Arsenal transfer news: Gunners still working on five deals despite £68m deadline passing
Arsenal begin their Premier League campaign against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday but are still working on deals to strengthen Mikel Arteta's squad Arsenal are about to start their Premier League campaign, with just two days until they face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, and their squad is now fairly settled. The Gunners have been busy in the summer transfer window, signing Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera and Viktor Gyokeres to bolster Mikel Arteta 's squad. It is hoped that the reinforcements can help turn Arsenal from perennial runners-up to Premier League champions for the first time since 2004. Nevertheless, there are still a few weeks left until the window closes for business on September 1 – and Arsenal aren't done yet. Attention has now turned to offloading a few unwanted players, with the hope that those funds can then be reinvested in more arrivals. Here Mirror Football looks at the possibilities. Eze deadline passes Arsenal have been interested in signing Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze this summer. And they know that Eze, who spent time in Arsenal's academy as a youngster, is interested in moving north of the river. However, things have gone quiet and the Gunners have now missed out on the chance of triggering Eze's £68million release clause. It is understood that the clause expires today and Tottenham are in pole position to sign the England star. Spurs are preparing a bid in the region of the £55m fee they paid West Ham for Mohammed Kudus, according to talkSPORT, and Arsenal aren't expected to challenge. They have cooled their interest, with Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman's breakthroughs providing back-up for Martin Odegaard in attacking midfield. Five sales in the works Sporting director Andrea Berta has been busy since arriving from Atletico Madrid. But he still has lots of work left to do – and most of that now concerns player sales, rather than signings. The Gunners have only generated a mere £8.57m through player sales after flogging left-back Nuno Tavares to Lazio and Marquinhos to Cruzeiro. They lag way behind the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool in that respect and the need is growing as the clock ticks down to the end of the month. Arteta's side must find buyers for the likes of Leandro Trossard, Fabio Vieira, Reiss Nelson, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Karl Hein. Vieira and Nelson are at the front of the queue right now, with Stuttgart interested in the former and Fulham the latter. Norgaard transfer surprise Arsenal paid £12m to sign Norgaard from Brentford at the start of July, with his arrival sparking some surprise. Norgaard had spent six years with the Bees, rising to take the captaincy, but to some didn't appear to be of the calibre of Arsenal. It seems that the deal took some inside Brentford by surprise too, with his team-mate at club and international level Mikkel Damgaard explaining the reaction. 'Yes, you could say that it was a bit surprising,' Damsgaard told Viaplay. 'He really deserved it with how he played last season. I don't know if it's an underrated signing, but I really think it's a really good signing for Arsenal. He's a player who just has a lot of quality and works really hard.' Man Utd transfer news: Rasmus Hojlund set for exit as Red Devils in midfielder talks
Manchester United have just a few weeks remaining to get their summer business sorted and it appears that a few deals could be confirmed sooner rather than later Manchester United are in no mood to stand still when it comes to the transfer market. The Red Devils have already backed Ruben Amorim heavily with an eye-watering summer outlay. Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko have already sealed moves to Old Trafford and the pressure is now on the trio to perform. And while United 's attack now looks in far better state than it did last year, it leaves a few players with uncertain futures. Rasmus Hojlund, Joshua Zirkzee, Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho could all still exit before the transfer window shuts in a matter of weeks. There could also be some more arrivals. Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba has admirers at Old Trafford, but it's thought that he too would cost a huge amount should United make a move. With all of that being said, take a look at all of the transfer news and rumours coming out of the red side of Manchester: Hojlund set for exit talks With the signing of Benjamin Sesko, it appeared that Hojlund was primed for an exit. And that could potentially be closer than first thought. AC Milan have already been linked with a move for the Danish hitman. Boss Max Allegri is reportedly set to play a big role in a potential switch. As per Gazzetta dello Sport, talks between Milan and Hojlund's representatives have already taken place. Hojlund will now have a meeting with boss Allegri, who will attempt to convince the striker to move to the San Siro. Midfielder deal nearly done Amid United's apparent interest in Baleba, they could be set to make room for him with an imminent exit. As per The Athletic, academt graduate Toby Collyer is primed for a move to Championship side West Bromwich Albion. Collyer expressed his desire to leave for more first-team experience earlier this summer, and will join the Baggies on a season-long loan. Sheffield Wednesday and Leicester were both previously linked. It was also suggested that Collyer could have been involved in negotiations for Baleba, but that now appears to be off of the table. Red Devils receive Sancho offer Manchester United have reportedly received an offer from Italian giants AS Roma for misfit winger Jadon Sancho. The winger remains out of favour at Old Trafford following his loan spell at Chelsea. And according to The Times, Roma have now offered to take him on a temporary deal for the season. The Red Devils would reportedly prefer a permanent sale to get his £250,000-a-week wages off of the books. United value Sancho between £20million and £25million. The winger has just one year remaining on his contract at Old Trafford. Join our new MAN UTD WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Manchester United content from Mirror Football. Man Utd set price to sign Sporting star as Ruben Amorim sanctions bid
Manchester United are lining up a bid for Sporting captain Morten Hjulmand in case they miss out on first-choice midfield target Carlos Baleba. United were thought to be near enough done in the transfer market after spending almost £200m on Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha. The Red Devils do not have the spending power of some of their Premier League rivals after missing out on Champions League football. That meant United were expected to focus their attentions on outgoings up until the transfer deadline and offload as many members of Ruben Amorim's bomb squad as possible. However, it emerged last week that the Manchester giants had expressed interest in a stunning deal for Brighton midfielder Baleba. Metro's new weekly football newsletter: In The Mixer. Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every Friday – sign up, it's an open goal. United's midfield lacked energy and bite last season and Baleba is seen as an ideal addition to the Old Trafford squad following his impressive form on the south coast. Manchester United remain interested in Baleba despite learning that Brighton will demand at least £100m to part ways with the Cameroon international. The chances of a summer deal still appear relatively slim given the numbers involved and as a result United are looking at other options. They have been repeatedly linked with a move for Amorim's former Sporting captain Hjulmand since the manager's appointment back in November. According to The Sun, Manchester United will step up their interest in the Denmark international should they fail in their mission to sign Baleba and are preparing a £50m move. Amorim pushed to sign Hjulmand from Lecce in 2023 and made him his captain as he emerged as a key player for his title-winning Sporting side. Hjulmand's leadership skills and 'monster mentality' impressed Amorim and the United boss is ready to sanction a move to secure a reunion in Manchester. Hjulmand has a release clause worth £68m but it is claimed Sporting would be willing to sell for around £10m less that figure if achievable add-ons were agreed. The 26-year-old scored in Sporting's opening win over Casa Pia on Friday night. Baleba remains United's first-choice target for the time being but it remains to be seen if they are able to come up with a deal. More Trending There is also the threat of a rival move from Manchester City, who have also expressed interest in signing the Seagulls star. Discussing the speculation surrounding Baleba at a Brighton fans' forum last week, club chairman Paul Barber said: 'There's always going to be interest in our players. 'Manchester United have not been in touch with me. Speculation is speculation. Carlos is a fantastic talent. 'We hope he'll be here for years to come – but its subject to the dynamics of the football world, which isn't always predictable.' For more stories like this, check our sport page.
