Wallace Subaru donates $27k to Crossroads Medical Mission
BRISTOL, Tenn. (WJHL) — A Tri-Cities car dealership gave $27,515 to a non-profit dedicated to providing basic medical care to underserved people.
Wallace Subaru of Bristol presented Crossroads Medical Mission, a free mobile clinic, with the check on Wednesday.

'This kind of money will provide labs for our patients,' Crossroads Medical Mission Executive Director Erin Faust said. 'Also, incidentally, as you say, the mobile medical clinic behind us, it is actually in need of repair, and it's going this week to finish up some repairs on that. So this is the kind of money that can really help just literally keep us rolling.'
The dealership raised the funds during the annual Subaru Share the Love Campaign. For every new Subaru purchased from Wallace Subaru of Bristol between Nov. 21, 2024 and Jan. 2, 2025, the dealership and Subaru of America donated $375.
Wallace Subaru of Bristol has now donated more than $230,000 to Crossroads Medical Mission in the past decade.
'We really believe in supporting the community health and doing what we can to make a strong community, because we do well in the community as well,' said T.C. Baker, the general manager of Wallace Subaru of Bristol.
Crossroads Medical Mission provided care to 750 patients in 2024, the vast majority of whom were uninsured or underinsured.
'Insurance is expensive,' Faust said. 'And it's hard to decide between paying for insurance or putting food on the table, and so this is just one little way that we can help keep people healthy, hopefully. And, just make lives better.'
'Often, we don't realize until we have an illness or we're in poor health, but without health, we don't have much else,' Baker said. 'So they really are providing a backbone to health care in our community.'

'By the end of the month, that's the hardest time when you're retired,' Driver said. The Shepherd's Center is one of the largest nonprofit providers of Meals on Wheels, keeping homebound seniors on a fixed income fed. Baker said this year alone they've lost $500,000 in funding, lost one of their other programs and can now only serve 600 people, half of the number they were serving two years ago. 'You know you're going to have something to eat until that next month comes,' Driver said. 'Meals on Wheels is a lifesaver for elderly people.' 'If they were to stop it, there would be a lot of people hurting because we do need it,' Johnico added. Group's 22-day trip raising awareness of veteran suicide passes through Johnson City
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — An advocacy group named 'Riding 22 in 22' passed through Johnson City on its 22-day motorcycle road trip, aiming to raise awareness of veteran suicide rates. The group gathered at Wrecking Crew Harley-Davidson on Bristol Highway on Wednesday as it worked to pass through 22 states in 22 days. On Wednesday, the group was in Tennessee, but left for Kentucky that afternoon. They will end in West Virginia before heading home to Ohio. The Whites said all money raised during the trip is donated to a research institute called STRIVE. 'STRIVE Collaborative is the only research institute in the United States that explicitly focuses on developing and refining treatments for elevated suicide risk, trauma, and gun-related violence,' the initiative's website states. 'STRIVE–the organization that we are raising the funds for–they fly veterans in from all over the United States, put them up in a hotel, provide them with meals, put them through a treatment program,' Angela said. 'And it's all at no cost to the veteran, but the great part is they can typically do that within a few days rather than, sometimes, the weeks or even months that it takes with the VA.' Jason White said the organization plans to host the fundraising and awareness-raising road trip again next year. 'We started it, we wanted it to be a big thing, and it kind of at one point did get its own life,' he said. 'And it's kind of rolled bigger, quicker than what we expected, so we're really excited to continue going and do next year.' McKinley High School moves to temporary location as campus undergoes renovation
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — McKinley High School is temporarily relocating. The move is necessary due to McKinley undergoing renovations. School officials announced that their last day at 800 East McKinley Street will be Wednesday, June 18. After that, McKinley will be located at Kenilworth Middle School. The address is 7600 Boone Drive. According to East Baton Rouge Parish Public Schools, the renovations and improvements are a part of a tax plan approved by voters. While construction is ongoing, students from McKinley High will attend classes at Kenilworth for two years. EBR Schools said they will be reimagining the exterior of the building, renovating some interior spaces, along with other projects. The school system confirmed that there will be a community meeting in the future where architectural renderings will be shown to the public.
