Wrexham closing in on £8million Man City star as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney splash cash for Championship season

WREXHAM are closing in on the signing of Manchester City star Callum Doyle, according to reports. The Championship side owned by Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are discussing a deal worth £8million. 2 2 Doyle, 21, is capable of playing at centre-back or left-back. He has come through Man City 's academy but never made a first-team appearance for them. Doyle has spent the last four seasons away from the Etihad on loan at Sunderland, Coventry, Leicester and Norwich. He made 23 appearances for the Foxes under Enzo Maresca as they won promotion to the Premier League last year. And last term at Carrow Road, he played 43 times and registered seven assists. Doyle has another two years on his contract at Man City, but they are reportedly ready to cash in. The England Under-21 international would become Wrexham 's tenth signing of the summer. And an £8m deal would take their total spend to a reported £28m. They have already signed Ipswich striker Nathan Broadhead for an initial £7.5m that could rise to £10m with add-ons. Other notable arrivals are Lewis O'Brien from Nottingham Forest, Conor Coady from Leicester and Kieffer Moore from Sheffield United. Wrexham, who have secured three promotions in as many years, suffered defeats in their opening two Championship games of the season against Southampton and Hull.

Ashvir Singh Johal takes charge at Morecambe and becomes first British Sikh to manage in England's top five leagues

Ashvir Singh Johal has become the first British Sikh to take charge of a men's team in the top five leagues of English football. Morecambe FC confirmed him as manager two days after the approval of its takeover by consortium Panjab Warriors - and a day after previous boss Derek Adams was sacked. It said it marked an "exciting new era for the Shrimps as the club continues its journey under fresh ownership and renewed ambition". The National League side said Johal had "a wealth of experience in player development, tactical innovation, and building high-performance cultures". The 30-year-old spent a decade at Leicester City's academy - where he coached under-7s through to under-18s - and in 2022 joined Kolo Toure's Wigan as first-team coach for the senior team. He also previously worked with Cesc Fabregas at Italian side Como. "The immediate priority right now is going to be to identify the players that we need in this building to ensure Morecambe Football Club can perform well in the National League," said Johal. The Lancashire side has been at risk of closure and it was suspended by the National League due to financial problems that have seen players, staff, creditors and the taxman go unpaid. However, Morecambe's new owners said the debts would be paid by Wednesday. Their delayed season opener is scheduled to be at home against Altrincham on Saturday. Morecambe were relegated from League Two (the fourth tier) last season.

Wrexham close in on £8m deal for Man City starlet Callum Doyle

Wrexham are closing in on an £8m deal for Manchester City defender Callum Doyle that would take their summer spending past £30m. The 21-year-old is set to become Phil Parkinson 's 10th summer signing while City continue to trim their squad and bring in money by selling youth-team products. Centre-back Doyle would become the second biggest buy in Wrexham's history after Nathan Broadhead joined from Ipswich last week in a move that could cost up to £10m. Wrexham had already broken their club record this summer to sign first Liberato Cacace and then Lewis O'Brien while they have also bought Conor Coady, Kieffer Moore, Ryan Hardie and George Thomason, besides bringing in Josh Windass and Danny Ward on free transfers. England Under-21 international Doyle has never made a first-team appearance for City but has had four loan spells, playing for Sunderland in League One in 2021-22 and then Coventry, Leicester City and Norwich City in the Championship. He won promotions with Sunderland and Leicester and reached the play-off final with Coventry. After going up in each of the last three seasons, Wrexham have lost both of their matches in the Championship, conceding five goals, as well as three in the Carabao Cup to Hull. Doyle's departure will follow James McAtee's £30m move to Nottingham Forest, while City have also sold other young players, in Jacob Wright, Maximo Perrone and Farid Alpha-Ruprecht. In addition, one of Pep Guardiola's summer signings, Sverre Nypan, has joined Middlesbrough on a season-long loan. The 18-year-old Norwegian midfielder joined for £12.5m, but City's plan was always to loan him out to gain first-team experience.
