DBM OKs creation of 16,000 new teaching positions for 2025
Department of Budget and Management Secretary Amenah Pangandaman has approved the creation of 16,000 new teaching positions in public schools for School Year 2025–2026.
In a press release, the DBM said it is in line with President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr.'s directive to strengthen the education sector and ensure sufficient manpower in public schools.
The new teaching positions form the first tranche of the 20,000 positions targeted for creation this year, the DBM said.
'The DBM's approval of the 16,000 new teaching positions is in adherence to our President's directive to strengthen our country's education system. This move is also in support of the Department of Education's efforts to boost the teaching workforce across Kindergarten, Elementary, Junior High School, Senior High School, and the Alternative Learning System,' Pangandaman said in a press release.
The approved new positions include the following:
15,343 Teacher I posts (Salary Grade 11)
157 Special Science Teachers (Salary Grade 13)
500 Special Education (SPED) Teachers (Salary Grade 14)
The DBM said that for added flexibility, the Senior High School teaching positions will be created at the division level. This will allow School Division Superintendents to transfer or reassign them to where they're most needed.
The P4.194 billion needed to fund the new items will come from the Department of Education's built-in appropriations under the 2025 General Appropriations Act, which was specifically earmarked for hiring new school personnel. —AOL, GMA Integrated News

Naghain ng panukalang batas si Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada para alisin na ang senior high school sa ilalim ng basic education ng bansa. Ayon sa senador, bigo umano ang layunin ng K to 12 program na maihanda ang mga estudyanteng magtatapos na makapasok sa trabaho. Paliwanag ni Estrada sa Senate Bill No. 3001, pagkaraan ng 12 taon mula nang ipatupad ang SHS sa ilalim ng K to 12 program, bigo pa rin itong makamit ang pangunahing layunin na mabigyan ng pagkakataon ang mga SHS graduate na makapasok ng trabaho. 'We can't keep letting students and their parents shoulder the extra time and cost of senior high school. Bakit natin hahayaan na patuloy na maging dagdag pasanin sa oras at gastusin ang dalawang taon sa high school level?' ayon kay Estrada sa pahayag. Sa panukalang batas ni Estrada, nais niyang mapanatili ang pangunahing prinsipyo sa Republic Act No. 10533, o Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013. Pero aalisin na ang SHS, 'to simplify the high school system while still making sure students get quality education that meets global standards.' Inirekomenda niya ang isang taon sa kindergarten education, anim na taon sa elementary education, at apat na taon sa secondary education. 'This bill is a practical step to fix our basic education system – make it more efficient, use resources better, and give students a more meaningful learning experience,' ani Estrada. Marcos to look into economic implications of wage hike — Palace
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. will look into the economic implications of the proposed increase in the minimum wage hike for workers, Malacañang said Thursday. According to Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro, Marcos wants to provide what's best for the Filipino workers. ''Nais ng Pangulo na maibigay kung ano ang makakabuti sa manggagawang Pilipino,'' Castro said during a briefing. (The President wants to give the best for the Filipino workers.) With 171 yes votes, zero no votes, and one abstention, the House of Representatives approved on third and final reading the proposed measure granting a P200 increase in the daily minimum wage for workers in the private sector. The House version of the legislated wage hike offers a higher increase than the P100 approved by the Senate. The House and the Senate will have to reconcile the differences at the bicameral conference committee before transmitting the enrolled bill to Malacañang for President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s signature to become a law. Congress has until June 13 or the last session day to reconcile their differing versions of the wage hike measure and ratify the reconciled version for the bill to be ready for the President's signature. Marcos lauds Singapore's role in ensuring survival of Philippine Eagle

"I would like to acknowledge Singapore for ensuring the survival and propagation of some of the Philippines' endemic and endangered species, most notably the Philippine Eagle," Marcos said during a joint press conference with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. Wong is in Manila for a two-day official visit. To recall, it was in 2019 when two Philippine eagles were flown to Singapore as part of a government loan program aimed at securing the population of the critically endangered species. EXPLAINER: Majestic but critically endangered Philippine Eagle However, Geothermica, one of the two Philippine eagles, passed away at the Mandai Wildlife Reserve on September 7, 2023, at the age of 19 years old.
