State government can't come to troubled club's aid
PETALING JAYA: The Perak state government has announced that it is unable to address the ongoing salary issues facing the Perak football team.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohammad explained that the government cannot provide financial assistance due to the soaring operational costs, a dilemma that many state teams across the nation are currently grappling with.
'Football in Malaysia has become increasingly burdensome financially, making it unsustainable for the state government to support,' he said.
Saarani noted that this situation is precisely why a transition to private sector sponsorship was agreed upon for the club.
He drew a comparison with England, stating: 'In England, while ticket prices may be high, stadiums are filled to capacity. In contrast, ticket prices in Malaysia are low with fewer attendees, yet player salaries remain elevated. This creates a financial strain that both clubs and state governments cannot bear.'
Saarani emphasised that the financial constraints are not unique to Perak, urging fans to understand that other states are also unable to resolve the fiscal challenges their clubs endure.
'The Perak state government cannot help settle the salary arrears for Perak players - that responsibility rests with the sponsor,' he concluded.
However, he assured that the state government remains committed to fostering football development through the Perak Football Association (Pafa), who are tasked with scouting talent across school and district competitions.
'The cost of football development is manageable, and the state has allocated approximately RM1mil to support these initiatives. We are providing the association with essential funding,' he said.
In a startling announcement on Saturday, Perak confirmed that they would not participate in next year's Super League.
Club chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi disclosed that the club are officially up for sale, inviting any interested conglomerates or businesses to come forward.
Perak, established in 1921, has a storied history, competing in every league format to date and boasting eight Malaysia Cup titles.
The future of this historic club now hangs in the balance as they seek new ownership and financial stability.

KL City, KDN and PDRM granted national licence
INDEPENDENT body First Instance Body (FIB) have approved the National Licence for Kuala Lumpur City FC (KL City), Kelantan Darul Naim FC (KDN), and PDRM FC to participate in the upcoming Malaysia League (M-League) season. FIB chairman Sheikh Mohd Nasir Sheikh Mohd Sharif said the decision was made after all three clubs submitted additional financial documents before the May 31 deadline this year. He said the requirement was in accordance with Article 8 (l) of the Malaysian Football League (MFL) Club Licensing Regulations. 'After reviewing and evaluating the additional financial documents submitted, FIB agreed to grant full National Licence status to the three clubs upon their successful fulfilment of all the compliance requirements. 'FIB expresses appreciation for the cooperation and strong commitment shown by KL City, KDN, and PDRM throughout the process, and wishes them all the best in the 2025–2026 Super League season,' he said in a statement issued by MFL today. Sheikh Mohd Nasir also informed that FIB had earlier granted the National Licence to Johor Darul Ta'zim FC (JDT), Selangor FC, Penang FC, Kuching City FC, Sabah FC, Terengganu FC, Sri Pahang FC, and Negeri Sembilan FC. In addition, he said two clubs from the A1 Semi-Pro League, Melaka FC and Imigresen FC, successfully obtained the Extraordinary National Licence.

MFL grants three teams full license to compete in Super League
PETALING JAYA: Super League teams Kuala Lumpur, Kelantan and Police have officially been granted full National Licences by the Malaysian Football League's (MFL) independent First Instance Body (FIB) after fulfilling all financial compliance requirements. Initially, the clubs had only received conditional approval, pending the submission of additional financial documents by May 31 per Article 8(l) of the MFL Club Licensing Regulations. On Thursday (June 12), the FIB confirmed that all three clubs had submitted the required documents ahead of the deadline. Following a thorough review and assessment of the additional materials, the FIB concluded that each club had successfully met the necessary licensing criteria. FIB chairman Sheikh Mohd Nasir Sheikh Mohd Sharif extended his appreciation for the cooperation and commitment shown by the three clubs throughout the process and wished them well in the upcoming season. Earlier, the FIB had also awarded full National Licences to Johor Darul Ta'zim, Selangor, Penang, Kuching City, Sabah, Terengganu, Pahang, Negri Sembilan and guest team Brunei. Additionally, Melaka and Immigration from the A1 Semi-Pro division were granted Extraordinary National Licences, allowing them to compete in the domestic top flight.

Selangor government urged to expedite repair works
SEREMBAN: Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (pic) has called on the Selangor government to expedite repair works on the Genting Peras-Kuala Klawang road that was damaged by floods four years ago. He said the road, which connects Jelebu in Negri Sembilan and Hulu Langat in Selangor, could help ease traffic congestion, especially during festive seasons and school holidays, besides serving as an alternative route for motorists heading to Kuala Lumpur. 'The damaged section in Jelebu has already been repaired, but the part at the Selangor border isn't. I will write to the Selangor Mentri Besar urging prompt repairs. Since it was damaged in 2021, we have not been able to use the route fully. 'If the road is repaired, it can become an alternative route to the Klang Valley. Motorists won't have to go through Seremban; they can go via Genting Peras from Jelebu into Hulu Langat and straight to Kuala Lumpur or Selangor,' he told Bernama at a press conference after chairing the state executive council meeting here yesterday. The Kuala Klawang-Genting Peras road has been closed to traffic since December 2021 after it was damaged by floods and landslides. Meanwhile, Aminuddin, who is also the Port Dickson Member of Parliament, said the state government has allocated RM1mil for a solar-powered lighting programme in rural areas, including Orang Asli villages. 'The RM2mil allocated by the Public Works Department for lighting is insufficient, as there are still poorly lit areas, so we've added another RM1mil. This is to ensure that attention is given to marginalised rural areas. It's part of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety and provide comfort and security to road users,' he said. On a separate matter, Aminuddin also extended condolences to the families of the 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris students who perished in the accident along the East-West Highway near Gerik on Monday.
