PM Modi Inaugurates Indore Metro Rail Project, Satna And Datia Airports

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated three significant transportation projects; including the Indore Metro Rail, along with the Satna and Datia airport projects, during his visit to Bhopal.
PM Modi participated in the celebrations commemorating the 300th birth anniversary of Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, the distinguished ruler of Malwa.
The Indore Metro Rail project, the first of its kind in Madhya Pradesh, marks a transformative step in urban transportation.
The Datia airport, for which the foundation stone was laid in 2012 with an initial investment of Rs 21.18 crore, was completed in 2015. It was upgraded into a full-fledged airport in 2023 and became ready for operations by 2024.
The metro network spans 31.3 kilometres, with an initial six-kilometre stretch inaugurated by PM Modi on Saturday.
The first phase includes five stations at Gandhinagar and various points along the Super Corridor. The metro's rolling stock features stainless steel coaches designed with a white and yellow aesthetic, ensuring rust resistance and durability.
A total of 75 coaches are planned for Indore, with 13 three-coach trains already delivered. Each train, measuring 67 meters in length, features advanced safety systems, emergency buttons, intercoms, digital route maps, and LED TVs for passenger information and entertainment.
An audio announcement system is integrated to assist visually impaired commuters.
Indore's transportation evolution traces back more than a century. The Holkar rulers initiated the construction of a rail line to Khandwa in 1870, completed within five years, with operations commencing in 1876.
The first long-distance train service between Indore and Bhopal started in May 1956, and today, approximately 100 trains operate daily from Indore's six platforms.
The metro now joins the city's diverse transit history, which has included various forms of transportation ranging from elephants and horses to bullock carts, tongas, tempos, and bicycles.
The Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited has introduced a third-rail system as an alternative to traditional overhead power lines.
Originally limited to accommodating small planes, the Datia airport underwent a significant expansion with an additional Rs 70 crore investment, enabling ATR and 72-seater aircraft to land on its 1810-meter-long runway, spread over 118 acres.
With its inauguration, direct flight services will commence between Khajuraho and Bhopal. Similarly, the Satna airport, developed with an investment of Rs 30 crore, traces its origins to an airstrip built during World War II.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation granted it a license in 2024 for operations involving 19-seater aircraft. Now capable of handling two aircraft at a time, it boasts a 1200-meter-long runway.
PM Modi also laid the foundation for an ambitious Rs 778 crore project for the construction of ghats along the River Kshipra and transferred the first instalment for the development of 1,271 new Atal panchayat bhavans, a project totalling Rs 483 crore.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav highlighted the historical significance of the day, recalling the Holkar rulers' pioneering efforts in rail infrastructure.
Over 150 years after Indore's first railway line to Khandwa was initiated at a cost of Rs 1 crore, a new Rs 7,500 crore metro rail initiative is now set to provide seamless urban mobility.
PM Modi received an enthusiastic welcome in Bhopal, greeted by a vast gathering of women waving the Tricolour.
Riding in an open jeep, he acknowledged the warmth of the people, accompanied by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and BJP state unit chief VD Sharma.
As part of traditional hospitality, he was welcomed with a 'Sindoor' plant.

Tour operators ask PM Modi for ₹1000 crore allocation to increase foreign tourist arrivals
The Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make an immediate budgetary allocation of ₹1,000 crore under the 'Incredible India' campaign and form an 'India Tourism Board' under the PM's leadership with the specific objective of increasing foreign tourist arrivals (FTA) in the country. The IATO is the national apex body of in-bound tour operators and works closely with the Government and other hospitality stakeholders on policy issues related to foreign tourist arrivals. In a letter to Mr. Modi, the IATO said, going by trends and following discussions with stakeholders, FTA in India has still not touched the 2019 level in the last financial year. Even though foreign tourist arrivals in India have seen a rebound post-pandemic, they are still below pre-pandemic levels. In 2023, foreign tourist arrivals reached 9.52 million, which was 87.09% of the pre-pandemic level of 10.93 million in 2019. The Ministry of Tourism reports that the 2023 numbers were 47.89% higher than in 2022 (6.44 million), but still significantly lower than the 2019 peak. Way below potential The letter dated May 28 said while the importance of in-bound tourism as a precious foreign exchange earner and soft diplomacy tool cannot be over emphasised, India as a destination that offers raw and natural beauty is performing way below its potential. 'These measures are required as the coming season is a few months away, and it can help boost inbound tourism in this financial year,' it said. Ravi Gosain, Ppresident of IATO, said, 'when global trade is facing unprecedented disruptions due to tariff wars and geopolitical shifts, tourism exports remain unaffected. Unlike goods, India's tourism export (i.e., foreign tourists spending in India), which is non-tariff based, brings direct foreign exchange earnings into the country. 'This positions inbound tourism as a stable, sustainable, and immediate contributor to India's current account with valuable foreign exchange, by generating employment, and by helping to balance the forex trade deficit. Yet , regretfully, the country is lagging in its effort to attract foreign tourists.' He added that to enhance FTA numbers besides the steps suggested above, the steps required are: simplified visa facilitation, expanding the scope of e-Visas, fast-tracking group tourist visas, and exploring visa fee waivers for select countries. Further, we need to incentivise international airlines and air charters to improve air connectivity to key tourism circuits, especially to tier-2 and tier-3 destinations.

Indian flyers to double in 5 years, ambition to commercialise space flights: PM Modi
NEW DELHI: India's flyer footfall is projected to more than double from the current 24 crore to almost 50 crore annually by 2030, which is more than the population of many countries, PM Narendra Modi said Monday while showcasing the country's aviation success story at the International Air Transport Association's 81st AGM here. Modi also said India's aviation ambitions included commercial space flights and integrating interplanetary journeys into civil aviation. While these will take time, the country is geared to make this a reality through its prowess in transformation and innovation, he said. PM Modi pointed out that India already had the most inclusive workforce in aviation with 15% of pilots being women, three times the global average of 5%. By 2047, the number of airports will expand to 350 - there are 162 currently in operation - while cargo is expected to increase from 3.5 to 10 million metric tonnes by the end of this decade. India set to become $4bn MRO hub by 2030, says PM Another potential feather in the aviation cap is India becoming a $4 billion maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) hub by 2030, PM Modi said. "India should not be viewed merely as an aviation market, but as a value-chain leader. From design to delivery, India is becoming an integral part of the global aviation supply chain," Modi said, asking the aviation ecosystem to "not just make in India but also design in India". "We are working on a futuristic roadmap to maximise India's potential. In 2014, the country had 74 operational airports, which have now expanded to 162 and will increase to 350 in 2047. We are now the third largest aviation market globally. Our airlines have over 2,000 new aircraft on order," he said. Hosted by IndiGo, the global event is being held in India after 42 years. India had 96 maintenance, repair and overhaul facilities in 2014, which has since increased to 154. This is attributed to 100% FDI under the automatic route, reduced GST and rationalised taxation. "India is more confident than ever before," Modi said, spotlighting "big changes" the country had seen since the time last IATA AGM was held. "Today, India is emerging as a global leader in space-aviation convergence," he said. "There are three foundational pillars driving India's aviation sector: A vast market - not merely a collection of consumers but a reflection of India's aspirational society. A strong demographic and talent pool where young innovators are pioneering breakthroughs in AI, robotics, and clean energy. And finally, an open and supportive policy ecosystem which will take aviation to unprecedented heights," the PM said. The seamless Digi Yatra app for paperless domestic travel came in for special praise, with Modi urging other countries to adopt the same. "Digi Yatra stands as a secure and smart solution, serving as a model of inspiration for the Global South." He also spoke about the work being done in the fields of sustainable aviation fuels, green technologies and reducing carbon footprint. "The new Indian Aircraft Act aligns aviation laws with global best practices, ensuring a streamlined regulatory framework, ease of compliance and a simplified tax structure which presents a significant investment opportunity for major international aviation companies," he said.

PM Modi likely to flag off Vande Bharat train to Srinagar this week

Coming against the backdrop of Pahalgam terror attack that was conceived to reverse tourism-based economic development, running of the first train to Srinagar will be seen as both Centre's continuing commitment to the border state and a message of defiance, sources said. Last month, railways successfully ran its first "trial special train", carrying soldiers, on Katra-Qazigund section, including the Chenab Bridge, which is in the final leg of the stretch that connects Kashmir with the rest of India by rail. "The trains and the security apparatus are in place for operation," a central govt official said. Railways has made changes to Vande Bharat train that will operate between Katra and Srinagar. It has features such as heating systems ensuring smooth operation in cold weather, anti-spall layers, and automatic doors. Katra-Srinagar link is part of Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail project that spans 272km and includes 119km of tunnels. It includes two iconic engineering marvels - the Chenab Bridge and the Anji Khad Bridge. The entire corridor has been completed with an investment of Rs 42,930 crore.
