Trupti Murgunde's Biggest Learning From Sport: 'Hang On & Don't Give Up'

News185 days ago
Ex-shuttler Trupti Murgunde has highlighted perseverance through adversities as her key learning from sports, aiding her professional life after retirement.
Former Indian shuttler and two-time South Asian Games gold medallist Trupti Murgunde has said that her biggest learning from playing sports was to keep going no matter the adversities, adding that this mantra has helped her in daily professional life even after retirement from badminton.
Known for her deceptive strokes, Murgunde bagged six international titles in singles as well as in BWF events from 1999 to 2014.
'While I was actively playing, we would win and lose on the same day and still come back the next day and repeat the process. Still to hang on and not give up is something I learnt," Murgunde said while speaking at the SheShakti 2025 Mumbai Edition.
'Now, when I have been working for Indian Oil for 22 years in an administrative role, it helps me so much. Whenever I am facing any issues or match up with my colleagues because I come from a sports background, I just think about those learnings and come back afresh," Murgunde added.
Trupti trained in Pune under Vasant Gore from the age of nine during her initial years before moving out to Prakash Padukone Academy in Bengaluru and getting coached under the former shuttler and Vimal Kumar in Bengaluru where she has been residing since 1999.
Trupti went on to become the National Champion in junior category. She was conferred the Dhyan Chand Award for Lifetime Achievement by the President of India on August in 2020.

KL Rahul steps up big in England: Senior batter shines in Kohli and Rohit's absence

KL Rahul has received high praise from former cricketer Ashish Nehra after his impressive performance in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. With key players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma absent due to retirement, Rahul stepped up as the most experienced batter in India's Test side and played a key role in levelling the five-match series scored 532 runs across 10 innings, averaging a solid 53.2, as he looked composed and assured throughout, even under on Sony Sports, Ashish Nehra acknowledged Rahul's maturity and sense of responsibility, particularly with a young team around him. 'He was an experienced batter. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were not there. There were a few young players. An England tour is not easy. No matter how much you discuss that the pitches in the first two Tests were the flattest, you still need to score runs on that, and this player showed that by doing it,' Nehra also pointed out that Rahul got to bat in his preferred position at the top of the order, which allowed him to settle and lead by example.'As an opener, when you are the most experienced player in the team, that must be in your mind. The experienced players like him and Jasprit Bumrah did their job fully. It felt good that he got a chance to play at the number he has been playing for a long time. He made the most of the opportunity he got at the right place,' he series included two centuries and two fifties. Only his skipper Shubman Gill scored more for India, finishing with 754 runs. Yet Rahul's knocks were particularly significant for the way he adapted to the conditions and played within his strengths against a brand-new red Discipline Key to Rahul's SuccessFormer Indian player RP Singh, who joined the same discussion panel, highlighted the technical and mental adjustments Rahul made to succeed in the English conditions.'I feel KL Rahul had made a strong decision before the series about which shots he had to avoid. The bat was always close to his body. He only drove the fuller-length balls. He tried to take singles off the length balls. He also shared his experience with the captain,' he went on to add that Rahul was not only managing his own game but also guiding his partners during crucial moments in the match.'While batting, at times, you have to tell your partner how much the ball is swinging or what he can correct during the match. He tried that with a few people, although he didn't do it with Rishabh Pant. However, he was exchanging words with the other batters,' Singh disciplined and patient approach in this Test series marked a tectonic shift in his Test career. Earlier, Rahul's red-ball career was a tale of inconsistency, but in England, he turned a switch and came out as one of the best batters in the series.- EndsMust Watch

Gayle On Reunion With Kohli And De Villiers: 'That Would Be Something Special..'

Last Updated: Chris Gayle reflects on West Indies' journey in the World Championship of Legends, and weighs in on the idea of a reunion with Kohli and de Villiers. Although the West Indies Champions narrowly missed a semifinal spot in the World Championship of Legends, the tournament concluded positively with Chris Gayle discussing the team's journey, his future plans, and a potential dream reunion with Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. Gayle remarked, 'Virat is a phenomenal player. We've spent some great time together both on and off the field. He is a true legend of the sport, and we miss him dearly in international cricket." When asked about the possibility of Kohli joining the Legends League alongside him and AB de Villiers, Gayle added, 'That would be something special. Fans would love that." Virat Kohli had dedicated the Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) first Indian Premier League (IPL) victory to franchise stalwarts AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle. 'I promise you this feels 10 times more special because these two are standing next to me. Honestly, it is as much theirs as it is mine. When you come to Bengaluru, it is not just me; when they come, people love them and they go absolutely berserk," Virat had said. 'They know, and they appreciate that they have given their heart and soul to this team till the time they played here. These two guys have given their everything, so it is equally theirs, too," he added. Ajay Sethi, owner of the West Indies Champions, supported this sentiment, stating, 'Wins and losses are part of the game. I'll sit with Chris and plan new strategies for next season. Every edition teaches us something new, and we are committed to a serious title run in 2026." The two-week tournament in England concluded with the South Africa Champions lifting the trophy, thanks to AB de Villiers, who scored a sensational century, leading them to a nine-wicket victory over the Pakistan Champions to secure their maiden WCL title. With the promise of a bigger, bolder return and hopes of a Kohli-Gayle-ABD reunion, WCL fans across the globe now eagerly await 2026. One thing is certain – the legends aren't done yet.
