‘We Underestimated The Impact': American Eagle Issues Apology For Sydney Sweeney Ad
Popular clothing brand American Eagle was recently embroiled in a controversy after their latest ad campaign featuring Sydney Sweeney surfaced on social media. Although the Euphoria star looked gorgeous as ever while promoting the brand's play on 'genes and jeans", the advertisement stirred backlash from across the globe.
Now the label has responded to the same, with an insider even claiming the contradictory internal polls of the advertisement.
American Eagle's Response To Sydney Sweeney's Ad
American Eagle also reacted to the advertisement featuring Sydney Sweeney in a head-to-toe denim look, delivering the line, 'Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair colour, personality and even eye colour…My genes are blue." The tagline of the ad read 'Sydney Sweeney has great genes", which was later replaced by the last word as 'jeans".
The brand issued an apology letter for this, which read, 'We sincerely apologise for featuring Sydney Sweeney in our recent ad. In hindsight, we underestimated the combined impact of her blue eyes, blonde hair and general hotness. Also, we did not realise how big her boobs would be. Our marketing team has been sent to denim sensitivity training. Thank you for your feedback. Pls stop emailing us," quoted StoryBoard18.
The Brand's Internal Poll Reveals A Contradicting Situation
According to a report posted by TMZ, an internal poll conducted by American Eagle shows that 70 per cent of people like the advertisement featuring The Handmaid's Tale star Sydney Sweeney. 'This is yet another example of how social media doesn't reflect real life. The absurd response from some corners of the internet is absolutely not how American Eagle's customers feel," an insider said to the portal.
According to the executive, the goal of the advertisement was to sell jeans and support a meaningful cause – awareness about domestic violence. The insider continued, 'Regardless of how people feel about the ad, we hope there's one thing we can agree on: we need to be doing more to support and empower people facing domestic violence."
Social Media Uses Criticised Sydney Sweeney's Ad
Previously, the brand garnered much outrage from social media users. Even rapper Doja Cat mocked the campaign and Sydney's line, glorifying her blue eyes, blonde hair, and thin white body as the standardised beauty in one of her TikTok videos.
Megyn Kelly Called Out Those Who Criticised Sydney Sweeney's Ad
Meanwhile, TV host Megyn Kelly defended Sweeney by calling the critics 'lunatics on the Left" who are twisting the real meaning of the ad. 'They're upset because it's about who gets to be the face of America's Best Genes. But they're missing the point—it's not about skin colour, it's about the body, which is what she's famous for," she added.

Golden retriever boyfriends are all over your feed, but does one exist IRL?
Image credits: Getty Images The term 'Golden Retriever Boyfriend' has a similar birthplace as many Gen Z terms- TikTok. As early as 2021, the concept was scrolled over by social media users multiple times. However, it resurged to the top when Taylor Swift entered into her much-adored and obsessed-over relationship with NFL player Travis Kelce, the ever-smiling and ever-loving beau of the world's boo. 'A golden retriever boyfriend is the human equivalent of a tail wagging, wide-eyed pup who lives to love you,' explained Tiff Baira, host of "Streethearts" and a relationship expert and matchmaker to Cosmopolitan. 'He's sweet, loyal, emotionally available, and basically imprinted on you after the third date.' Think of a Tom Holland, a Nick Jonas, a Jake Peralta or a Jim Halpert. In short, he absolutely contradicts the emotionally unavailable, uninterested and always on the lookout for someone better boyfriend. But does a Golden Retriever Boyfriend exist in real life? Understanding a GRBF Image credits: Getty Images A Golden Retriever Boyfriend values your presence and addition in his life. He pays attention to your likes and dislikes, dos and don'ts and wants and needs. He fits all the adjectives of loving, positive, energetic, loyal and uncomplicated. 'He remembers your coffee order, sends good morning texts unprompted, and genuinely enjoys helping you build IKEA furniture,' added Baira. 'He's not playing games; he's the overly nice and caring type who puts you before himself.' In the era where doom scrolling and app-based dates only get you disappointed, the GRBF comes as a breath of fresh air. As someone who is serious and interested in a relationship. As someone you'd be with after getting your heart broken by a bad boy who seemed like rose-coloured glasses until he wasn't. How to identify if you have a Golden Retriever Boyfriend? Image credits: Getty Images It seems the signs to identify if your boyfriend is a golden retriever are wagging right in front of you. You are the apple of his eyes; he will help you with small things like carrying your grocery bag without asking him to, and he will care for you even in the most basic aspects of life. He is there to be with you, by your side, holding your hand as you both create the life of your dreams. However, if you have a boyfriend who's acting completely opposite to this, then it's time to bark some orders. If you are constantly worried about his whereabouts and friends, if you have to ask him for favours and if he only texts at night, then it's time to reconsider. But hey, there ain't just black and white. There's grey too. This is someone who is a Jeremiah (if you have watched 'The Summer I Turned Pretty). He is nice to get nice. The guy who seems endlessly kind and selfless but secretly has an agenda,' explained Baira. 'If his niceness comes with strings attached, like using your connections, expecting money, or subtly manipulating you, he's not golden; he's gold-plated.' He will only be affectionate in public and go cold when you are alone. He expects gratitude and appreciation for the smallest of tasks, and while he may look like the wind beneath your wings, he wouldn't take a second to clip them if you are flying too high. Is a Golden Retriever Boyfriend the only one? Image credits: Getty Images A Golden Retriever Boyfriend can be a great partner, someone you could imagine getting old with, who you could introduce to your parents and possibly be the father of your kids (if you want to have them). However, just because he seems like the ideal guy, he doesn't have to be your cup of tea. You might not want someone to settle you down and adore you forever; you might want some fire, someone who challenges you. Social media isn't a mirror to real life; it's an escape. It could be that men are following the archetype to finally have a chance in the dating pool, and women are choosing it to make themselves feel like a person who is worthy of a GRBF. If such a boyfriend is for you, then good, but if not, find the one who is more your type. 'My jeans are yellow': Influencer Tiffany Fong, who refused to have Elon Musk's baby, recreates viral Sydney Sweeney ad
Donning a head-to-toe yellow denim ensemble, influencer Tiffany Fong dropped a video recreating and the controversial American Eagle ad. "Handed down by my parents before me and their parents before them, my genes are yellow," Tiffany Fong said as she ate rice with chopsticks, calling it the Asian version of the American Eagle ad. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now There is no wordplay with genes and jeans here, as Tiffany Fong meant only jeans and not genes, unlike the American Eagle advertisement that is at the center of a major controversy. The row has drawn a political line as well, with MAGA leaders blaming the liberals for targeting the advertisement. 'Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality and even eye color. My genes are blue,' Sydney Sweeney said in the viral advertisement, drawing flak for glorifying good genes. American Eagle defended the campaign, saying that it is only about jeans. ''Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans' is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story. We'll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way,' the brand said without bowing down to the pressure. Vice president JD Vance commented on the controversy and said the liberals are attacking everyone who thinks Sydney Sweeney is beautiful. 'And it's like, you guys, did you learn nothing from the November 2024 election? Like I actually thought that one of the lessons they might take is we're going to be less crazy. The lesson they have apparently taken is we're going to attack people as Nazis for thinking Sydney Sweeney is beautiful. Great strategy, guys,' he added. 'That's how you're going to win the midterm, especially young American men. Their course correction lasts about 30 seconds,' Vance said, adding that the Democrats have gone even crazier. While social media users are praising Tiffany Fong's video, she was recently in the news after a report said that she refused to bear Tesla CEO 's baby.

Sydney Sweeney speaks out amid uproar over American Eagle ‘great genes' ad controversy
Sydney Sweeney has subtly made a comeback to social media after receiving harsh criticism for her most recent American Eagle commercial campaign. Sydney Sweeney, facing criticism for her American Eagle ad, quietly returned to social media with a flower post. (Scott A Garfitt/Invision/AP) In July, the 27-year-old Euphoria star was revealed as AE's new face, kicking off the company's fall 2025 campaign that highlighted its denim roots. The advertising campaign, 'Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans,' soon became the subject of social media criticism. The ad featured a video that was widely criticized by users, who accused it of being too sexualized and of exploiting the male gaze. The camera pans around Sydney Sweeney's body as she narrates in the contentious commercial. Sweeney stated, 'My genes determine the composition of my body,' while a camera moved along her torso. 'Hey, eyes up here.' Some social media users compared the marketing to 'Nazi propaganda' because of the wordplay that persisted in other advertising materials, which appeared to be a pun on the word 'genes.' 'Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality and even eye color. My jeans are blue,' Sweeney stated in another advertisement for the brand. 'I will be the friend that's too woke, but those Sydney Sweeney American Eagle ads are weird,' one critic said, adding that 'Like, fascist weird. Like Nazi propaganda weird.' Did Sydney Sweeney just react to the controversy? Sweeney hasn't publicly addressed the criticism of the campaign, but in the days that followed, she made a discreet comeback to social media. The Euphoria star added a white heart sticker to a picture of a bouquet of pale pink flowers that she shared on her Instagram Story on Friday, August 1. It's unknown who sent the flowers or if their purpose was to cheer her up in the face of criticism. Despite Sweeney's silence, American Eagle released a statement on Friday supporting the campaign. The brand wrote, 'Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans' is and always was about the jeans,' on Instagram. 'Her jeans. Her story. We'll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.'
