Goodwood victor Fox Legacy set Strensall task

Glasgow Times06-08-2025
The former Sir Michael Stoute inmate has improved dramatically this season, rising from a rating of 90 to a lofty 116, and proved his liking for York when winning the John Smith's Cup. He then won what looked a tight nine-furlong conditions race at Goodwood by five and a half lengths.
'As long as all is OK he will probably go to the Strensall,' said Alastair Donald, racing manager for owners King Power Racing.
'There are international options after that, places like Bahrain, and he has been put in the Champion Stakes as well.
'In the Hunt Cup he didn't have a great draw and in hindsight Oisin (Murphy) said he didn't go fast enough that day to bring his stamina into it, so I don't think we'll be going back to a mile again.
'I think 10 furlongs is his trip. He ran over a mile and a half for Sir Michael, he probably didn't stay it but it wouldn't be crazy to think that at some point in the future he'd try it again.
'The joy of him is that he goes on all ground which makes life a lot easier to plan.
'He was really impressive at Goodwood and had that race been 10 furlongs, who knows how far he might have won.'

Brighton footballers on path to winning MILLIONS after paying £40,000 to supplement their superstar horse into York race

BRIGHTON players including Premier League legend James Milner are a step closer to winning MILLIONS with their superstar horse Seagulls Eleven. Together they have stumped up £40,000 to supplement the horse into Saturday's Group 1 City Of York Stakes. 2 The mega-money race, worth £377,000 to the winner, is one of the biggest in Ebor week at the northern track with decent prize money all the way down to sixth. Seagulls Eleven, a three-year-old gelding trained by Hugo Palmer who cost around £50,000, has won two of his ten career races, bringing in just shy of £170,000. But his next few races could send his winnings into the stratosphere. Seagulls Eleven, who won more than £57,000 with his most recent victory, a Group 3 at Goodwood earlier this month, is one of 13 in the City Of York. He is likely to face Group 1 scorer Rosallion and 150-1 record winner Qirat, who returns after his unbelievable Sussex Stakes victory. Big names including John & Thady Gosden's former Lockinge winner Audience and Juddmonte's Cosmic Year are also in the line-up. But the races under a mile have been a lottery this season so anything could happen when they jump out this weekend. And while the cheque on offer at York is massive - far, far greater riches could lie in wait later this year. After his Goodwood win, Palmer said the £7.4million Golden Eagle in Australia in November was on the agenda. Interestingly, Brighton owner Tony Bloom won the race last year with Lake Forest and walked off an incredible £2.8m richer. Palmer said after Seagulls Eleven won at Goodwood that he would likely be supplemented for the City Of York. And the plan then would be, rather than race at Doncaster and Ascot later this year, to enter quarantine ahead of a trip Down Under. Speaking of how it all came about, Palmer, who trains football legend Michael Owen's horses, said: "It actually all started at Cheltenham. "There was a mare called Mrs Milner and Michael suggested to James Milner that he back it. "He did and it went from there. "They've bought a few horses and James is the ringleader. There are eleven players, who aren't all at Brighton anymore." Goalkeeper Jason Steele is another involved with Seagulls Eleven - and he can't wait to see what the future holds. He said: "It is up to Hugo and the team at Manor House Stables if he goes out to Australia, but the thought of him running there is amazing. "We have briefly spoken about it in our group chat and Hugo is going to find out more and whatever they want to do, I imagine the lads will support it. "We have a lot of ties with the Golden Eagle with our chairman Tony Bloom winning it last year with Lake Forest. "That would be a nice story to go over there and follow that up. 'To say we have owned a horse that has already run at the Curragh, and in America, and potentially Australia is unbelievable." Top owner removes Hollie Doyle from all rides with immediate effect and replaces her with Oisin Murphy

A TOP racehorse owner has removed Hollie Doyle from all her rides with immediate effect - and replaced her with Oisin Murphy. Trailblazing rider Doyle, 28, has lost the high-profile gig as retained rider to Imad Alsagar. 1 She had three Group 1 wins - Prix de Diane, Nassau Stakes and the Falmouth - on his stable star Nashwa, winning just shy of £1.7million together, and 38 wins for the Kuwait-born owner in all. But Doyle, who had been in the role since 2020, has been replaced immediately with four-time champion jockey Murphy. He rides Alsagar's Gamrai at Windsor tonight and will pilot outsider May Angel in the Group 3 Acomb Stakes at York on Wednesday. Murphy, who last month was hit with a £70,000 drink-driving fine and ban, will also ride 7-2 fav Zgharta in a fillies' handicap at York on Friday. Teddy Grimthorpe, Alsagar's racing manager, told the Racing Post that Doyle, who has more than 1,000 career wins and £17.1m in prize money, had officially lost the gig last Friday. Explaining the thinking behind the decision, he said: "It's a change of strategy. "We've had some wonderful years with Hollie and Imad wanted to have a bit of a change. "Our relationship with her is still strong and I hope it will continue to be so. "Oisin will be the way forward when available. "Oisin is contracted to Qatar Racing and Prince Faisal so I'd imagine we'd be third down. "We've had a great time with Hollie but we felt it was time for a change." Aidan O'Brien pulls ‘amazing' horse from £1.2million Juddmonte after odds collapse in ‘surprising and rapid' market move

AIDAN O'BRIEN has pulled 'amazing' filly Whirl from the £1.25million Juddmonte International - after her odds collapsed in a head-scratching market move. The Ballydoyle boss' long-time ante-post fav Delacroix was a worrying drifter in the markets on Sunday afternoon. 1 He went all the way out to 6-1 - and 13-1 on the Betfair Exchange - having been 7-4 as his stablemate was hammered into 4-1 from 16s. The writing looked on the wall for the Coral-Eclipse winner as punters gave up hope of a rematch with John & Thady Gosden's Ombudsman. But just as it looked like the field was set, O'Brien declared Delacroix and left Whirl out of the York Ebor festival feature. The massive upheavel in the markets meant some cashed out bets on Delacroix believing he would be a non-runner. While those who followed the gamble on Whirl were left with 'burned fingers' after she wasn't declared. Coral couldn't split the two leaders, having Delacroix and Ombudsman both 15-8. The firm's David Stevens said: "Ombudsman had claimed outright favouritism for the race over the weekend, but with his Coral-Eclipse conqueror, Delacroix, the only Ballydoyle challenger declared for the race, the younger colt has rejoined his older rival at the head of the market."
