Shukri Conrad named Proteas all-format head coach.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced the appointment of Shukri Conrad as the Proteas men's all-format head coach.
Conrad, who has led the Test side since January 2023, will now take charge of the white-ball formats starting with the T20 International tri-series against Zimbabwe and New Zealand in July.
The 58-year-old will oversee the national team across all formats through to the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027, which will be hosted on home soil.
This appointment forms part of CSA's broader restructuring of the national team strategy, which includes the reintroduction of a National Convenor of Selection.
CSA Director of National Teams and High Performance, Enoch Nkwe commented: 'Shukri's track record with the red-ball team speaks for itself. He has laid a solid foundation and instilled a strong identity within the Test environment. I'm excited to see him bring the profile and structure to the white-ball space.
'Having been part of the national setup over the past two years, he understands the demands of international cricket. He has also established sound relationships with the players and we have no doubt that he is the best person for the job. We are confident he will help us maintain our current upward trajectory and remain competitive across all three formats.'
Shukri Conrad said: 'I'm truly honoured to be entrusted with the responsibility of leading the national team across all three formats. Coaching the Test side has been the greatest privilege of my cricket journey, and to now oversee the white-ball teams as well is something unbelievably special.
'I'm genuinely excited about the prospects that lie ahead. South African cricket has incredible white-ball talent, from the calibre of our senior players to the emerging group of juniors aspiring to represent the Proteas. There's a strong foundation to build on, and I believe we have what it takes to achieve something special.
'We have a busy schedule ahead, starting with the WTC Final next month, the T20 World Cup next year and our very own 50-over World Cup to follow the year after.
'During this period, planning will be key for us as we look to manage our player base to ensure that the strongest teams can be fielded in every format. We want to obviously be the best in the world in all three forms of the game and that is no doubt my number one target and goal for the Proteas.'
Conrad's next assignment will be the ICC World Test Championship Final against Australia, taking place from 11-15 June at Lord's in London.

Time for Temba Bavuma to silence critics against Australia in WTC final after Proteas batting collapse

TEMBA TIME Temba Bavuma will aim to silence critics with a resilient innings on day two as South Africa battles Australia in the World Test Championship final after a Proteas batting collapse. Picture: Rodger Bosch / AFP The leader of the Proteas attack, however, showed his class with 5/51 as Australia were bowled out shortly after lunch on the opening day. The drug was later confirmed to be cocaine. By the time Rabada made the announcement, he had just about completed his one-month ban and swiftly returned to action for the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Rabada, 30, was at the centre of a controversy the last couple of months, after he announced at the end of April he had tested positive for a banned recreational drug. It was extremely satisfying as Kagiso Rabada provided a starring role in bowling Australia out for 212 on day one of the World Test Championship final at Lord's on Wednesday, but now after a Proteas batting collapse it's up to Temba Bavuma and his charges to fight back. Bavuma Stands Firm Amid Proteas' Batting Collapse Against Australia's Pace Attack It was then the turn of the Proteas batsmen to drop the hammer when they came into bat, but they only succeeded in bludgeoning their own thumbs as they were reduced to 43/4. That 212 of Australia suddenly seemed like a long way away. Aiden Markram (0), Ryan Rickelton (16), Wiaan Mulder (6) and Tristan Stubbs (2) were all back in the hut in a flash with the Aussie pace attack Mitchell Starc (2/10), Josh Hazlewood (1/10) and Pat Cummins (1/14) running riot. Bavuma, though, held firm coming in at number four and dropped the anchor for his team as he remained not out with 3 from 37 balls. As the Proteas skipper is the most experienced batsman in the Proteas batting lineup, this situation is tailor-made for his resilient character. Bavuma has often played his best knocks when the SA innings is crumbling around him, and on Thursday he will have the chance to see off the new ball, which is 22 overs old. With David Bedingham (8 not out) at the other end, Bavuma will have a partner looking to prove himself against the mighty Australia. Historically, Bavuma has also been criticised for not scoring more hundreds, but he has notched two of his four centuries in the format in the last year. It's the perfect time then, for Bavuma to score possibly the most important big score of his career, and it won't be surprising if he does just that. @Michael_Sherman IOL Sport * The views expressed are not necessarily the views of IOL or Independent Media. ** JOIN THE CONVERSATION: Send us an email with your comments, thoughts or responses to iolletters@ Letters should be a maximum of 500 words, and may be edited for length. Percy Tau on his next club: ‘Let's not rule out Orlando Pirates!'

Percy Tau has been released by his Qatari club, Qatar SC sending teams locally and abroad on high alert. Kaizer Chiefs are known to be on the market for experienced forwards and Tau could certainly be available timorously. Tau had only joined Qatar SC in January from Al Ahly, in what has proven to be an extremely short stint. The South African international played just 10 times for the club, in an injury ravaged spell. He failed to find the back of the net during his time there, but was able to register four assists in the process. Tau proved to be one of several exits announced by the club on Thursday, including head coach Mehdi Natfi. Several other players; Ben Malango, Javi Martinez, Badr Benoun, Carlinhos Vinicius and Ahmed Abdelkader, who's loan ends and returns to Al Ahly. It now remains to be seen where the Lion of Judah ends up next as he becomes a free agent. Before signing for Qatar, there had been rumours of interesting in Iran, North Africa as well as South Africa. On home soil it has been Chiefs who have prominently been linked with the player over the years. During the previous close season, it was claimed that Amakhosi had made inquiries and even bids for Tau, but could not meet Al Ahly's valuation. After admitting that he supported Chiefs growing up but still loves Mamelodi Sundowns, Tau made an Orlando Pirates admission. 'I'd Listen to anybody, let's not rule out Orlando Pirates, or even Stellenbosch, SuperSport (United). I'll not rule out anyone. My decision will be based on who gives me a contract. Of course Sundowns still has my love, but then it will be based on who gives me a contract because at the end of the day, I still have to support my family. So just because I love the club it doesn't mean ill stick around for any offer' said Tau. Pirates fans would you be happy to have Tau sign for your club? Let us know by clicking on the comment tab.
