Toilet seat stains will disappear in seconds with 1 'game-changing' item

Daily Mirror01-07-2025
A stained toilet can harbour germs and mould, but one cleaning expert shared the ultimate item to use in the battle against toilet seat stains
A stained loo can not only lead to red faces but also infections from the lurking germs and mould. Experts recommend giving your toilet a thorough scrub every few days, which should include a good disinfection of the seat, the exterior, and all other nooks and crannies.
To ensure a spotless and hygienic lavatory free from germs and foul smells, it's crucial to eradicate any stains, dirt, and mould. Cleaning mould may be straightforward, but shifting stubborn stains might require a bit more elbow grease.

However, the specialists at Bliss Cleaning Co. have shared the ultimate cleaning sensation. Bliss Cleaning Co took to their Facebook page to show off how a humble Magic Eraser can make your toilet seat's blemishes vanish in a flash in an easy-to-follow video demonstration, reports the Express.

They said: "Toilet looking rough? Grab a Magic Eraser and watch those stains disappear. Quick. Easy. Satisfying."
The remarkably simple yet effective video sees a grubby toilet seat being scrubbed with a Magic Eraser, resulting in immediate stain removal. Even for seats that have seen better days, this method promises a gleaming finish in under half a minute.
Ecstatic with the results, Facebook user Fleur Hogan commented below the video: "Thanks for this tip, really is a game changer."
Magic Erasers are, in essence, just sponges made of melamine foam which, when combined with water, can tackle tough stains with ease.
They function like super-fine sandpaper due to their hard microstructure. The open-cell structure of melamine foam enables it to lift and trap dirt within its cavities, making it an efficient and chemical-free cleaning tool.
While potent for removing stains, Magic Erasers wear out quickly, akin to pencil erasers, due to their abrasive nature and the mechanical action required during cleaning.
They're very simple to use, just dampen slightly, and use small circular motions until the stain fades, then wash the surface clean to remove any residue.

Areas of UK put on 'high alert' over 'country's most dangerous spider'

The noble false widow is Britain's most venomous spider and often blamed for a growing number of bite incidents. Here are the six areas on high alert for the spider Six UK cities and countries are on high alert as venomous spiders begin to invade homes this August. Spider season is officially here, with reports of massive spiders sneaking into homes already circulating across the nation. ‌ Typically, spider season kicks off in late August as the warm weather begins to wane, but any day now, spiders will start appearing uninvited in our homes, a trend that's expected to continue until October. ‌ False widow spiders, known as the UK's most dangerous spider, are causing concern. The noble false widow, Britain's most venomous spider, is often blamed for an increasing number of bite incidents. While most bites are mild, some can lead to swelling, pain and, in rare instances, severe infection. In other news, Brits are told to never put one banned item in garden bins as you could face punishment. ‌ These spiders are commonly found in window corners, sheds, garages and undisturbed indoor spaces. They flourish in warm environments and are now widespread in parts of southern England, reports the Express. Steatoda bipunctata, also known as the rabbit hutch spider Steatoda grossa, also known as the cupboard spider Steatoda nobilis, also known as the noble false widow In one extreme case from Berkshire, personal trainer Ivan Savage nearly lost his life in 2023 after being bitten by a false widow in his home. He was hospitalised with sepsis and required emergency surgery after pest control found over 500 false widows inside the property. Although fatalities are extremely rare, a 60 year old woman in Hampshire died in 2014 after developing sepsis believed to be linked to a false widow bite - making it one of the UK's only confirmed fatal cases. ‌ Dr Tom Elwood, an arachnology expert at Quote My Wall, has warned that six UK areas are currently on 'high alert' for false widow spiders. These are: Bristol Essex Devon Kent London Norfolk He stated: "The spiders don't wait until autumn. They're already active now - and if you've got poorly maintained windows, you're giving them easy access." It's important to act immediately to prevent them from marking territory in your home given they are most active and visible from July to November. Don't worry if you're afraid of spiders; by following these simple instructions, you'll be keeping False Widow spiders and other insects far from you.

Make your sausages tastier and juicier by adding this common ingredient

This common kitchen cupboard staple will improve the taste of your breakfast. Sausages are a staple of the British breakfast, but they're just as tasty when stuffed into a sandwich or even topped with mashed potato. Whatever way you enjoy them, the most important thing is making sure they are cooked to perfection. ‌ Sausages, also known as bangers, can be cooked in various ways, but many people believe a substantial amount of oil is necessary to make them taste better. However, using lots of oil can make a mess and add a hefty amount of calories to your meal. ‌ Express reporter Katherine McPhillips believes she has discovered a simple cooking technique that makes sausages really juicy and tasty without needing to fry them. All you need is a stock cube. ‌ She said: "It might sound bizarre, but poaching sausages in a little water with a stock cube before crisping them up in the oven adds so more flavour to them. "Cooking with oil is traditional but not necessary, as sausages already contain a lot of fat, and cooking them in oil tends to burn the skin while the inside is not cooked properly. ‌ "The high heat from frying can also cause sausages to split open, making them awkward to eat. Poaching sausages with a stock cube first allows them to cook gently and evenly, ensuring the inside is fully cooked without drying it out." Katherine then recommends placing the sausages in the oven to crisp up until they are golden brown. They will still be really juicy and flavourful. This simple cooking method takes less than five minutes and makes sausages so much tastier that I can no longer imagine going back to frying them in oil. ‌ How to make tastier sausages All you need to do is fill a frying pan less than halfway with water. You can want enough for the sausages to cook in, but do not cover them completely. Add a stock cube to the water and heat on high until it begins to boil. Then, line a tray with baking paper and preheat the oven to 200 °C. Place your sausages in the frying pan, and let them simmer for two minutes. You usually need just one minute to poach one side, and then flip them. ‌ Once the sausages have been poached, quickly place them in the tray and put them in the oven. When moving them, try to avoid piercing the skin with a fork, as this will cause all the juices to leak out. Let the sausages cook for roughly 15 to 20 minutes. When ready, they will be perfectly crisp and taste incredible when you bite into them. Experts at Home Niches also recently suggested swapping oil for butter in the pan to elevate how your sausages taste. They said: "Butter adds a rich and creamy flavour to sausages that is hard to replicate with other cooking methods. "The fat content in butter helps to keep the sausages moist and juicy, while the milk solids in butter caramelise and create a golden-brown crust on the surface of the sausages."

Dog expert reveals how long you should really walk your dog each day

Dog experts have settled a long standing debate on the minimum amount of exercise you should give your dog per day. As a dog owner, taking your four legged friend out for a walk every day is non-negotiable as it is essential our furry friends are getting a sufficient amount of exercise. But how long should you actually be walking your dog for according to the experts and government advice? ‌ Most pet owners are likely to decide how long their dog gets outside based on a number of factors. For example, their age, health, size and breed are all likely to play a part in this decision. ‌ However, the choice ultimately comes down to the owner. Dog experts at The Kennel Club have now offered their advice in the debate about how long dog owners should walk their pets for. They said: "Every dog should have at least one walk a day, often two, given that in some circumstances, under veterinary advice, the dog should be rested. ‌ "The Government recommends that we get at least 30 minutes of exercise each day, and this is something that everybody can achieve - and go beyond - on a daily dog walk. "The amount of exercise your dog needs will vary according to its breed, but every dog should have at least one walk a day, often two." ‌ The dog experts also advised that walking distance will be different for puppies and fully grown dogs, the Express reports. They explained that puppies need less 'formal' exercise and therefore long walks "can overtire them." While the amount of exercise your dog can manage varies between breeds and the health of your dog, they did give a rule of thumb that can help determine how much exercise is required for your pooch. ‌ According to The Kennel Club, the ideal amount is "five minutes of formal exercise per month of age (up to twice a day) until the puppy is fully grown i.e., 15 minutes (up to twice a day) when three months old, 20 minutes when four months old and so on. They added: "As they become older, they'll be able to cope with larger amounts of exercise". Veterinary doctor Nicole Rous backed this up in a TikTok video where she explained: "The rules are different for puppies and for adult dogs. There is a great rule of thumb for puppies - it's five minutes per month of life, and you can do this twice a day." ‌ Dr Nicole added: "So, if you have a four-month-old puppy, four times five is 20, you're looking at exercising for 20 minutes twice a day. That includes walks and things like that, but it also includes exercise in the back yard and games you're playing. "Adult dogs average 30 to 60 minutes a day, but this one's variable. So, if you've got a really active breed like a Border Collie, you're probably looking at one to two hours. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! "If you've got a more sedentary breed, you might be looking at two 20 minute walks a day rather than the full hour. Now, for senior dogs, we're at a similar level - 30 to 60 minutes, but the type of exercise is really important to look after their joints. "We want to look at low impact exercise, so walks, look at the surface you're walking on and then consider things like hydrotherapy - that's a really good exercise for the oldies to include in their regime." Dr Nicole stressed the crucial importance of maintaining exercise for dogs as they age to keep their minds active. The advice has resonated with numerous dog owners, as they were quick to share their own stories.
