Actor Nyrraa Banerji, known for her work in Bollywood and South Indian cinema, has experienced a rollercoaster journey in the film industry. Recently, Nyrraa opened up about her entry into South Indian cinema, how she was labelled 'perfect' for the industry due to her 'voluptuous' figure, and the challenge of balancing her film career with law school.
On SCREEN's The Suvir Saran Show, Nyrraa revealed that she actually joined law school as no one in her family was a lawyer, but her interests lay elsewhere. 'I went to law school in Bombay. I chose that because no one in my family is a lawyer. In college, I used to participate a lot in these inter-college competitions, but not for acting, for dancing and fashion shows. I was inclined towards dancing. I actually wanted to become a dancer apart from law,' she shared.
Talking about her entry into cinema, the actor recalled how casting directors often told her that her face and body were well-suited for South Indian films. 'I always heard casting directors say, 'Tumhaara face and body South Indian films ke lie perfect hai.' I was a little voluptuous and not so skinny at that time. Yeh log bol lete hain muh par ki aapka face and figure South movies wala hai. I said that I don't want to do it. I have never even seen a South film. A casting director took Sridevi and other legendary actor names, explaining how South Indian films are also good,' she said.

'When I went home and told my parents about the offer, dad said no. My mother also said that forget it because we don't know anybody who we can even consult. But, they also said that if one of them is travelling with me to Mumbai and overlooking, then it's worth giving a shot. Because astrologically, several pandits had already destined that this girl will definitely do something in the creative field, she is very good at fine arts. That's how I did Kadambari, a Sanskrit TV show,' the actor added, explaining how fate worked for her eventually.
However, the journey came with its own ups and downs as she shared that South cinema is highly competitive, making it difficult for her to manage with studies. 'Then I started doing movies. I was getting huge film offers and lead roles. But, I was turning them down for studying because I had to do that alongside. Many people said that people leave studying for acting and you are leaving acting for studies. What nonsense? And in the South industry, when you take films continuously and do them non-stop, it takes you to a very different level. But otherwise, every day a new girl is being launched because it is a highly competitive industry,' she expressed.
Nyrraa continued, 'But, at that time, neither did I understand the depth of this nor did I have a decent manager who would make me understand that manage your career somehow, focus on your career and you could be a big star. My mom's point was also right that I need to have a backup, and nothing better than education.'

When the sound of silence is prized

The Kamal Haasan starrer Thug Life is in trouble in Karnataka because of the star's remark that Kannada came out of Tamil. The film industry in Karnataka has demanded an apology from him before clearing the film for release, but Kamal has refused to do so. A court in Bengaluru, too, has indicated in a statement that includes local language phrases that the sentiments of the masses cannot be hurt so casually and has thought that an apology would be required. Without that apology, the film may find it difficult to be released in Karnataka. All South Indian languages came out of a common source that resembles them to different degrees. But if someone says that one of them came out of another, it is like equating a language as it is spoken today with that source. It has been found, for instance, that Proto-Dravidian, a reconstructed source for South Indian languages, has commonalities with a language spoken near the Zagros mountains in Iran—since the Harappans are supposed to have been a mixture of early Indians and migrants from that region. In any case, all these are academic exercises and cannot have much bearing on the controversy, because that stems from political loyalties and beliefs. The creation of linguistic states was a rational decision, but it had major repercussions that were not anticipated. It created language loyalties in pockets where Hindi was not widely spoken, like South India. The Devanagari script is associated with Sanskrit, which has Brahminical associations, and language in South India has also become connected to caste issues.

Karan Johar cryptically reacts to rumours of insuring his face after secret South Korea trips: 'The oh-so-secret scoops!'

Karan Johar has always known how to make headlines, whether it's for his fashion, films, or fiery talk show comebacks. But this time, the filmmaker is trending for a rather unexpected reason. A viral Reddit post claims that the Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani director secretly flew to South Korea multiple times to get one very specific thing done: insurance for his face. According to the post, Johar was allegedly inspired by a close friend from the South Indian film industry who had done the same. 'Rumour has it Karan Johar secretly flew to South Korea multiple times to get… his face insured. Yup, inspired by a close friend, and apparently it's a trend there,' the post read. It added cheekily, 'Insiders say he's been way more chill since—smiling more, less snappy, even gave a rare compliment at work. No word from him yet, but now we're all wondering: does this cover acne, sunburns, wrinkles? And how much is that premium?!' Karan breaks his silence—sort of While the director hasn't confirmed or denied the claim, he did respond with a cryptic Instagram Story. 'Read the rumours, the whispers. The oh-so-secret scoops! Well, keep up the drama and stay tuned,' he wrote, adding fuel to the speculative fire. Karan wouldn't be the first Bollywood celebrity to get a unique part of their body insured. Amitabh Bachchan's iconic baritone voice is protected, while John Abraham once reportedly insured his much-talked-about backside. So face insurance? Sounds like classic KJo drama, served with a side of flair. What else is KJo up to? While the rumour mill churns, Karan Johar is staying busy on the professional front. He's set to host the Hindi adaptation of the international reality show The Traitors on Amazon Prime Video. The series premieres June 12, with new episodes dropping every Thursday. Karan Johar's Fashion Love Began with Zeenat Aman! Meanwhile, Dharma Productions has a stacked slate. Among the big releases: Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari starring Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Dhawan, Dhadak 2 with Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi, Chand Mera Dil featuring Ananya Panday and Lakshya, Tu Meri Main Tera, Main Tera Tu Meri with Kartik Aaryan and Nagzilla, a VFX-heavy spectacle. Johar also made waves at the Cannes Film Festival 2025, where Dharma's Homebound—directed by Neeraj Ghaywan and starring Janhvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter, and Vishal Jethwa—had its premiere. The film follows two childhood friends from a small North Indian village chasing police jobs, only to find their bond tested by ambition and desperation.
