Days after Minnesota Democratic lawmaker and her husband were fatally shot in a politically motivated attack, the suspect, Vance Boelter, has been arrested.
A 57-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing a Minnesota Democratic state lawmaker and her husband while posing as a police officer. According to Governor Tim Walz, the accused was identified as Vance Luther Boelter.
Boelter was arrested on Sunday evening, after a massive manhunt had been underway following the shooting deaths on Saturday of Melissa Hortman, the top Democrat in the Minnesota House, and her husband, Mark.
Soon after the incident, the Governor had termed it as a 'politically motivated assassination."
Authorities said Boelter also shot and wounded another Democratic lawmaker, state Senator John Hoffman, and his wife, Yvette, at their home a few miles away.
Drew Evans, superintendent of the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, said at a news conference that authorities found a car very early on Sunday that they believed Boelter was using, a few miles from his home in Green Isle, in the farm country about an hour west of Minneapolis.
He also said they found evidence in the car that was relevant to the investigation, but did not provide details.
On Sunday evening, US Senator Amy Klobuchar shared a statement from Yvette Hoffman expressing appreciation for the outpouring of public support.
According to the Associated Press, Evans confirmed that investigators found a cowboy hat near the vehicle and believe it belonged to Boelter.
The superintendent also said authorities interviewed Boelter's wife and other family members in connection with Saturday's shootings. He said they were cooperative and were not in custody.
Boelter was charged with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree attempted murder, according to a Hennepin County criminal complaint.
Walz said Hoffman came out of his final surgery and was moving towards recovery.

BJP legislator suspended after ruckus in Bengal Assembly

Pandemonium broke out within the West Bengal Assembly on Monday, the sixth day of the Monsoon Session of the House, following protests by the members of the BJP's legislative team during the speech by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. This ultimately led to the suspension of the BJP legislator from Kumargram Assembly constituency in Alipurduar district, Manoj Kumar Oraon from the House. However, it is not yet clear for how long Oraon has been suspended. After the suspension of Oraon was announced by Speaker Biman Bandopadhyay on Monday afternoon, the BJP legislators protested first on the floor of the House and then staged a walkout. Thereafter, they started a sit-in demonstration on the lawn of the Assembly with posters denouncing the suspension of Oraon. The ruckus started after the Chief Minister rose to deliver her speech and attacked the Union government on the freezing of funds under different centrally-sponsored projects in West Bengal. 'The Union government has stopped payment under the MGNREGA scheme. The dues to the West Bengal government under different centrally-sponsored projects are being diverted to other states. "Several investigation teams have come to West Bengal and in all the cases the state government answered their queries. But even after that, the payments have been stopped,' the Chief Minister said. Amid her speech, the BJP legislator led by the party's Chief Whip in the Assembly Shankar Ghosh started protesting and raising slogans within the House. Soon after that, the Speaker announced the suspension of Oraon from the Assembly. While the BJP legislators were protesting, the Chief Minister was heard saying that Bengali-speaking people in some other states are often branded as Bangladeshis and harassed. Earlier, as the proceedings of the House started for the day, the BJP legislators sought a discussion on the state of affairs in the education system of West Bengal. However, the Speaker declined their demand and said that since the matter was sub judice it could not be discussed on the floor of the House. However, in their counter-argument, the BJP legislators argued that there had been several instances in the past where sub judice matters were discussed on the floor of the House.

The clip from her address to the media has gone viral on social media, showing her breaking down in tears. The clip, which showed her clearly upset, went viral online, after the news of her passing. Authorities have determined that the killing of Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, was a deliberate assassination. John Hoffman, a state senator, and his spouse were also shot in Minnesota and are still in the hospital. The couple underwent surgery. The shooter exchanged gunfire with cops and successfully fled out the Hortman property, according to Brooklyn Park Police Chief Mark Bruley. The assailant was disguised as an officer, driving a car that looked like a police SUV with emergency lights. The FBI is offering assistance in the investigation, and Vance Boelter, 57, is the suspected gunman, has been taken into custody. He was reportedly lodging in a Minneapolis rental house owned by his longtime friend David Carlson. Carlson, 59, claimed that Boelter texted him and another friend unsettling texts just before the incident, according to CNN affiliate KARE. Boelter allegedly said in the messages that he 'may be dead shortly'. According to David Carlson, Boelter had been battling unemployment and monetary issues. "He was looking around, but maybe things didn't work out and he just gave up and decided to go out in a blaze of glory," he said. 'I have no idea what he was thinking.'

'Tehran Will Pay The Price': Israeli Defence Minister Warns After Iran Strikes Civilians

Last Updated: Iran Missile Strike Israel: Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz warned that Tehran's residents would "pay the price" after Iranian missile attacks killed Israeli civilians. Iran Missile Strike Israel: On Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz on Monday warned that Tehran's residents would 'pay the price" for Iranian strikes on Israeli civilians. 'The boastful dictator from Tehran has turned into a cowardly murderer, deliberately firing at Israel's civilian home front in an attempt to deter the (Israeli military) from continuing the offensive that is crippling his capabilities," Katz wrote on his Telegram channel. 'The residents of Tehran will pay the price — and soon," he added. However, later, in an X post, Katz wrote, 'I would like to clarify the obvious: there is no intention to physically harm the residents of Tehran as the murderous dictator does against the residents of Israel." 'The residents of Tehran will be forced to pay the price of dictatorship and evacuate their homes from areas where it will be necessary to attack regime targets and security infrastructure in Tehran. We will continue to protect the residents of Israel," he added. Katz's warning came as Iran launched a new wave of missile attacks on Israel early Monday, triggering air raid sirens across the country. Emergency services reported that at least three people were killed, and dozens more were injured in the fourth day of open warfare between the regional foes. Iran announced it had launched some 100 missiles and vowed further retaliation for the surprise attack on its nuclear programme and military leadership that Israel began last Friday. Powerful explosions, likely from Israel's defence systems intercepting Iranian missiles, rocked Tel Aviv shortly before dawn on Monday, sending plumes of black smoke into the sky over the coastal city. Authorities in the central Israeli city of Petah Tikva near Tel Aviv said that Iranian missiles had hit a residential building there, charring concrete walls, blowing out windows and heavily damaging multiple apartments, the Associated Press reported. The Israeli Magen David Adom emergency service reported that two women and one man were killed in the wave of missile attacks that struck four sites in central Israel. That brought the total death toll in Israel to at least 17 since Iran began launching missiles at the country in response to Israel's sweeping attacks on its military and nuclear infrastructure last Friday. The MDA added that paramedics had evacuated another 74 injured people to hospitals, including a 30-year-old woman in serious condition, while rescuers were still searching for residents trapped beneath the rubble of their homes. On Sunday, Iran said Israel had killed the Revolutionary Guard's intelligence chief and pummelled population centres in intensive aerial attacks that raised the death toll from Israel's campaign to 224 people since Friday. Health authorities also reported that 1,277 were wounded in Iran, without distinguishing between military officials and civilians.
