What Jurgen Klopp said about Jarrod Bowen as West Ham star hands Liverpool title boost
Liverpool has been handed the initiative once more in the title race after West Ham stunned Arsenal at the Emirates. Mikel Arteta's side went into the encounter knowing three points would close the gap to Liverpool to five points.
The Reds take on Manchester City on Sunday and this weekend looked set to be a pivotal one in the title race. And it will be just that, with Liverpool now having the opportunity to go 11 clear with victory at the Etihad.
Jarrod Bowen scored the only goal of the game for the Hammers, who hung on to claim all three points. The visitors' task was made easier after Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly was shown a red card after tripping Mohamed Kudus.

Bowen has been linked with a move to Liverpool in the past and remains one of the best players in the Premier League, outside of the top six. And former Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was also a huge fan.
Speaking ahead of a Carabao Cup clash with the Hammers last season, the then-Liverpool manager was fulsome in his praise of the 27-year-old. 'Playing without [Michail] Antonio, and Bowen steps up in that position — probably my favorite player besides my players,' Klopp said (via This Is Anfield). 'It's just great what he's doing and how he develops.'
Those comments followed a stream of previous compliments from the former Liverpool boss too. 'I like Bowen a lot,' he said in November 2021. 'He made his way up from, was it Hull, if I'm right? And took not too long to get there, to show exactly what kind of player he can be in the Premier League as well, made big steps,' added Klopp.
A few months later, he was at it again. 'Bowen, what a player he became, unbelievable! 'We saw him as well at Hull and he was really good that time, but I'm not sure a lot of people expected this jump. Unbelievable player,' Klopp effused.
His fondness for the winger was even mentioned in Pep Lijnders' book, Intensity. In a team meeting ahead of a clash at the London Stadium in 2021/22, Klopp pinpointed West Ham's key players, noting: 'they signed Jarrod Bowen, the Mo Salah of the Championship.' High praise indeed.

The clubs most LIKELY to sign Liverpool star who 'lacks intensity'
The clubs most LIKELY to sign Liverpool star who 'lacks intensity' Liverpool have a big decision to make over Harvey Elliott during this summer's transfer window. The playmaker only made two Premier League starts for the champions last season - both of which came after the title was wrapped up. Arne Slot simply did not trust the 22-year-old in the biggest moments and that treatment has led to a discussion over the England under-21 international's future. Advertisement Elliott is under contract until 2027 and there is little prospect of him signing a new deal with his minutes so restricted. There is believed to be Premier League interest from Nottingham Forest, Newcastle and Wolves, but Elliott has so far issued no preference on his next move. Back in January it was also speculated that Borussia Dortmund and Brighton were interested in the out-of-favour creative midfielder. Sporting director Richard Hughes is believed to value Elliott at £40m to £50m - and he could be sacrificed this summer if the right bid materialises. Elliott 'lacks intensity' Now comes a report in Football Insider, which appears to seal Elliott's fate. Advertisement The player does not possess the right out-of-possession characteristics to hold down a place in Arne Slot's team, according to the report, with Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai far ahead of him in the pecking order. 'Liverpool's coaches are said to believe the 22-year-old lacks the intensity off the ball required to fit into their playing style on a regular basis and be a nailed-on starter,' the report reads. And, accordingly, a move to Serie A might be on the cards for the former Fulham man. © IMAGO Will Elliott move to Italy? 'Harvey Elliott is most likely to join a Serie A club if he leaves Liverpool this summer,' the report states. Advertisement 'Elliott's game would be better suited to Serie A, and there is believed to be early interest from two leading Italian clubs. 'Clubs in Germany's Bundesliga are also understood to be monitoring the left-footed star's situation.' The names of the clubs involved are not disclosed in the report.

Hansi Flick recommends free agent attacker signing to Barcelona
Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick is eyeing a free agent addition to his attacking ranks this summer. That's according to Mundo Deportivo, citing German outlet BILD, who point towards Ivan Perišić as the player in question. Advertisement Veteran winger Perišić, for his part, is a player familiar to Barcelona boss Flick. The pair spent a season together in Germany at Bayern Munich, with the Croatian understood to have left a positive impression on his then-manager. Despite his advancing years – Perišić is now 36 – he enjoyed an altogether productive campaign on the books of Dutch heavyweights PSV Eindhoven this past season. All told, in 39 appearances across all competitions, the former Inter Milan man racked up 16 goals, and 11 assists. And such production, it is understood, has not gone unnoticed on the part of those at Barcelona… Advertisement As per MD, amid an ongoing search for reinforcements out wide for 2025/26: 'In Germany, the Bild newspaper is reporting that Hansi Flick would like to sign Ivan Perišić, who is now a free agent.' Any move for the Croatian international would not have an impact on Barca's pursuit of Liverpool star Luis Díaz. Conor Laird – GSFN
