A West Lothian play centre is urging locals to help them keep their doors open - after an 'all time low' in users.
Managers at Let's Rock The Spectrum in Armadale said visitors had dropped so low they had 'no option' but to close for almost a week. After fundraising they were able to cover some costs - though are asking locals to donate, if they can, to keep the space going.
This comes after the sunny weather over Scotland was 'keeping numbers down'. On May 15, centre bosses said that rising temperatures saw their visitors drop drastically.
Let's Rock The Spectrum opened up in October 2023, and aims to provide all children with a nurturing space to play - with a focus on those with additional support needs. Rachel O'Neil, who launched the business, returned home from working abroad for 12 years and said there 'no play spaces designed with ASN kids in mind'.
Now, they're asking for support as they look to 'continue serving the community'.
Posting to Facebook, they said: "We have raised just over the 50 percent mark and are so overwhelmed with everyone's kind words of support and donations!

"It truly means so much knowing what our wee space means to the community. For the last month, we have had an all time low in the number of people using our space.
"So much so, we had no option but to close for almost a week. We now have enough to cover May's rent (that was late) and June's rent is almost due.
"In between this, we have SO many costs and bills that we have to cover with absolutely no income from the play space itself. We have invested so much of our time and money into the space and truly don't mind doing so- but we just cannot continue to sustain the space if people don't use it.
"We hope numbers rise again and hope to see you all at our events and birthday parties too. We hope to get past this and continue to be around for a long time to come.

"But we do need help just now to cover the large amount of rent due in order to keep open! Every single pound helps. If you can't donate, please share."
One local resident replied: "Aw sorry to hear this, hope you guys come through this."
Another added: "Sad but totally understandable. We've been guilty of going out and enjoying the sun rather than coming for a play but will be back."
A third posted: "Sorry to hear this, my kids love this place."

Our signature Beefed Up! tops the bill (two patties, if you think you're hard and hungry enough). Just add fries. "Room for more? Try our sides – everything from cheesy, fiery Not'cho Nachos and supremely melty Mozzarella Sticks. Seal the deal with one of our notoriously sweet shakes and waffles!"

Edinburgh couple retire after 'making real difference to the lives of thousands'

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info An Edinburgh couple who have been working together for over 40 years are set to retire. Suzie and Brian Lewis have a combined 82 years of service for the Scottish Braille Press, after meeting back in 1989. Suzie, who is registered blind, joined the Braille Press in '79, with Brian, who has epilepsy, following a decade later - on the day of Suzie's birthday. They married in 1996 and have worked alongside each other over the decades. Reflecting on their careers, Suzie explained: 'When I started, it was all manual. "We hand-collated huge Braille documents, some up to 2,300 pages, and stitched them before dispatch. It was physical, team-based work, and we did it all by hand. I did that for about 14 years until technology changed things and demand for Braille reduced." Brian adds: 'When I started, we were still using zinc plates to produce Braille, there were very few computers. A few years later we began investing in technology to meet growing demand for financial documents and mailing lists. Sign up for Edinburgh Live newsletters for more headlines straight to your inbox 'We mostly check financial letters, bank, and pension statements. You must check every detail, even envelopes, to make sure the right person gets the right information. It's about maintaining trust, privacy, and accuracy.' Suzie and Brian have also provided unique support to each other throughout their working lives. Suzie shares: 'We helped each other, as it should be. Sometimes we worked on the same job, reading different versions of a document. I'm registered blind and Brian has epilepsy, so being in the same space meant we could look out for one another. 'I'm very proud of the work we've done. It's changed so much over the years. With modern technology, new systems, but at its heart, the mission has stayed the same; to make sure people with sight loss can live independently and confidently.' Brian continues: 'We thought about working a bit longer, but we're in a good position to retire now and enjoy the time together. It's the right moment. We are looking forward to a cruise and stay in the Mediterranean in September, then we're going to Canada in May next year. It's been an amazing time working at the Scottish Braille Press, and I am sure Suzie will agree, I am the best birthday present she has ever had!' Colin Hilditch, Head of Enterprise at Sight Scotland, said: 'Suzie and Brian's dedication has made a real difference to the lives of thousands of people. Their attention to detail, professionalism and teamwork have helped ensure the highest standards in accessible communication. We are hugely grateful for their service and wish them all the very best for a happy retirement.'
