Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the first phase of the Indore metro project through video link from Bhopal, marking the beginning of the first metro rail service in Madhya Pradesh.Speaking at the Women Empowerment Mega Conference in Bhopal on the occasion of the 300th birth anniversary of Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar, Modi said, "Madhya Pradesh has received its first metro today.Indore has already earned global recognition for its cleanliness. Now, the city will also be known for its metro." Commercial operations started on Saturday on the approximately 6 km 'Super Priority Corridor' between Gandhi Nagar Station and Station No 3 of the 'Super Corridor', officials said.The phase, built at a cost of Rs 1,520 crore, has five metro stations, all named in the honour of prominent women -- Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Terminal, Maharani Lakshmi Bai Station, Rani Avanti Bai Lodhi Station, Rani Durgavati Station and Veerangana Jhalkari Bai Station.The inaugural metro ride from Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Terminal was reserved only for women passengers including a group of sanitation workers.At the inauguration event held in Indore, Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu said, "Prime Minister Modi has given a major gift to Indore in the form of metro rail service. Indore has become the 24th city in the country to launch metro services." Madhya Pradesh Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya said the city has witnessed the evolution of public transport from bullock carts and horse carriages to buses. "Now, with the launch of metro rail, this is a historic moment," he said.The foundation of the Super Priority Corridor, where operations started on Saturday, was laid on September 14, 2019. A trial run on the corridor, located in a newly developed part of the city, was conducted in September 2023.While metro stations in the city are designed to accommodate six-coach trains, currently three-coach trains with a capacity to carry 980 passengers are in operation.A total of 31.32 km of metro network is planned for Indore, the commercial capital of Madhya Pradesh, with an estimated cost of Rs 7,500.8 crore.The complete network will have 28 stations, serving the city which currently has a population of over 35 lakh.

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 2 (ANI): After the Maharashtra government raised objections to increasing the height of the Alamatti dam, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Monday appealed to Union Ministers and MPs from Karnataka to safeguard the state's interests. While addressing a press conference at Vidhana Soudha, DK Shivakumar said, 'As per the Krishna Tribunal's order, Karnataka can increase the height of the Alamatti dam to 524 meters. Maharashtra, who was quiet when the order was pronounced, suddenly wrote a letter to our CM objecting to it. I appeal to all the Union Ministers and MPs with folded hands to protect the state's interest in this.' Shivakumar said that Fadnavis wrote a letter to Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah on May 9 stating that the Sangli and Kolhapur districts would face flooding if the dam's height is raised. He added, 'Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has written a letter to our CM Siddaramaiah on May 9, raising objections to increasing the height of the Alamatti dam. Stating that Sangli and Kolhapur districts would face flooding if the dam's height is raised, the letter has asked for the re-evaluation of the plan. This letter is a shock to us. Maharashtra had never objected to this project till now. They had not raised any issues when the Tribunal passed its judgement in 2010. Maharashtra had even submitted an affidavit to the Tribunal seeking to increase the height, but it is opposing it all of a sudden.' He said that CM Siddaramaiah will reply to the Maharashtra CM's letter. 'This project is our right, as accorded by the Krishna Tribunal. Our CM will give a reply to the letter from the Maharashtra CM. Union Minister V Somanna is part of Union Jal Shakthi ministry. Alamatti project is needed for the state, we don't want friction with our neighbouring state. The cost escalation is very due to delay in this project. We would need Rs 1 lakh crore for land acquisition for this project,' he said. Shivakumar said that Karnataka has been waiting for a Gazette notification to increase the height of Alamatti since 2013 'Flooding in Maharashtra is their internal matter, and they need to fix it. We will meet the PM and the Union Jal Shakthi Minister and put pressure regarding this. Karnataka has been waiting for a Gazette notification for increasing the height of Alamatti since 2013. Gujarat Govt plans Operation Sindoor memorial park near Pakistan border in Kutch
THE GUJARAT government is working on a memorial park dedicated to Operation Sindoor — India's military response to terror emanating from Pakistan — as a mark of respect for the defence forces as well as the unity the nation displayed, officials told The Indian Express. The memorial, which will be called 'Sindoor Van' (forest), will come up in Kutch district on the India-Pakistan border, which bore the brunt of the attacks in Gujarat from the other side. The memorial is expected to be completed in about a year and a half, officials said, adding that initial work has begun on the ground. 'In memory of the unity exhibited by society, Army, Air Force, BSF and other forces during Operation Sindoor, the Sindoor Van — a memorial park — is being planned by the forest department,' Kutch Collector Anand Patel told The Indian Express. The high density forest or a 'van kavach' will come up over eight hectares of land belonging to the forest department in Mirzapar on the Bhuj-Mandvi road. The land includes the part where Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a public meeting during his first visit to Gujarat after Operation Sindoor, Collector Patel said. During the May 26 public meeting, the Prime Minister was gifted a 'sindoor plant' by women from Madhapar who had helped repair the Bhuj air base runway within 72 hours during the 1971 war. In his address, Modi had said that he will take the plant to the PM House where it will turn into a 'vatvriksh' (banyan tree). The Sindoor Van will also have an area dedicated to the victims of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. Three of the 26 Pahalgam victims were from Gujarat. 'Sindoor Van will be a theme-based memorial park based on Operation Sindoor with a high-density plantation, including herbs, shrubs and trees, on eight hectares of land. This will take a form of a van kavach or a micro forest in an urban area with Sindoor plants dominantly planted as well as murals which will be developed in different sections like BSF, Army, Air Force, Navy,' said Sandeep Kumar, Chief Conservator of Forests, Kutch Circle. Suiting the local environment and soil conditions, around 35 plant species have been identified along with Sindoor plants. 'We have planned 10,000 plants per hectare, which will be one of the densest forests in Bhuj,' Kumar said. Visitors to the Sindoor Van will also experience dioramas of combat equipment and aircraft used during Operation Sindoor. During Operation Sindoor, more than 600 missiles and drones from across the border were thwarted by security forces in Bhuj sector in Gujarat and Barmer sector in Rajasthan, Inspector General of the BSF's Gujarat frontier Abhishek Pathak had said during a briefing last week. Of this, IG Pathak said, 'About 40 per cent of the attacks were in Gujarat while the rest were in the Barmer sector.'
