On May 3, Lady Gaga made history . The superstar singer-songwriter and actress performed at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro at a special event she titled Mayhem on the Beach. The show was staged to build anticipation for her upcoming Mayhem Ball concert trek, which will see her touring the world later this year in support of her latest album, Mayhem .
The free concert shattered records, giving Gaga the distinction of hosting the most-attended free show by any female performer in history. A reported 2.1 million people turned out, breaking the previous record. That showing had been set by Madonna one year earlier – almost exactly to the day – when 1.6 million fans gathered at the same location during a stop on her Celebration Tour.
The excitement surrounding Gaga's Brazilian performance — both from fans in the country and others around the globe who watched clips and scrolled through photos on social media — helped propel several of her biggest hits to new heights on Spotify.
On Sunday (May 4), the day after the concert, Gaga occupied seven spots on the platform's daily ranking of the most-played tunes globally. Four of those tunes reached new, never-before-seen peaks thanks to the show – an impressive feat considering how successful they had already become throughout their lifespans.
The highest riser was "Poker Face," Gaga's second breakout smash. That tune surged more than 20 positions to settle at No. 37, once again ranking as one of the biggest hits in the world. Two other tracks that are more than a decade old — "Judas" and "Bad Romance" — also soared to new summits, climbing dozens of spots to reach Nos. 57 and 68, respectively.
"Just Dance," the single that launched Gaga into a household name more than 15 years ago, also enjoyed a major leap. The collaboration with Colby O'Donis – who was the bigger star when it was new – improved by more than two dozen spaces to land at No. 86, a new peak.
Several other Gaga tracks appeared on Spotify's daily global tally at the same time that those classics hit new high points. She and Bruno Mars continued to lead with "Die With a Smile," which has now spent nearly 200 days as the most-streamed tune around the world. Her current single, "Abracadabra," taken from Mayhem , returned to the top 10 as it bolted to No. 9. Closer to the bottom of the list, her Oscar-winning duet with Bradley Cooper, "Shallow," reentered at No. 157.

Sabrina Carpenter's 'Manchild' Is Clawing Toward a Hot 100 #1 Debut
Sabrina Carpenter is no longer the rising pop princess. She's a fully formed femme fatale with diamond fangs, and her latest venom-laced single, 'Manchild,' is biting deep into the Billboard charts and possibly clawing its way to a #1 debut on the Hot 100. What started as a sleek feminist kiss-off has exploded into a bona fide streaming juggernaut, and as of this moment, Sabrina is in a deadly close race with TikTok heartthrob Alex Warren's 'Ordinary' for the top spot. According to projections, the songs are now within just 10 chart points of each other, an astonishingly tight margin that could tip in Sabrina's favor if her streaming momentum continues through the week. 'Manchild' didn't just whisper its way onto streaming platforms it stomped in, six-inch heels and all. The track debuted at #1 on the Global Spotify Chart on June 6 with a staggering 8.05 million streams worldwide, marking the biggest debut of the year by a female artist. Let's be very clear: this isn't just a fluke. These numbers obliterate the previous 2025 record set by Chappell Roan's 'The Giver' and cement Sabrina as not just a pop girl but a pop girl. In the U.S. specifically, 'Manchild' dropped jaws with 3.3 million streams on its first day, giving it a firm grip on the #1 spot on the U.S. Spotify Chart. That's right: Sabrina Carpenter is topping streaming charts in the same week as new releases from Post Malone, Cardi B, and even a surprise drop from The Weeknd. The girl is unfazed, unbothered, and undeniably unstoppable. Here's the breakdown of 'Manchild''s first three days on Spotify: Day 1: 8,752,217 Day 2: 4,766,328 Day 3: 4,526,518 (down only 5.03% from the day before) Total so far? A cool 18,045,063 streams. And she's just getting started. Sabrina isn't just relying on vibes she's playing this game with ruthless pop star precision. 'Manchild' has been discounted to 69 cents on digital platforms, making it one of the best-selling singles of the week on U.S. iTunes, where it now sits pretty at #1. This is Sabrina's first #1 on iTunes, and with digital sales factored heavily into Billboard's Hot 100 formula, this price drop could be the razor-sharp move that slices Alex Warren's lead. For those doing the math: digital sales + massive streaming + Spotify dominance + strong radio adds starting this weekend equals a serious threat for a #1 debut. Let's not ignore the elephant in the studio: 'Manchild' is a banger. It's a breathless, flirtatious slap in the face to immature men wrapped in syrupy vocals and a glossy, hyper-pop beat. It's 'thank u, next' for the Gen Z TikTok generation—but with better shoes and sharper claws. The lyrics? Savage. The delivery? Pornographicly confident. And if TikTok is any indication (over 350,000 video creations and counting), the girls, gays, and emotionally neglected situationships are all eating it up. Here's what we know. Alex Warren's 'Ordinary' has been the sleeper hit of the season, riding high on streaming and viral sentimentality. But streaming alone won't be enough to guarantee him the top spot if Sabrina keeps firing on all cylinders. If 'Manchild' continues to hold its streaming velocity and expands its sales lead through the week and if radio jumps in with last-minute spins it's entirely possible that Sabrina Carpenter could debut at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 next Monday. That would make her the first solo female artist to debut at #1 in 2025 a stat that's almost too poetic for a song this petty and perfect. The narrative has shifted. Sabrina isn't just the girl next door with a pretty voice she's a chart-dominating pop dominatrix, and 'Manchild' is her scorched-earth campaign against the industry's lingering doubt. Every stream, every sale, every sexy smirk in the song's viral lyric video is evidence: this woman came to conquer. So buckle up. The Hot 100 is about to get very, very interesting and Sabrina Carpenter might just be sitting at the top of it all. 11 essential Brian Wilson songs, from surf rock to ‘Pet Sounds'
If you enjoy most any kind of pop music, you're a cork in Brian Wilson's ocean. The principal songwriter and sonic architect of the Beach Boys, he bottled the vibes of Southern California — and really, the American optimism of the early 1960s — in dozens of hits (many of which contain the word 'surf') before creating what is by broad consensus one of the great rock records of his or any era, 'Pet Sounds.' No one needs an introduction to this catalogue; it remains encoded in music's DNA. But we have some favorites. Don't you?

BTS Almost Charts A New No. 1 Song In America
BTS is inching closer and closer to a proper reunion, which may result in new music arriving as early as late summer, or perhaps this fall. Two of the seven members of the group, RM and V, were discharged from the South Korean military this week, after completing their tour of duty, which is required of all men by a certain age in the nation. While the group is not fully formed just yet – but all seven singers will likely be finished with thor service soon – fans of BTS recently turned their attention to a years-old cut and almost turned it into a No. 1 hit in America this week. The boy band returns to the tally as "00:00 (Zero O'Clock)" reenters the list at No. 2, missing out on ruling by just one space. That position marks a new high point for the cut, which reaches its peak seven frames into its time on the tally — but years after it was initially shared on the septet's 2020 album Map of the Soul: 7. BTS is beaten to the summit on the World Digital Song Sales ranking by "Shake It to the Max (Fly)," which has become a global smash. The tune is credited to four artists – Moliy, Silent Addy, Skillibeng and Shenseea – and it has now spent three of its 12 frames on this tally running the show. While BTS doesn't manage to score a new champion on the World Digital Song Sales chart this week, the septet has already reached that coveted position dozens of times in the past. The South Korean musical troupe has thus far collected 37 No. 1s and a total of 117 top 10 smashes, including "00:00 (Zero O'Clock)." As BTS returns to the World Digital Song Sales chart, the group also claims one space on the World Albums tally. The group's compilation Proof dips one spot to No. 10, which means that troupe fills one space inside the highest tier on both of Billboard's world rankings as of this frame. Proof has now spent 156 weeks — exactly three years — on the World Albums chart.
