Hero MotoCorp, the world's largest two-wheeler manufacturer, had a robust July 2025, dispatching nearly 4.5 lakh (449,755) motorcycles and scooters—a solid 21 per cent jump compared to July last year. This strong showing aligns with retail momentum observed in both urban and rural regions, and with the festive season approaching, the company anticipates continued growth.
In terms of retail, Hero recorded over 3.39 lakh registrations on the VAHAN portal (excluding Telangana), signaling healthy demand across the country. The company's scooter portfolio, especially the Destini 125 and Xoom 125, contributed significantly to this performance by gaining market share.

The newly launched Vida e-scooter VX2, branded as 'Badalte India ka Scooter," has been particularly well-received. Its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model has made EV ownership more accessible and flexible, boosting consumer interest.
Hero MotoCorp's global business also saw strong traction, clocking 37,358 units in exports—well ahead of industry growth trends. This reinforces Hero's growing international footprint and commitment to delivering advanced, reliable mobility solutions worldwide.

Nifty Technical Analysis | Daily & Hourly On 7 August, the Nifty closed marginally higher at 24,596.15, up 21.95 points, or 0.09%, indicating a modest intraday recovery. However, this minor uptick does little to alter the broader corrective trend that has dominated recent sessions. The index continues to face strong resistance at key levels, and the overall structure remains weak and susceptible to further downside pressure. Technically, the Nifty is still trading below its key short-term moving averages. Both the 20-day SMA and the 40-day EMA are placed at 24,911, and the index has so far failed to reclaim these levels. Even on the intraday charts, the Nifty is trading below the 20-hour SMA at 24,626 and the 40-hour EMA at 24,566, highlighting persistent selling pressure on any minor upticks. As long as the index remains below these averages, the directional bias remains neutral to negative. Momentum indicators continue to signal weakness. The daily RSI has slipped to 39, indicating a lack of bullish momentum, while the MACD remains deep in negative territory at -141, with no signs of a bullish crossover. On the hourly chart, there are minor signs of improvement: the hourly RSI has ticked up to 53, and the MACD has inched higher to -46, but these are not convincing enough to suggest a trend reversal. Overall, the momentum setup supports the view that any current bounce is likely corrective and not a signal of a sustainable turnaround. From a derivatives perspective, the broader trend still leans bearish. The total Call open interest (OI) stands at 20.22 crore, significantly higher than the Put OI of 16.44 crore, keeping the put-call ratio (PCR) suppressed at 0.81. However, the change in OI tells a slightly different story — while Call OI rose by 43.53 lakh, Put OI jumped by 4.50 crore, resulting in a net bullish OI change of 4.06 crore contracts. This could indicate that some traders are beginning to hedge for a potential bounce or are covering shorts. Still, the heavier Call OI continues to cap the upside. Strike-specific positioning also provides important cues. The 24,600 strike holds both the highest Call OI and the highest Call additions, confirming it as a strong resistance zone. On the other hand, the 24,550 strike has emerged as the maximum Put OI and saw the most Put additions, suggesting an effort to defend this support level. But with the Nifty closing only slightly above it, any weakness from here could jeopardize this support and expose the index to further losses. In summary, Nifty remains in a fragile and corrective phase with no clear signs of a sustainable recovery yet. The inability to reclaim short-term moving averages and the overall bearish structure in the options data continue to weigh on sentiment. The 24,911–25,000 zone remains a key barrier — only a decisive close above this region could tilt the trend back toward bullish. Until that happens, any move higher should be seen as a temporary pullback within a larger downtrend. Immediate support lies at 24,550–24,450, and a breakdown below this zone could lead to a deeper correction towards 24,000, where an unfilled gap still remains. For traders, the strategy remains to adopt a sell-on-rise approach, particularly near resistance levels like 24,600–24,700. Avoid initiating aggressive long positions unless the Nifty manages to close above 25,000 with strength and volume. The current environment remains cautious and tactical, with traders needing to monitor key levels closely for either signs of bottom formation or renewed breakdown. Mumbai: Life Insurance Corp (LIC), the second largest government asset by market value, reported a 5% increase in its net profit to ₹10,986 crore, as moderating capital gains from equity sales through a volatile June quarter offset a robust core operating performance. Fiscal Q1 net trailed Bloomberg estimates of ₹11,100 crore. "The slowdown in net profit growth is mainly due to lower capital gains from equity markets. However, the core insurance operating profit remains strong," LIC MD & CEO R Doraiswamy said in a post-earnings call. The yield on policyholders' funds (excluding unrealized gains) declined to 8.45% in Q1 FY26 from 8.54% in Q1 FY25. LIC booked 15% growth in equity market profits on quarter. Its total equity market sales were upwards of ₹50,000 crore. The value of new business (VNB) rose 20.75% to ₹1,944 crore, while the VNB margin went up by 150 basis points to 15.4%. Doraiswamy attributed the margin boost to product changes and other initiatives. "Our margin improved to 15.4% in Q1, up from 13.9%, primarily due to a rise in non-par business, which now stands at 30.34%," said Doraiswamy. "Several interventions contributed including product modifications, changes in margin structures, and revisions in minimum ticket sizes and premiums to improve persistence." Annualised premium equivalent (APE) rose 9.45% year-on-year to ₹12,652 crore. The share of non-participating (non-par) APE within individual business jumped to 30.34%, up from 23.94% in the same period last year, as the insurer continued to boost non-par business post-IPO. Live Events "Since the IPO, the focus has been on scaling up non-par," said LIC Managing Director Dinesh Pant. "Non-par share has climbed from just 7% at the time of listing to 30% now." The company has not introduced new participating products since the IPO but now plans to develop the segment with an expected growth rate of 5-10%, he said. Pant said that while LIC is operating within a 40-60% non-par to non-par directional mix, this will continue to evolve based on market conditions and profitability. Persistency ratios, a key metric of policy renewals, dropped to 75.63% for the 13th month against 78.23% and rose to 63.85% from 61.62% for the 61st month on a premium basis. Short-term persistence saw some decline, largely driven by lapses in lower ticket-size policies sold under the earlier regulatory regime. "Many of these are revived later," an LIC executive said. On health insurance front, LIC said it is still exploring options for its proposed health insurance joint venture. How Honda rebuilt its 2-wheeler brand in India after the Hero divorce

Since the time it parted ways with Hero nearly 15 years ago, Honda has been relentless in pursuing its goal of taking over as India's leading two-wheeler maker. However, it has not been able to dislodge its former ally from the top slot even while scoring brownie points in some months, including July this year, where its numbers were higher. However, what is even more interesting are the experiences of the Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India ( HMSI ) teams from Japan during the years following the divorce with Hero when they pulled out all the stops to boost their business and gain market share. These stories have been put together as a fast-paced narrative on the Honda website. At the time of going solo, Hero had a vice-like grip in the motorcycle segment powered by the Splendor and Passion brands. HMSI's big success story was in scooters thanks to the Activa while it was lagging behind in motorcycles despite promising products like Unicorn. 'In expanding into the Indian motorcycle market, increasing sales of motorcycles, which account for the majority of the market, was essential, and this required extraordinary efforts on the ground,' states Honda in its narrative. Primary mission The market share of 70% in the Hero Honda alliance now dropped to just about 10% for HMSI alone. Reclaiming the top spot within three years became its primary mission. Consequently, staff with extensive on-site experience were selected and despatched as expat representatives to offices in each region to implement strategies tailored to regional characteristics. The materials compiled from various marketing data for each region and zones (district) linked to the region became thick books known as 'phone books'. Several versions of these phone books were then created for each region and zone. Based on these, strategies and execution plans were gradually implemented by associates and dealers, leading to sales results in the Top 35 regions and other areas. Brand confusion After the joint venture with Hero Group was dissolved, scooter sales remained strong in urban areas. However, in the central and northeast regions, where motorcycle demand was high, the perception that Honda and Hero were synonymous remained deeply rooted within the market, and many consumers continued to confuse the brands. In response, Honda launched its 'Honda is Honda' strategy to re-establish the brand's market presence and regain consumer trust. The company kicked off various initiatives to enhance brand recognition. These included installation of Honda signages at dealerships, screening iconic videos featuring F1 cars and large motorcycles to convey the Honda brand worldview, wrapping buses and trains, and producing commercials featuring popular Hindi film star, Akshay Kumar. Honda had few dealerships in India then and it was imperative to increase its presence nationwide to ensure that customers could purchase motorcycles wherever they wanted. Honda's motorcycle business was attractive to dealership owners and the number of dealerships increased, beyond those directly contracted with Honda, to sub-dealers without direct contracts and secondary dealers that only handled parts sales and services. The company actively opened stores in areas where there were no self-owned dealerships. It continued its efforts to open one new dealership everyday, expanding the number from approximately 800 in 2010 to more than 5,000 in 2017. The goal was to make Honda dealerships the place where customers would purchase motorcycles, return for maintenance and parts replacement, and replace their old motorcycles. Rural drive The biggest challenge was expanding into rural areas and staff stationed in India agree that the 'Rural Strategy,' an aggressive expansion into the most conservative rural areas of India, was the most gruelling of all. In the early to mid-2010s, scooters accounted for approximately 25% of motorcycle sales in India, with the balance being motorcycles which sold well in rural areas. At the time, Honda was focusing its store expansion in urban India, leaving rural areas with few dealerships. To gain market share, it decided to rapidly expand into rural zones with high demand for motorcycles. In regions with underdeveloped public transportation, the only way to travel was by car and they were too far to visit in a single day. Not only did local associates take turns by area to accompany us, but we also developed a bond akin to comrades-in-arms with the driver over the week-long Yoshitama With poorly maintained roads limiting speeds to only 30–40 kmph, the journey was a five-day drive through rough terrain. At accommodations along the way, it was common to have no hot water in the shower and to sleep on hard beds. Even so, spending the night in the car was not unusual—in situations where simply having a place to lie down was considered a luxury. 'Not only did local associates take turns by area to accompany us, but we also developed a bond akin to comrades-in-arms with the driver over the week-long trek,' says Hiroki Yoshitama who was stationed at the north and west region offices as a service representative from 2014 to 2018. Tedious exercise Upon arrival, Honda staff would inquire about the village chiefs, locate them, schedule an appointment, provide a thorough explanation of Honda and after gaining their understanding, begin the 'tedious process of negotiating permission' to set up a dealership. The company was also quick to note that in village societies, people chose products that everyone else was buying, especially in low-income areas where 'mistakes in purchasing are not tolerated'. Residents in villages placed strong emphasis on the opinions of trusted individuals, or word-of-mouth. As entire communities could be swayed by the opinions of their influential figures, Honda staff persistently built trust through village meetings and expanded word-of-mouth recommendations from there. 'The main source of information in rural areas is word-of-mouth. To break into the stronghold of competing motorcycle brands, we repeatedly visited rural areas,' says Takashi Watarai who was in northern India from 2010 to 2015. In Rajasthan, there was once an area termed the 'untouched rural region' where security was so poor that taking photos was not allowed, and the market was dominated by a single competing motorcycle brand. Sales and service always go hand-in-hand. Reaching out directly Even after sales staff made steady efforts to open new venues, there were cases where the dealership had to close due to insufficient demand. To learn from these experiences, in regions where demand was not sufficient to justify establishing a physical dealership, Honda made efforts to directly introduce products and services to customers. This included using a caravan truck provided by dealers to travel to rural areas and hold temporary workshops in village squares to promote products. In regions where agriculture was the primary industry, Honda staff participated in tractor exhibitions and continued steady efforts to enhance Honda brand awareness. Honda's motorcycle market share increased by approximately 15% over the four-year period from 2011 to 2015. The steady efforts in sales and service had paid off. Trial and error 'It was all about trial and error. Don't stop, keep moving, and challenge yourself. Always think about what you can do to make the people in India happy while you're working,' was the motto at the time, according to staff stationed in India. Sales representatives paid attention to service maintenance while service representatives approached customers with a sales mindset to drive repeat purchases. Despite the small team of expatriates and local associates, they collaborated across departmental boundaries. There were numerous challenges, including strengthening service systems and maintaining quality in response to increased sales, addressing the market needs for both every day and recreational motorcycles, and further strengthening the Honda brand in rural areas.
