Two Qatari innovators clinch first place at ITEX in Malaysia

Qatari innovators Amna Issa Al Kuwari and Fatima Issa Al Kuwari clinched first place and the gold medal in the individual category during their participation in the 36th International Invention, Innovation, and Technology Exhibition (ITEX), recently held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
This crowning achievement was the outcome of an innovative concept and rigorous research efforts, culminating in the development of a smart bracelet designed to prevent drowsiness-induced traffic accidents.
The device functions by detecting early signs of fatigue and issuing immediate alerts to drivers, thereby bolstering road safety and curbing accident rates. The project aligns squarely with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.
The two innovators touted this milestone and affirmed that the win reflects their love for science and development, an organic outcome of their diligent work and the significant support young Qataris receive from the prudent leadership.
Both winners highlighted the energized efforts made by the Qatar Scientific Club in providing technological support, which helped advance this innovation throughout the implementation phases, commencing with the idea and culminating in the prototype phase. This smart bracelet has so far received local and international awards, thereby confirming its effectiveness in fostering traffic safety and highlighting the growing creative capabilities of Qatar's young people on the global stage.

Qatari students achieve scientific accomplishments at 2025 Int'l Biology Olympiad in the Philippines
Tribune News Network Doha A team of students from Qatar achieved a distinguished accomplishment by winning their scientific project among the top ten projects among the participating countries in the 36th International Biology Olympiad (IBO 36), which was hosted by the city of Cosin, the Philippines, during the period from July 20 to 27, 2025, with the participation of 77 countries to promote innovation and excellence in biology. The Qatari team represented in this scientific competition, which is a global platform for measuring students' abilities in various branches of biology, by Jassim Fahad Al-Mutawa from Qatar Science and Technology Secondary School for Boys; Aisha Ahmed Al-Hashemi from Al-Maha Academy for Girls; Taqi Mohammed Al-Dulaimi from Al-Ab Secondary School for Girls; and Omar Firas Qabaqibi from the International School of Choueifat. The Qatari project was distinguished by its application of systematic thinking , which enabled students to present a comprehensive and innovative vision for solving scientific problems in a unique way. This victory reflects the remarkable development in the level of Qatari students in specialised sciences and their ability to compete strongly in international competitions. This is the sixth participation of the State of Qatar in the International Biology Olympiad, as the team had previously achieved honorable accomplishments in previous editions organized in Iran, Hungary, and Portugal, where they won (3 gold medals and an honorary certificate), Armenia where they won (an honorary certificate), the United Arab Emirates where they won (a bronze medal and an honorary certificate), and Kazakhstan where they won (a bronze medal and an honorary certificate). The next edition of the International Biology Olympiad ( IBO 37 ) is scheduled to be held in Lithuania in 2025-2026, with the Qatari team looking forward to continuing its path of excellence and achieving new accomplishments. This achievement embodies the Ministry of Education and Higher Education's commitment to supporting student participation in international competitions and its tireless efforts to provide an educational environment that encourages academic excellence, in line with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, which aims to build a knowledge-based society and empower national talent to compete and lead globally.

Heart of Scorpion to converge with Moon in Qatar's skies this month
QNA Doha People in Qatar and the Arab region are poised to witness the phenomenon of the star Antares (the Heart of the Scorpion) reaching its closest apparent point to the Moon twice this August. They can, likewise, observe this celestial phenomenon during this period by gazing at the southern horizon after sunset, Qatar Calendar House (QCH) has reported. Astronomy expert at QCH Dr. Bashir Marzouq stated that the star Antares will appear next to the Moon for the first time during August on the evening of Monday, August 4, 2025. People in Qatar can enjoy beholding Antares and the Moon together with the naked eye, high on the southern horizon of Qatar's sky after sunset on Monday, and until before Antares sets, Dr. Marzouq highlighted. It is noted that the sunset time on Monday will be at 6:18pm., while Antares is expected to set at 12:19am local Doha time. Dr. Marzouq further elucidated that, as for the evening of Sunday, August 31, 2025, the star will converge with the Moon for the second time during August, with an angular separation of approximately one degree. People in Qatar can enjoy gazing at Antares and the Moon together with the naked eye high on the southwestern horizon of Qatar's sky from sunset on Sunday at 5:55pm, while Antares is expected to set at 10:33pm local Doha time, he added. Marzouq highlighted that the very significance of these celestial phenomena lies in the fact that it is a good opportunity to ensure the accuracy of the astronomical calculations used to determine the orbits of planets, stars, and the Moon, in addition to the opportunity to enjoy beholding and photographing the Moon and the star Antares together at their closest point in the sky. These celestial phenomena, he said, serve as a guide for astronomy enthusiasts and those interested in identifying the celestial bodies they observe in Qatar's skies.

Daam, QSC launch ‘Shaping the Future of Innovation' initiative
QNA Doha The Behavioural Healthcare Centre (Daam), member of Qatar Foundation for Social Work, in collaboration with the Qatar Scientific Club (QSC), organized a training program titled 'Shaping the Future of Innovation' targeting the age group of 14 to 19 years. The initiative is part of the centre's efforts to promote behavioural health among youth and empower them to utilize future tools, particularly artificial intelligence applications, in serving their societal causes. The program provided an interactive platform that combined technical knowledge with behavioural awareness by training participants to design youth-led digital awareness initiatives using AI tools to produce meaningful visual and interactive content. The activities included a series of interactive training workshops supervised by specialists in artificial intelligence and digital design. Participants learned mechanisms for designing digital awareness presentations and platforms, and how to use modern technologies to build impactful awareness messages. Director of Community Awareness at Daam, Jawaher Abu Alfain, stated that the 'Shaping the Future of Innovation' program reflects the centre's commitment to offering innovative programs that give youth space for expression and creativity, enabling them to harness modern technology in addressing behavioural issues that matter to them and contribute to positive societal change.
