Rajasthan governor offers prayers at Tripura Sundari temple in Banswara
During his visit, the Governor performed rituals and prayed to Goddess Tripura Sundari for peace, prosperity and well-being of the state, according to an official statement.
The Tripura Sundari Mandir, located about 20 km from Banswara city, holds immense spiritual importance for devotees of Goddess Shakti.
The deity, also known as Maa Turtia Mata, is believed to be an incarnation of Goddess Durga.
The temple is said to date back over 1,000 years and attracts pilgrims from across Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, especially during the Navratri festival when grand celebrations are held. PTI SDA KSS KSS

India's ‘Next Gen GST' may pave way for single tax slab System: Report
Senior government officials have described the proposed GST tax reforms as 'Next Gen GST', a significant overhaul that could eventually pave the way for a single sales/services tax rate by 2047. The proposal, if approved by the GST council, aims to replace the current four-slab structure in the goods and services tax (GST) regime with a two-slab regime, featuring rates of 5 per cent and 18 per cent, while also retaining a 40 per cent tax on 'sin goods.' This new system would eliminate the 12 per cent and 28 per cent tax brackets, PTI reported. The primary goal of this reform is to boost the economy and also serve to mitigate tariff threats. Calling it the "next Gen GST', one government official said "it is a game changer reform. In the pantheon of economic reforms seen in India, it's right up there." said officials who spoke to PTI. They also said the new structure would mean that almost all of the common use items will move to the lower tax bracket, leading to price cuts, which in turn would boost consumption. The changes are a result of nearly six months of extensive deliberations and meetings, with an aim of creating a stable tax environment and preventing the accumulation of input tax credit (ITC). The new structure is designed to cater to the needs of the middle class, poor, farmers, and MSMEs in mind. Daily use items, such as packaged food, beverages and apparel would be moved to the lower 5 per cent from 12 per cent bracket to boost consumption of these products. "Once the system is put in place and India becomes a developed nation, we can think about a single rate GST," said the official, adding that a single rate structure is suitable for developed countries where income and spending capacities are uniform. "We have looked at every item, item by item and in some cases we have gone back and forth 3-4 times. Whether it is pesticide for use by farmers or pencils for students or some raw material or intermediaries for MSMEs, every item has been discussed threadbare and categorized in the merit or standard slab,' the official said. According to the proposal, a significant number of items would be re-categorized: 12 to 5 per cent: As many as 99 per cent of the items in the 12 per cent category such as butter, fruit juices and dry fruits would move to 5 per cent tax rate. 28 to 18 per cent: About 90 per cent of the items currently taxed at 28 per cent, including electronic items like ACs, TVs, fridges, and washing machines as well as other goods like cement will be moved to the 18 per cent slab. The Council is expected to meet next month to deliberate on the tax reform proposal. The move comes after US President Donald Trump imposed an additional 25 per cent tariff on all goods India exports to the US, bringing the total to 50 per cent from August 27 to punish New Delhi for its crude oil purchases from Russia. The tariffs are likely to impact $40-billion of non-exempt Indian exports such as that of gems and jewelry, textiles and footwear. Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day address to the nation on Friday emphasized that India should become self-reliant and consume what is made in India, PTI reported.

Haryana CM Saini releases fodder grant of Rs 1.80 cr for cow shelters
Agency: PTI Kurukshetra, Aug 16 (PTI) Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday released a fodder grant of Rs 1.80 crore for 19 gaushalas (cow shelters) here. He further said the state government will release Rs 88.50 crore as fodder subsidy for 605 gaushalas across the state. Saini was addressing a gathering during a programme at Gita Gyan Sansthan, Kurukshetra, on the occasion of Sri Krishna Janmashtami. He extended his greetings on the festival. During the programme, he also released a research publication on the 'Gita' and Ayurveda. Earlier, he visited Sri Krishna Kripa Gaushala, where he offered prayers, and fed jaggery and fodder to cows, and performed rituals at Sri Krishna Kripa temple, said an official release. He said that over the past ten-and-a-half years, the government has provided fodder subsidies worth Rs 270 crore to registered gaushalas. With the current release, the total subsidy amount has now reached Rs 358.50 crore, he added. In 2014-�15, the budget for Haryana Gau Seva Aayog was only Rs two crore, said Saini, adding that the present government raised it to Rs 595 crore this year, he said. Until 2014, Haryana had only 215 registered gaushalas with about 1.75 lakh cattle. Currently, there are 686 registered gaushalas housing nearly about four lakh stray cattle. Solar power plants have been installed in 330 gaushalas, and the work to set them up in the remaining gaushalas will soon be completed, he said. Will use power to serve people, not to settle scores with anyone: Revanth Reddy
Agency: PTI Hyderabad, Aug 16 (PTI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday said he would like to use power for the welfare of people but not to settle a score with anyone. Speaking after releasing the book 'Hasita Bhashpalu' written by poet Ande Sri, he said his victory is enough to cause pain to those who troubled him in the past. The CM said some persons had told him that he could target those who caused him trouble as he is now in power. However, he replied that he does not see anyone as an enemy. Observing that he held the posts of Zilla Parishad member, MLC, MLA, MP in a span of 17 years (from 2006 to 2023) before assuming the role of chief minister, Reddy said he feels power should be used for the welfare of four crore Telangana people. Taking a veiled dig at BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao, he said some people claim to be agitationists (for Telangana statehood) but true agitationists never claim. From Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara to Ande Sri, those who truly fought for people lost their personal properties and their families remained neglected, he said. 'But, those who claim to be agitationists acquired TV channels, newspapers, farmhouses and investments of thousands of crores. But, still they claim to be agitationists," he said. Reddy further said meeting the chief minister was a big thing earlier (during the BRS regime). However, anybody can meet the CM today, he said. 'I am one among you. I got this opportunity (CM post). As long as I have this opportunity, I will use it to serve poor people but not for my personal interests. Whether it is for five years or 10 years, I don't know," he added. Reiterating his resolve to make Telangana a USD one trillion economy by 2035 and a USD three trillion economy by 2047, the CM said he would make relentless efforts to make the state emerge as a USD three trillion economy by remaining active in public life till 2047.
