Same Pak officer facilitated visa for UP man and Haryana YouTuber? ATS connecting the dots
LUCKNOW Pakistan high commission officer Ehsan-Ur-Rehman alias Danish, who is said to have facilitated a Pakistani visa for Haryana YouTuber Jyoti Mehrotra, arrested recently over espionage charges from Hisar, may also have arranged a visa for Shahzad Wahab, 35, the alleged ISI agent in UP's Rampur nabbed from Moradabad on Sunday, said ATS officials.
Wahab, a resident of Rampur, was apprehended by the UP Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) on Sunday night, following inputs about his alleged involvement in cross-border smuggling and espionage activities for the ISI. He travelled to Pakistan several times over the years and was allegedly smuggling cosmetics, clothes, spices, and other items across the border.
So far, 14 people had been arrested in multiple north Indian states over the past two weeks — including four in Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh — for allegedly sharing sensitive information with Pakistani operatives.
'Shahzad Wahab visited Lahore twice after his visa was cleared by Pakistan High Commission office in New Delhi where Danish remained posted since 2023. His call records confirmed that he was in touch with Danish. However, Wahab will be interrogated further about his proximity with Danish,' stated an ATS official.
He said Danish introduced Wahab to an ISI handler, who later utilized him to arrange different things including money, Indian SIM cards for other agents. The ISI handler also asked Wahab to identify people, who could be turned into agents to spy for the Pakistan secret agency and share vital information related to internal security of India.
The ATS official had earlier confirmed that 20 people, including three women, were recruited by Wahad to spy for ISI and provided them funds on ISI handlers' instructions. The ATS launched a hunt to trace people introduced by Wahab to ISI handlers.
Another police official said Wahab's mobile phone details revealed that he was in constant touch with ISI operatives in Pakistan and shared information related to activities in India before and after the Pahalgam attack.

EC to cancel EPIC of Afghan nationals living illegally in Patna house
Lucknow: Following TOI's May 29 report about a house in Patna that allegedly became a hotbed for immigrants with multiple fake Indian identity cards, the Election Commission of India is set to remove their elector's photo identity card (EPIC) from the electoral roll. The move is significant as Bihar assembly polls are around the corner. Jandullah Dad Mohammad, an Afghan national from Paktika province, was living at Patna's Wakil Anwer House, impersonating as Rehan, son of Kabir, alongside his brother Mansur. After entering India on a six-day medical visa in December 2019, Jandullah went off the radar in Delhi. By 2020, he had managed to obtain a complete set of fake Indian identity documents. His EPIC (AFS3853934), Indian passport (C6978659), Aadhaar card (322874855132), PAN card (ETXPR8222K), driving license (BR0120210005369), SBI bank passbook (39914603822), Patna Municipal Corporation issued birth certificate (B-2019 10-90097 025254), and even a ration card painted a convincing picture of an Indian citizen. "We are now preparing to revoke the EPIC issued in the name of Rehan," said electoral registration officer (ERO) Raghvendra Pratap Singh. The accused foreign national is currently lodged in Lucknow jail after being caught by the Bureau of Immigration from Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport on May 19. The ECI's consolidated electoral list, published on Jan 7, 2025, under a special summary revision, revealed that the Wakil Anwer House has 12 male occupants, all in their 20s and 30s except one, with no women registered. At least four of them shared identical details: Same age, same father's name (Kabir), and EPICs. Kabir's real identity has been established as Dad Mohammad Khan. His elder son Mansur, who left for Dubai more than six months ago, is registered in electoral roll with two EPICs AFS4130290, AFS4127999. Another resident, Mohammad Sher Khan, also had dual EPICs AFS4129953 and AFS4125266. "Currently, Kabir is missing from Wakil Anwer House, with no confirmation of his existence, though locals confirm his presence in Patna 7-8 years ago. We have cancelled Mansur's and Mohammad Sher Khan's EPICs... One individual cannot have two EPICs," said ERO Raghvendra. He added, "The owner of Wakil Anwer House has not returned to Patna from New Delhi till date. He has now assured to be back around June 9, following which he would furnish details of everyone living in his property."

A day after conviction, Abbasdisqualified from UP Assembly
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh assembly secretariat administration on Sunday terminated the membership Mau MLA Abbas Ansari, a day after he was awarded a two-year sentence in a 2022 hate speech case. Abbas, son of late mafia don Mukhtar Ansari, had been elected on a Suheldev Bahujan Samaj Party (SBSP) ticket. Making special arrangements on Sunday, the secretariat administration opened its office especially to prepare the disqualification order citing the court order and informed the MLA who was out on interim bail about it. With the seat getting vacant, a bypoll would be conducted to elect an MLA from Mau in the coming months. Principal secretary of the secretariat administration department, Pradeep Dubey, forwarded the letter to governor, district magistrate of Mau, chief electoral officer of UP, heads of all the government departments to take note of the disqualification. Taking note of the hate speech made by Ansari and having gone through the evidence presented by the prosecution, the special MP-MLA court in Mau on Saturday convicted the MLA under IPC sections 153A, 189 and 506 for promoting hatred and enmity between different groups, threatening a public servant and criminal intimidation. As the hate speech was made ahead of the polls, section 171F of the IPC was also pressed which is registered if an individual attempts to influence the voters in an undue manner. A fine of Rs 2,000 was also imposed while Ansari's election agent, too, was booked under the said section. He invited trouble when he threatened the local govt officials from a public meeting dais in the Paharpur area of Mau Sadr on March 3, 2022. Addressing an election rally on March 3, 2022, Abbas, who was an SP member but was contesting on an SBSP ticket, had said: "After the formation of the SP-led govt, the officials would have to give 'hisab-kitab' (account) of their work of the past regime before getting transferred." Ansari had won the Mau assembly seat with a margin of close to 38,000 votes. During a surprise raid conducted in Chitrakoot jail in February 2023, Ansari was found to be enjoying special treatment post which he was transferred to Kasganj. He got interim bail from the Supreme Court in Feb this year.
