UP tourism to make grand pitch at world travel marts
The Uttar Pradesh tourism department is set to promote the state's diverse tourism offerings at major travel marts and expos around the world to attract international tourists. Through specially designed pavilions, the department will showcase key tourism circuits, iconic destinations, traditional handicrafts and the rich cultural heritage of the state, said a press note from the department of tourism and culture.
The global outreach will begin with the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) in Dubai, scheduled from April 28 to May 1, 2025. Following this, the department will participate in leading international travel events in countries such as Thailand, France, Japan, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Spain, Australia, Germany and Russia.
The goal is to present UP on global platforms as a premier tourism destination while inviting tour operators, travel agents and investors to explore the state's vast tourism potential and investment opportunities, added the press note.
According to principal secretary, tourism and culture, Mukesh Meshram, a special focus will be placed on internationally favoured destinations such as Ayodhya, Varanasi, Mathura-Vrindavan, Lucknow and Vindhyachal. These locations, known for their spiritual, historical, and cultural significance, will be presented through immersive and theme-based displays.
Additionally, lesser-known yet unique destinations like the Swaminarayan Temple in Gonda, ISKCON Temple in Vrindavan, Ramakrishna Math in Lucknow, and sites in Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, Chandauli, Naimisharanya, Hastinapur, Shukteerth, Jait and Bhavat village will also be prominently featured.

Dudhwa Tiger Reserve now home to 180 butterfly species
LUCKNOW: Known for being a habitat of big and powerful predators, Dudhwa Tiger Reserve (DTR) also has a soft corner for delicate winged beauties, if the number of butterfly species found there is any indication. 'The butterfly species count has reached 180 here,' said wildlife biologist Vipin Saini, who compiled the data. India, overall, is home to 1,500 species of butterflies. As per a survey done by teams from the University of Lucknow, the species count stands at over 110 in Dudhwa. Butterflies, also known as bio-indicators, are extremely sensitive to climate change and prefer being in a healthy environment. An increase in their number and species is suggestive of better ecology at DTR, which ranked fourth in India for tiger count in the 2022 census. The Dudhwa national park, spread over 490.3 sq km, is home to 135 tigers out of the total 205 in Uttar Pradesh. DTR had a tiger population of 82 in the 2018 census. 'Migratory butterflies from Uttarakhand also add to UP's butterfly population,' said Prof Amita Kanaujia of the department of zoology at the University of Lucknow. The news of improving butterfly population at Dudhwa, which also has 450 species of birds, has sent ripples of excitement through the park administration and tourists. Initially, DTR was officially known for being home to only 45 butterfly species. This significant increase highlights the park's rich and unique biodiversity, further cementing its reputation as a haven for wildlife. Some species on the list are not common in the region. Their names include Common Mormon, Common Mine, Common Lime, Twany Coaster, Gaudy baron (rare), Striped tiger, Common Tiger (male and female), Grey count (rare), Commandor. The study of new species will soon be published in journals, said Saini.

UP govt plans ‘flat-like' factory in Greater Noida for MSMEs
Aiming to boost the medium and small scale (MSME) industries in the state, the UP government has decided to develop a flat-like ('flatted') factory space in Greater Noida with an estimated expenditure of Rs 125 crore. The factory space will be developed by Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) in Sector 28 of Greater Noida. Officials said that while the initial survey and preparations of the master plan are in process, the target is to get the project ready within two years. 'As per the plan, the idea is to provide the state-of-the-art infrastructure to MSME units in a shared complex, which would reduce their cost of production and other input costs as well. It will be provided as a fully equipped unit by the YEIDA with all the essential facilities, so that the units can start production and operations smoothly,' an official said. Officials said that with UP already having a large MSME base, this project would help not only achieve economic targets by bringing in new investment but would also help general employment opportunities. 'The project will be on EPC model — Engineering, Procurement, and Construction — with a three-year defect liability period,' the official added. The 'flatted' factory will have multi-storeys — a basement, a ground floor, and three floors that will all cover an area of over 38,665 square metres. As per the project plan, along with the main multi-storied building, the government will also develop a complex for any future needs. 'The flatted factory will also have internal water supply, electricity, fire safety systems, elevators, as well as HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), meeting the requirement of the MSMEs,' the official said. Further, the government would also provide pre-installed security features like CCTV, access control, and other electronic systems, the official added. While the design has been proposed to follow green building standards, the complex is also proposed to have 24 and 30-meter-wide roads connectivity linking it to the highway for ease of transportation of the goods. Officials said the government would also provide boundary walls, gates, guard rooms, internal roads, parking, drainage, sewage, water supply, plumbing pumps, fire safety systems, and landscaping, which would help ease the setting up of MSME units and with a fast pace, thereby reducing other costs.

UP: 50 delegates from 5 ASEAN countries participated in six-day ‘Bodhi yatra'
Lucknow, In a bid to place Uttar Pradesh's Buddhist heritage on the world map, the Yogi Adityanath-led government organised a special six-day "Bodhi Yatra", which saw the participation of 50 delegates from five ASEAN countries. As part of this mission, the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department, in association with the Union Ministry of External Affairs, organised the "Bodhi Yatra" under the Mekong-Ganga Cooperation framework, an official statement said on Sunday. The yatra, held from June 2 to June 7, aimed to showcase key destinations within the state's Buddhist circuit. A 50-member delegation from five ASEAN nations Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam participated in the tour. The group included Buddhist monks, travel agents, and social media influencers. UP's Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh said that under CM Yogi Adityanath's leadership, Uttar Pradesh is committed to promote its rich Buddhist heritage on a global platform. The recently held 'Bodhi Yatra' aimed to showcase major Buddhist sites like Shravasti, Kapilvastu, Kushinagar and Sarnath, as well as Varanasi, Lucknow, and Agra to the world tourism map, he said. He informed that during the trip, the visiting delegation explored important sites such as the Ananda Bodhi Tree, Jetavana Monastery, Piprahwa Stupa, Mahaparinirvana Stupa, Dhamek Stupa, Ashokan Pillar, and several Buddhist museums. Jaiveer Singh added that the state government has focused on improving infrastructure, enhancing tourist facilities, and preserving the cultural significance of these sacred places. Earlier in Lucknow, the international delegation met CM Adityanath and learned about Uttar Pradesh's rich and deeply rooted Buddhist heritage. The Tourism Department extended a warm welcome with traditional hospitality and special presentations, showcasing the spiritual and cultural significance of each site on the 'Bodhi Yatra' itinerary. Business-to-business meetings were also held during the 'Bodhi Yatra', helping strengthen tourism and cultural ties between India and Southeast Asian countries. The Tourism Minister said that this effort will not only bring global recognition to UP's Buddhist legacy, but also boost tourism and contribute to the state's economic growth.
