PM Anwar extends aid to cancer patient and retired soldier in Kuantan
The aid was handed over on behalf of the prime minister by his political secretary, Datuk Ahmad Farhan Fauzi, during a Ziarah Madani programme visit to Taman Balok Jaya, Kuantan, Pahang.
'I was deeply moved when I heard two truly touching life stories, beginning with Sharul, 27, who, at such a young age, has to battle stage-four nasal cancer.
'Even more heartbreaking, he has a young child whose father is now battling chronic health issues and requires support to survive,' he said in a Facebook post shared by the prime minister today.
Ahmad Farhan also shared about Pak Nik Soh, who has been suffering from optic nerve problems for the past three years.
'A father who once served the country now relies on his children and neighbours to continue his daily life. On behalf of the Prime Minister, I extend a small contribution as a gesture of love and solidarity.
'Above all, what is most needed are prayers, attention, and ongoing efforts so that they do not face their battles alone. May Allah SWT grant strength and perseverance to their family,' he said. — Bernama

BUSINESS GEORGE TOWN, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- UMediC Group Bhd (UMC) has increased its manufacturing capacity by doubling it with the unveiling of its expansion at Batu Kawan Industrial Park, Penang. He added that UMC has evolved from a medical device manufacturer into an integrated healthcare provider by leveraging advanced technology, digital tools, and research and development (R&D). Additionally, the establishment of training centres and ambulance services enhances its market position while contributing to the improvement of Malaysia's healthcare industry. Present at the launch was State Executive Councillor for Youth and Sports Daniel Gooi Zi Sen. 'UMC's success brings pride to Penang, boosts our economy and enhances the nation's global reputation,' he said. MADANI Adopted Village: MOH Confident Kampung Santan Selatan Will Be Model Village
KANGAR, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Health (MOH) is confident that Kampung Santan Selatan will serve as a model for inclusive and thriving community development for the country, particularly Perlis, under the ministry's MADANI Adopted Village programme. MOH secretary-general Datuk Seri Suriani Ahmad said a total of RM1 million has been set aside for the programme until December this year, which will be utilised to address issues at the village, including dilapidated village clinic, slow drainage flow, waste management, and assistance for asnaf families. "All issues are being addressed through engagement with government agencies in Perlis, namely the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU), Public Works Department (JKR), Kangar Municipal Council (MPKangar), and the State Health Department (JKN)," she said during the programme's launch at the village here today. According to Suriani, Perlis JKN is in the process of repairing and upgrading the facilities at the Santan Village Clinic to provide greater comfort for patients, with completion expected by November. Meanwhile, she said Sekolah Kebangsaan Santan has been selected for the MADANI Adopted School programme, an initiative to strengthen education in rural areas across five key areas: infrastructure, academics, teacher development, financial assistance, as well as student character and skills. 'RM100,000 has been approved to implement the programme. The funds will be used to improve school facilities and support initiatives that can enhance students' academic performance and potential. We hope this school will become a centre of knowledge and a place to build character and leadership for the next generation,' she said. Suriani said efforts have begun to unlock the village's potential and bridge the gap between leaders, government agencies, and the community, as well as build a more advanced and competitive society. KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- The European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) has launched its Antibiotic Allergy Awareness Campaign during its 2025 Congress in Glasgow, marking the start of a global initiative to address mislabelling and its link to antimicrobial resistance (AMR). In a statement, the association said inaccurate antibiotic allergy labels affect millions of patients worldwide, leading to avoidance of first-line treatments and increased reliance on second-line antibiotics, a practice that fuels AMR. EAACI is calling on stakeholders, including healthcare providers, policymakers and educators, to promote accurate diagnosis and responsible antibiotic use.
