Call records and witness statements indicate a six-hour phone conversation between Sonam and her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha, from 9 pm to 3 am on May 16-17
In the shocking honeymoon murder case spanning several Indian states, police investigations have revealed a disturbing plot involving Sonam Raghuvanshi, wife of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi. She is alleged to have conspired with her lover, Raj Kushwaha, to murder her husband just five days after their wedding.
The couple disappeared on May 23 during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. Following a police search, Raja's body was discovered on June 2, and Sonam was subsequently arrested in the early hours of June 9 in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur.
Sources close to the investigation have disclosed chilling details to Bhaskar English. Sonam married Raja Raghuvanshi on May 11. However, by May 16, just five days later, she had allegedly begun plotting against him. Call records and witness statements indicate a six-hour phone conversation between Sonam and her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha, from 9 pm to 3 am on May 17. Police believe this call was when the conspiracy to murder Raja was hatched.
The plan was swiftly put into action. On May 17, Raj Kushwaha met with three childhood friends: Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Anand Kurmi, all residents of Indore's Nandbag area. This meeting took place at a cafe behind the TCS office on Indore's Super Corridor, a secluded location chosen for its discretion. Police believe the details of the murder plot were finalised at this meeting, including the method of attack, timing, and an escape strategy designed to make the crime appear accidental.
A total of five people, including Sonam, Raj Kushwaha, Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi, have been arrested so far in the case.

Maharashtra: Wife kills husband with axe 3 weeks after marriage

Sangli: Just days after the gruesome Raja Raghuvanshi murder case sent shockwaves across the country, another chilling crime involving a newlywed couple has emerged, this time from Maharashtra, where a woman, married for just three weeks, allegedly killed her husband. The woman used an axe to kill her husband while he slept following a heated argument over the latter's insistence on consummating their marriage 15 days after the wedding. The incident took place in Sangli district on the night of June 10, officials confirmed on Thursday. According to the police, the couple -- Anil Lokhande and Radhika Lokhande -- were married on May 23. The officials mentioned that it was Anil's second marriage. His first wife had died of cancer. On Tuesday night, the couple engaged in a violent altercation over consummation that reportedly continued late into the night. Radhika was exasperated by Anil's insistence, and around midnight, when he retired to bed, in a sudden act of rage, she picked up an axe and fatally struck her husband on the head, the officials said. He died instantly, officials said. Shortly after committing the murder, Radhika reportedly called her cousin and confessed to the crime. Police arrested her on Wednesday and produced her before a magistrate, who remanded her to two days' police custody. A case has been registered against her under Section 103 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to murder. Police sources indicate that ongoing family discord may have led to the crime, though further investigations are underway to determine the precise motive. This shocking incident comes close on the heels of the sensational murder of Indore-based Raja Raghuvanshi during his honeymoon in Meghalaya. Raja and his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, were married on May 11 and had left for their honeymoon on May 20. Merely three days into the trip, both went missing. The case, which initially began as a missing person report, took a sinister turn when Raja's body was discovered in a deep gorge in Meghalaya on June 2. His autopsy revealed two severe head injuries -- one at the back and another on the front -- confirming a brutal murder. Further investigation uncovered a premeditated plot allegedly orchestrated by Sonam, her lover Raj Kushwaha, and three of his friends -- Akash Rajput, Anand Kurmi, and Vishal Singh Chauhan. On June 7, Sonam surrendered in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. All five accused, including Sonam and Raj, confessed to the crime and have been remanded to eight days of police custody.

Nexa Evergreen land Scam: ED raids 24 sites across Rajasthan, Gujarat

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday conducted a large-scale search operation at 24 locations across Rajasthan and Gujarat in connection with a money laundering case worth ₹2,700 crore linked to the Nexa Evergreen project. 'ED has recorded an ECIR (Enforcement Case Information Report) on the basis of FIRs filed by Rajasthan Police against Nexa Evergreen. They duped investors to the tune of ₹2,700 crore by luring them with promises of high returns and land plots in Dholera city, Gujarat. Searches were conducted at 24 locations in Sikar, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jhunjhunu, and Ahmedabad,' sources said. The company is accused of defrauding nearly 62,000 individuals, primarily by offering affordable flats and land parcels in Dholera, Gujarat. In cases where land could not be allotted, investors were promised high-interest returns. Although some received possession initially, the scheme was later exposed as fraudulent, leaving most investors without recourse. A senior official told Business Standard that the company had raised around ₹2,700 crore from investors through misleading assurances. The company's promoters, Subhash Bijarniya and Ranveer Bijarniya—both from Sikar in Rajasthan—allegedly targeted both civilians and government employees, including members of the police and armed forces. The duo marketed a scheme that promised to double investments within 14 months. Nexa Evergreen's background Nexa Evergreen Private Limited is a Gujarat-based real estate firm incorporated on 17 April 2021 and registered in Ahmedabad. The company claims to be engaged in buying, selling, and developing residential and commercial land. Separate ED action in Jaypee Group case last month Last month, the ED said it had seized ₹1.7 crore in cash and documents related to immovable assets during raids against Jaypee Infratech Ltd (JIL), Jaiprakash Associates Ltd (JAL), and associated entities in a separate money laundering investigation linked to alleged fraud involving homebuyers. The searches were carried out on 23 May at 15 premises in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Mumbai under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). "The search covered offices and premises of JAL, its related entities, and its promoter directors," the agency stated. Searches were also conducted at premises associated with key business partners of JAL, including Gaursons India Pvt Ltd, Gulshan Homz Pvt Ltd, and Mahagun Real Estate Pvt Ltd, the statement added.

Shillong varsity professor, vendor held by CBI on graft charges

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday (June 12, 2025) said it has arrested a professor of the North Eastern Hill University in Meghalaya's Shillong and a Guwahati-based vendor on graft charges in the supplies of laboratory equipment. 'N. Saha, the Zoology department professor and the dean of the School of Life Sciences at the Central University, and vendor Pranjal Sharma were apprehended during a transaction involving a bribe of ₹3,43 lakh at the university guest house in Guwahati,' a statement issued by the Central agency said. Acting on a tip-off about the professor and the vendor, who were allegedly involved in "corrupt practices" in the supply of laboratory equipment and clearance of bills, a trap was laid, and the two accused were "caught red-handed." 'During the investigation, CBI sleuths raided premises linked to the accused at two places and recovered incriminating documents,' the statement said. 'The search is under way at one more place,' the Central agency said. 'The arrested accused will be produced before a court in Guwahati during the day,' it added.
