Axis Max Life Insurance plans to list its stock directly
ADVERTISEMENT Axis Max Life, currently owned jointly by Axis Bank and Max Financial Services, operates under a quasi-listed structure, where the parent companies are publicly traded but the insurance business is not directly listed. Tripathy said the structure is "suboptimal" and that collapsing it into a single listed entity would create better visibility and investor confidence.
The move comes amid a regulatory push to bring more insurers to the public markets to improve governance and deepen investor participation. The Insurance Laws (Amendment) Bill, once approved, is expected to ease listing norms for companies like Axis Max Life.
While preparing for its public debut, Axis Max Life is focusing on growth well above the industry average. For FY25, the company reported a 20% increase in total new business, compared with 15% for the private life insurance sector.The insurer has delivered 18% compound annual growth over the past two years, double the industry average, Tripathy said."We aim to grow 300 to 400 basis points ahead of the private sector this year as well," he added. In April, the insurer posted a 24% rise in new business, compared to 2% for the rest of the private industry.

The company's proprietary distribution channels grew 30% in the last fiscal year, while bank-led channels expanded 13%. Axis Max Life's market share in the private life space now stands at 9.8%, up 37 basis points. Axis Bank entities, which own close to 19.99% in the insurance company, have seen contribution to the business income fall to 10-11%. Tripathy said, the insurer is expecting it to pick up to 14-15%.
ADVERTISEMENT Axis Max Life is targeting value of new business (VNB) margins in the range of 24-25%, balancing profitability with growth. "Our stated position has always been to work with target margins and then drive growth. We're not trying to be a 27-28% margin company. Our margin corridor is between 24-25%, and then we focus on growth. We landed at 24%. Hopefully, if we do better margins, our VNB growth will be more than the sales growth. About 24-25% is the corridor," Tripathy said.The insurer has implemented deferred commission structures to increase persistence following regulatory changes around agent incentives, avoiding clawbacks.

The non-PAR segment, which slowed down last year, is expected to pick up. "My expectation is that non-PAR will also be start to grow, especially from our side. We sold more ULIPs last year, and of the total mix of about 46% were ULIPs. This year, non-par should increase by 3-4% and par should increase," he said.

State pushes jatropha, ethanol to boost green energy
1 2 Patna: With World Biofuel Day falling on Sunday, residents of the city may recall the late President A P J Abdul Kalam's convocation address at Patna University nearly two decades ago in which he urged the promotion of jatropha plantations and rural biofuel enterprises to meet Bihar's energy needs. Delivering his address at the city's S K Memorial Hall on Dec 30, 2005, Kalam recommended using "chour" land (wetlands) for jatropha cultivation. "Biofuel plants grown in 11 million hectares of wasteland can yield a revenue of Rs 20,000 crore a year and provide employment to over 12 million people, both for plantation and running the oil extraction units," he had said. Although Patna University scientists did not initiate a dedicated project to boost the agricultural production of this biofuel plant in the state, agricultural experts identified 13 districts as suitable for cultivation. Farmers in at least Purnia and Kaimur districts are already growing jatropha commercially, according to Patna University botany department head Birendra Prasad. Prasad added that jatropha, known in Hindi as 'Ratan jot', is among the best sources for biodiesel production. "Besides jatropha, other plants like maize and sugar cane are also being used for the production of ethanol. Delhi Assembly's maiden paperless session conducted 19-hour legislative deliberations: Speaker
New Delhi: Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Saturday said that the maiden paperless session of the House concluded after legislative deliberations which lasted 19 hours and 40 minutes and included passage of key Education and GST Bills. 'The Third session of Eighth Legislative Assembly concluded, total matters discussed in 19 hours and 40 minutes,' said Gupta while addressing the media. The session commenced on August 4 and was adjourned sine die on August 8 after five sittings, he said. Gupta stated that summons for the session were issued on July 28 and the sittings were held on August 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. He stated that the House conducted extensive deliberations on legislative, financial, and public welfare matters during this period. During this period, 171 Special Mention notices were received under Rule 280, of which 62 matters were raised on the floor of the House. Gupta said that these matters, covering a wide range of civic, administrative, and policy concerns, have been referred to the departments concerned with directions to furnish replies to the members within 30 days. He added that three significant legislations were passed during the session. These included The Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees) Bill, 2025, introduced by Ashish Sood, Minister of Education, which was discussed over two days with participation from 24 members before being passed by voice vote. These included the Finance and Appropriation Accounts of GNCTD for 2023–24, the reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India on Finance and Appropriation Accounts, State Finances, and Welfare of Building and Other Construction Workers. He said reports from regulatory and educational bodies such as the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission, Geospatial Delhi Ltd., Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University Delhi were also laid on the table. He informed that the CAG report on the welfare of construction workers was referred to the Public Accounts Committee for further examination. The Speaker informed that the House passed congratulatory motions under Rule 114 to honour astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla for his mission to the International Space Station and to mark the launch of the NISAR satellite on July 28. He said during the sittings congratulations were extended to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and the armed forces, security agencies, and intelligence agencies for the successful execution of Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev. He said that a total of 20 members participated in the related discussion, including Abhay Verma, Chief Whip, and the Chief Minister.
