000. The piece, characterised by lush greens and earth tones, is from the artist's later period and reflects his signature blend of landscape and spiritual abstraction. It was previously exhibited at Latiff Mohidin: Modern Figurations and the Landscape Within in 2021. Also featured is Aqueous Waves (1984) by Singaporean modernist Anthony Poon, known for his optical and geometric compositions. This particular work, valued between RM350,000 and RM450,000, was formerly part of Duke University's permanent art collection. A similar piece is held by Singapore's National Heritage Board. The auction also includes Nightwalkers II (2005) from Yusof Ghani's Segerak series (RM60,000 – RM110,000), known for its expressive portrayal of movement and identity, and Memories V by Khalil Ibrahim (RM75,000 – RM150,000), a batik work reflecting the tranquil rhythm of Malaysia's East Coast. Other noteworthy pieces include Fishes on the Rack (1962) by Long Thien Shih, a reflection of rural life through the lens of social realism, and Arca Merah (2024) by Awang Damit Ahmad, regarded as a continuation of his celebrated Essence of Culture (EOC) series. The auction offers art collectors a rare opportunity to acquire museum-quality works seldom seen on the market, many of which represent pivotal moments in the artists' careers.

Zhang Yaodong expresses gratitude for support over being a stallholder in SG

Zhang Yaodong formally introduced his stall in his first-ever TikTok, after he was spotted manning the stall in early June. Photos: Zhang Yaodong/TikTok, Xiaohongshu More than a week after Zhang Yaodong was spotted manning a steamed food stall in the Tampines industrial area, the Singapore-based Malaysian actor took to TikTok on June 11 to express his gratitude to his friends and supporters. The 47-year-old filmed it within the vicinity of his stall, starting the video by briefly panning over the signboard to show its offerings. Tagging the location as a coffeeshop at Blk 9012 Tampines Street 93, the former Mediacorp artiste formally introduced his stall in his first-ever TikTok. He wrote in the caption: 'A new beginning. Thank you for being part of it. That day at the stall was a wake-up call. Your kindness gave me strength to reflect and figure out my next steps. The road ahead is mine to walk — and it's a path I've chosen for myself. I'll be sharing this journey with you.' In early June, a social media user posted the first sighting of Zhang standing in front of the cash register and appearing to be taking orders from customers. Amid the hustle and bustle, the user noted that he was polite and humble, and he was working that day because his employee had resigned. On March 18, a Facebook post by the Tampines Small and Medium Enterprises Association (TSMEA) indicated that Zhang's stall was newly opened during that period and serves traditonal steamed dishes like egg, meat, fish and prawns. Zhang said in his video: 'I know there were many friends, even loyal customers, who took pictures of me helping out here last week. I am very grateful for all the encouragement I've received on social media. 'I would like to take the opportunity to thank the people by my side who have been silently supporting me, as well as the friends who have come over after seeing the reports.' He also credited his long-time friend Catherine Chew for encouraging him to create a TikTok account. 'I'm touched by her sincerity, as well as her eagerness for the public to see another side of me. She has also introduced me to several bosses, who want to collaborate with me on TikTok in the future.' The bachelor's image took a hit in July 2024 when rumours surfaced about him fathering children out of wedlock with women of different nationalities. In November 2024, Zhang took to Instagram to commemorate his holiday to South Korea with his two daughters, confirming his fatherhood for the first time. In February, Mediacorp's talent management agency The Celebrity Agency stated it was no longer representing him and he has not participated in the filming of any new shows. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network

Empat is the name - Malaysian music legends team up with family members to become music's new super quartet

The dice has been set and it heralds a new beginning for Malaysian music and also for the South-East Asia entertainment scene. Meet the new quartet set to break new grounds in the local and international entertainment scene. They are aptly called Empat and will feature legendary singers and siblings Ziana Zain and Anuar Zain, along with their niece, award-winning singer Ernie Zakrie, and her husband Syamel, a well-known singer-composer who was also a member of Akademi Fantasia 2015 franchise. And then comes the 'Empat Live in KL 2025', which will be held at the Mega Star Arena on Oct 18. It will also mark the first concert collaboration between the four family members, each of whom has made a significant and lasting impacts on the Malaysian music industry. They will take to the stage in a performance of love for their fans who have shown immense support through ticket purchases shortly after the concert was announced last month. Already 85% of the concert tickets have been sold and it is expected to be sold out by end the month. And the love that they have received from their fans will see the four becoming a brand of their own with future collaborations. To start things off, the four top musicians among the superstars of Malaysian music for that long, will combine their skills for a new single in celebration of the concert. They are already working with Edry Abdul Halim of legendary group KRU for the new singles expected to hit the charts in August well before the concert. "This is not a one-off thing. That I can promise everyone. It is a great start and we all agreed that we want to continue with this new combination and we have several things planned for the group," said a happy Anuar Zain. "But one thing for sure, Empat is the new brand in town. That is for real. "Besides the concert, we have the upcoming single which we will announce to all soon. On the questions of coming out with a album, all four of us are not going there yet. It may come in the future, we will take everything step by step and the important part, is enjoying this new venture." As for the concert, organised by Anuar Zain Network and co-organised by Altus ProHouse -- Ziana Zain, who has been crooning unforgettable tunes for music lovers since 1991, said all four of them are overwhelmed by the support shown by the fans. "I can't wait for October. Words can't express what your support means to us. I hope October 18 becomes a phenomenon in the industry – it's the first time a family of artists is doing a concert like this. It will be our most memorable night,' said Ziana. She also has been preparing mentally and physically – hitting the gym and watching her diet. Ziana also teased fans about the concert content. "There will be many hit songs, and even some that haven't been performed in a long time will be revived on this night. Just like Anuar, Syamel, and Ernie, I'm focused on lyrics and mental preparation," said Ziana. "In many ways, this concert is our (Empat) gift of love and tribute to the journey of their artistic careers, and it will be performed with sheer magic on show night. This is our promise to you (fans)." Anuar Zain, Ernie Zakrie, and her husband Syamel also expressed their deep gratitude to the fans for their strong support. "I hope everyone who bought tickets will truly be present at Mega Star Arena on the night and be part of this beautiful memory we are creating together,' said Anuar. "With this family collaboration, we hope the concert will satisfy everyone and we are aiming to truly entertain all our fans. Expect some singalongs and interaction between us four and the audience… Let's bring the house down," he said. The Ernie-Syamel couple also said they are fully focused on preparing to deliver his best for the audience. "Right now, all four of us are preparing mentally and physically to give our all and satisfy our beloved fans. Come with open hearts and minds. Let's celebrate this beautiful moment together and create an unforgettable memory at Empat Live in Kuala Lumpur 2025," said Ernie. 'I can say this will be a historic night for me personally and for the industry – a first for a family of singers to perform together in such a major concert. This show wouldn't be possible without the fans. Everywhere I go, people say they've already bought tickets. It touches my heart and I can't wait to pour our love into the performance,' said Ernie. Syamel, too, feels this concert will be a beautiful, lasting memory – not just for the four of them, but for the loyal fans. "Those in the audience aren't just spectators – they're the heartbeat of this historic night. "We're not just singers – we're here to share love, stories, and the rollercoaster of our musical journey. I want the audience to travel and reminisce through the song selections that we'll present on October 18 at Mega Star Arena. It's my hope that our performance will truly touch their hearts,' said Syamel. Meanwhile, Sze Wan, the renowned music director, is at the helm of the historic concert. She is thrilled and describes the concert as a musical journey of Malaysian ballads that unites eras and generations, still well-loved by fans today. "Empat Live in Kuala Lumpur 2025 can be described as a musical journey, especially in the ballad genre, spanning from the era of diva Ziana Zain, to the phenomenon of 'Lelaki Ini' by Anuar Zain, wrapped in the modern vocal stylings and fusion genres brought to life by Ernie Zakri and Syamel,' shared Sze Wan. "It will be one unforgettable affair and there will definitely be many special moments."
