There's a new 'Rosy's' restaurant in Sioux Falls
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) —It's been over a month since Rosie's Cafe closed in Sioux Falls. Now, someone is opening a new restaurant in the same area that sports a similar name, but different meals.
Just down the street from where Rosie's Cafe was located, you will now find Rosy's Tacos— a new Mexican restaurant.
TenHaken wants drivers to 'feel the urge to zipper merge'
'We're gonna be serving more of, like, asada, birria, dorado, chorizo, ground beef and then hopefully a lot more throughout the time,' Rosy's Tacos, Juan Nuno said.
'Our specialty is Birria. I really love it. It's really amazing,' Rosy's Tacos, Ana Nuno said.
The name is similar to Rosie's Cafe, but the owner has his own reason for calling his restaurant 'Rosy's', as it's his eldest daughter's name.
'It wasn't my intention to do it, but I mean, I had a food truck out here and when I had the food truck, I named it Rosy's food truck. So when we opened our restaurant, we decided to bring the name down to the restaurant,' Juan said.
The Nunos' family wants to bring something to the neighborhood that they think will add to it's charm.
'We don't have much restaurant business close to this side of town, so it's gonna be kind of nice to have something that you can get close to it, You don't have to go all the way down to the other side of town or downtown,' Juan said.
'We hope to bring in a lot of people so that they can expand their palate or that they can see more authentic Hispanic food,' Ana said.

Iconic Grand Forks restaurant Italian Moon to close; last days June 18-20
Jun. 12—GRAND FORKS — The Italian Moon, a restaurant in Grand Forks since 1965, will close next week, its management has announced. On the restaurant's official website is a message to customers. "It is with heavy hearts that we announce the closing of Italian Moon," the website said. "This decision was not made lightly. Italian Moon has been more than just a restaurant — it has been a gathering place for families, friends, celebrations and everyday moments. We've had the privilege of serving generations of loyal guests, and we are truly grateful for the memories made within our walls." Its final days open will be June 18, 19 and 20, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. while supplies last, according to a sign outside the restaurant. A Greenberg Realty "property for sale" sign sat beside it. According to past Herald coverage, The Moon opened in 1965, originally operated by Keith Moon. Its menu has specialized in pizza and pasta, along with other American and even Mexican fare. It operated for some four decades under Ken Towers before Scott Purpur took over ownership in 2015. Purpur, the restaurant's owner, previously was a soft drink district sales manager. In a 2012 review of the restaurant, Herald columnist Marilyn Hagerty said, "The Moon seems to cater to a broad spectrum. The regulars come from all walks of life and of all ages." And in 2021, she wrote: "The fact that there is no front door at the Moon sets the theme. The place is different from many chain or group restaurants because in these days it is one of a kind. With some customers, it is most popular on Sundays for brunch or for late afternoon visits to the salad bar." A message left for Purpur was not returned before this report was published.

Popular Houston Mexican Restaurant Closes Abruptly
After two years in business, a local Houston Mexican restaurant closed its doors abruptly this week. Mi Tierra Mexican Kitchen shuttered on Wednesday, effective immediately. Owner Kate Mancia announced the news on social media after "after much reflection and with a heart full of mixed emotions." "This decision did not come easy. Mi Tierra was more than just a restaurant. It was a dream, a risk, a labor of love, and a huge part of my soul. It was where we poured our passion, culture, and our heart into every detail -from the recipes to the guest we welcomed through our doors," Mancia wrote. Mancia and chef Martin Weaver opened Mi Tierra in October 2023. Over time, it gained a following from loyal customers, who Mancia thanked, along with her staff, in Wednesday's final message. "Though this chapter is ending, I am proud of what Mi Tierra was and what it represented. I've learned so much through this journey ; about business, about people, and about myself," she added. "This isn't goodbye to the dream. It's just a pause, a redirection. I carry forward the good memories, the food , the flavors, and the spirit of what Mi Tierra represented wherever life takes me next." Mi Tierra customers also expressed their disappointment in the comments. "If you ever open another restaurant in a different location. We would love to come and eat again," one wrote. "So sorry to see this chapter close, but excited to see what lies ahead!" a second added. "Good luck and this is just a pause," a third chimed in. During its tenure, Mi Tierra offered a variety of Mexican and Tex-Mex favorites, as well as a raw bar, a variety of drinks and cocktails and dishes such as gochujang short rib, smoked duck carnitas in mole and a selection of small plates.
