Stanley Cup Final Game 6 live updates: Florida Panthers can clinch title tonight

Miami Herald17-06-2025
Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers is at 8 p.m. (really about 8:20 p.m., but the main broadcast on TNT starts at 8) Tuesday from Sunrise's Amerant Bank Arena.
Florida leads the best-of-7 series 3-2, meaning the Panthers can repeat as Stanley Cup champions with a win on Tuesday.
Follow along throughout the game for live updates, news, analysis and commentary.
Luongo on the drum
The Panthers will turn to former goaltender and current special advisor to the general manager Roberto Luongo for the pregame drum banging ahead of Game 6 on Tuesday.
Luongo was the guest drummer banger ahead of Game 7 of the Cup Final last season, which Florida eventually won 2-1 to claim its first Stanley Cup in franchise history.
It worked that time, so why mess with things? Plus, the Panthers are 3-0 over the past three postseasons when one of their own bangs the drum ahead of the game. The others were Billy Lindsay ahead of Game 6 in Round 1 against the Boston Bruins in 2023 and Keith Yandle ahead of Game 4 in Round 2 against the Toronto Maple Leafs this year.

Series schedule
▪ Game 1 — Oilers 4, Panthers 3 (overtime): The Panthers had a two-goal lead early in the second period but couldn't hold on as Edmonton tied the game early in the third and won it on a Leon Draisaitl power-play goal with 31 seconds left in overtime.
▪ Game 2 — Panthers 5, Oilers 4 (double overtime): The Oilers tied the game with 17.8 seconds left in regulation to force overtime for a second consecutive game. Brad Marchand scored the game-winner 8:05 into the second OT period to secure the Florida win and even the series 1-1.
▪ Game 3 — Panthers 6, Oilers 1: The Panthers dominated from start to finish, with six different players scoring and Sergei Bobrovsky stellar in net, before the game unraveled in the final 10 minutes.
▪ Game 4 — Oilers 5, Panthers 4 (overtime): The Panthers blew a 3-0 lead as Edmonton, tied the game with 19.5 seconds left in regulation and then lost when Leon Draisaitl scored on a backhanded shot 11:18 into overtime.
▪ Game 5 — Panthers 5, Oilers 2: Brad Marchand scored a pair of highlight-reel goals and the Panthers played probably their best defensive game of the series to move within one win of repeating as champions.
▪ Game 6: Tonight
▪ Game 7 (if necessary): Friday, June 20, 8 p.m., TNT, truTV, Max, Edmonton's Rogers Place

Pavel Datsyuk: Red Wings Rookie Season Felt Like Arriving On A "Crazy Planet"

It's hard to believe nowadays that the legendary 2001-02 Detroit Red Wings roster featured an astounding 10 future Hall of Fame players, a feat that we'll likely never witness again in the modern NHL. Oh, and they were also coached by Scotty Bowman, arguably the greatest head coach in professional sports. That team was nothing short of a juggernaut, and they capped the campaign by winning the 10th Stanley Cup in Red Wings history. There likely weren't many who would have expected young rookie forward Pavel Datsyuk, a fresh-faced rookie who didn't yet speak English, would not only soon be paired on a line with Brett Hull but would eventually have his own Hall of Fame career in Detroit. Bookmark The Hockey News Detroit Red Wings team site to stay connected to the latest news, game-day coverage, and player features. While stepping into a dressing room filled with some of the sport's most iconic names might have been intimidating for a first-time NHL player, Datsyuk never showed it outwardly. Datsyuk's entrance into a brand new culture was partially aided by the presence of Russian veterans Igor Larionov and Sergei Fedorov, whom he was able to communicate with in his native tongue as he adjusted to life in North America. Datsyuk recently appeared on Larionov's podcast, 'PARI with Larionov', and spoke about his feelings all those years ago on earning a roster spot with the Red Wings in the fall of 2001. "I got to some crazy planet, where another world opened up to me, the hockey world," Datsyuk said. "I could attend a training session, where every training session was like a lesson for me. One day I could watch one player, another day another." "It was such a wonderful time," he continued. "I remember it like this, like it happened to me in one day. How I ended up in Detroit and the whole time it was like I didn't close my mouth." Datsyuk quickly became a permanent fixture on the Red Wings and soon earned recognition as one of the most gifted and dynamic players in modern NHL history. He was praised as much for his offensive brilliance as for his defensive play, winning the Frank J. Selke Trophy as the league's best defensive forward in three straight seasons. Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2024, Datsyuk became the 10th player from the 2001-02 Red Wings roster to be forever enshrined in Toronto. "I ended up with NHL stars on a team where I could learn, I ended up with the guys we were watching," he said. "Yes, I was a little shy talking to them, but I was there the whole time, watching, listening, getting advice." Never miss a story by adding us to your Google News favorites.

Panthers signing reigning UFL MVP after injury to QB Andy Dalton

The Carolina Panthers are adding another Bryce to their quarterback room. As first reported by ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter on Sunday, the Panthers plan on signing quarterback Bryce Perkins. The move comes after yesterday's right elbow injury to backup Andy Dalton, who made an early exit from the 20-3 loss to the Houston Texans. Perkins, a University of Virginia standout, first broke into the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Rams in 2020. He'd go on to appear in five games during the 2022 campaign, where he completed 19 of his 34 passing attempts for 161 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder has played the last two years with the United Football League's Michigan Panthers. He was named the league's Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year in 2025—as he passed for 1,342 yards and scored 14 total touchdowns (five rushing) over seven outings. Panthers head coach Dave Canales told reporters on Saturday that he does not plan on playing his starters in the team's preseason finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers this week. That plan, along with Dalton's injury, could leave Carolina with just Perkins and Jack Plummer at the quarterback position on Thursday. Panthers to sign UFL MVP Bryce Perkins

Andy Dalton left Saturday's game with an elbow injury, so the Panthers are adding a quarterback to the roster for the final week of the preseason. The Panthers cited multiple reports that they plan to sign 2025 UFL MVP Bryce Perkins. There's no word on any corresponding move at this point. Perkins won the MVP and offensive player of the year awards for his play with the Michigan Panthers this spring. Perkins threw for 1,342 yards and nine touchdowns while rushing for 269 yards and five scores. He was also with the team in 2024. Perkins spent three seasons with the Rams after going undrafted in 2022. He played in five games and made one start during the 2022 season. With Dalton injured, Jack Plummer was the only healthy quarterback behind Bryce Young in Carolina. The Panthers do not plan to play their starters against the Steelers this week, so Perkins was needed as another available body in the coming days.
