During this part of the football calendar, there's not much happening beyond recruiting updates. However, coaching events offer valuable insights into the team's progress following spring training.
For Texas A&M, lingering questions remain after last season's conclusion and a vanilla Spring Game. While the team is still searching for breakout stars, the Aggies boast plenty of experience on both sides of the ball.
The offensive line is set to return all five starters, providing a strong foundation for the unit. With a deep running back room and a playbook tailored to quarterback Marcel Reed's skill set, the offense looks promising. While wide receiver and tight end positions are still being finalized, the talent pool remains deep.
Defensively, the secondary brings valuable experience, bolstered by the addition of cornerback Julian Humphrey. However, the defensive line faces its biggest challenge after losing three key players, Shemar Turner, Shemar Stewart, and Nic Scourton, to the NFL. Seniors Cashius Howell and Albert Regis will lead the charge, with hopes that emerging talent will step up.

"When you look at the current roster, we project to have more NFL Draft picks on this 2025 roster than we've had in a long time. We project anywhere from 10 to 12 players to hear their name called in the 2026 draft."

"We bring back eight starters on defense. It was well documented that we need to finish seasons better. That group is really hungry to go out and play the level of defense Texas A&M fans deserve."

At organized team activities (OTAs), New York got in some team drills as it ramps up towards training camp. Toward the end of practice, exhausted by the hot weather, a skirmish broke out and eventually evolved into a bigger fight. Advertisement Headlined by edge rusher Brian Burns, the fight ended Giants practice early. According to Connor Hughes, Burns sprinted from the sideline to take down backup left tackle James Hudson III, who signed in the offseason. Edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux got into it with tackle Jermaine Eluemunor, and the veteran linemen soon escalated things. After practice, Burns reacted to the fight. 'The only thing I'm mad about is we had to go ahead and call it up,' he said, via the Associated Press. 'But, I mean, we got most of our work done today. But I just want to stay away from that, and I'm going to let it be known to the team, like, that's not what we're doing. We've got to keep our minds set on the main thing, which is football. All that horseplay and all that stuff is cool or whatever, a nice edge and everything like that, but we do have to get to the details and get our work done.' Advertisement Burns isn't just the most proven pass rusher and the most expensive player on the Giants' defense. He's also a veteran leader, and that came through with his comments. His first order of business was damage control. 'I mean, it's just, it's a violent sport we play,' Burns said. 'You know, guys trying to get better. Tensions raised a little high. The heat is getting a little hotter, so guys get a little more agitated. But it ain't that deep. We squashed it.' Simply put, this isn't something New York has to worry about. Fights happen, both before joint practices and during them. Tensions run hot, people get tired, and the physicality of the sport ups the ante. People are fighting for jobs and pride, and they are all months away from actually being able to take it out on somebody. Advertisement 'I feel like it's healthy, at times,' Burns said. 'I feel like it's healthy to a certain extent, though. You still want to get your work done at the end of the day, but that competition and that dog, that edge, that we need to have is needed. Got to keep it up.' There is plenty of time for the locker room to gel and for the Giants to be better for their skirmishes. For now, it's a flash of something newsworthy while the offseason's dead period carries on. Needless to say, it will be something fans keep an eye on as practices continue. The Giants, naturally, aren't too worried. 'This ain't nothing but a little brotherhood.' In signing Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, the Giants ensured that their quarterback play would be better than in 2024, when Daniel Jones made his last stand and the offense crumbled around him. With two viable quarterbacks, that is far less likely to occur, giving Dart more time to watch and, more importantly, learn from Wilson. After the Giants' OTAs on Thursday, Wilson explained his approach to mentoring Dart. 'I always share,' Wilson said, via Darryl Slater. 'I'm a big believer in communicating out loud: 'Here's what I'm thinking.' You don't hold any information [back]. For me, when you have tremendous confidence in yourself, you have no problem sharing with others. That's just what I've always believed.' Advertisement Other quarterbacks have been less willing to blitz their understudies with information. Cleveland Browns quarterback Joe Flacco found himself in hot water after he doubled down on his eagerness to start over the team's host of young passers. Self-preservation is a symptom of the competitiveness that gets athletes to the biggest stage, and it often is something that is hard to drop. Wilson, however, has continued to say and do all the right things in East Rutherford. He knows he's set to start, and he knows Dart could push him for playing time by the end of the year. If Wilson plays well enough to keep New York in contention late in the season, he may very well push Dart's debut into 2026. 'I just think about having success today,' Wilson said. 'That's always been my approach. I'm trying to be the best in the world. I think that for me, mentally, you have confidence in yourself and you have confidence in what you do, your process. I constantly stay the course and understand that if I'm the best me, I know how great that is. I always just stay within. I don't really think about outside.' It's far too early to tell how much success Wilson will have in East Rutherford. If he's a factor in turning Dart into a star, he'll go down as a win for New York. Even still, Reddick missed most of the 2024 season while holding out for a new contract with the New York Jets. It would make sense for him to show up and be dominant with his new team in Tampa Bay. That isn't what is happening, though. Reddick has remained away from the Buccaneers organization during voluntary workouts. Here's a question - why exactly isn't Reddick working out with his new team? Tampa Bay runs a different scheme than the Jets and Eagles do. Why does Reddick think he'll be able to pick that up easily? The reality is that Reddick has become a major enigma in NFL circles. The more he stays away from the team during the voluntary workout phase, the weirder this whole situation looks.
