BTS' Jin lands 3rd solo entry on Billboard Hot 100
Jin of BTS entered Billboard's Hot 100 at No. 90 with his single 'Don't Say You Love Me.' It is his third solo entry on the main singles chart, following 'The Astronaut' from 2022 and 'Running Wild' from last year. The former, his first solo single, ranked No. 51 while the latter, the focus track from Jin's first EP 'Happy,' entered at No. 53. 'Don't Say You Love Me' fronted his second EP, 'Echo,' which claimed the No. 3 spot on Billboard 200, one spot higher than his previous album. The recent release also claimed the No. 1 spot on Spotify's Top Songs Global chart last week, making him the fourth solo K-pop artist to do so. Currently, Jin is preparing for his first solo fan concert tour set to begin on June 28 in Korea.

Spotify CEO says AI is no threat to music industry, but a tool for creatives
Artificial intelligence will encourage more people to create music in the future and is not a threat to the industry, the founder and CEO of streaming giant Spotify said. Advertisement Artists using machine-learning tools to produce music have given rise to concerns about whether AI-generated music – even entirely fake artists – could one day replace human artists. 'I'm mostly optimistic and mostly very excited because we're just in the beginning of understanding this future of creativity that we're entering,' Daniel Ek said at an open house at the company's headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden, this week. Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter and a recent book, Mood Machine, have accused Spotify of tasking a handful of producers to make thousands of songs under fake AI profiles, which the company allegedly pushed onto playlists – saving Spotify money by elbowing out real artists and their higher royalties. AI to spur more music creativity, not a threat: Spotify CEO
AFP | Artificial intelligence will encourage more people to create music in the future and is not a threat to the industry, the founder and CEO of streaming giant Spotify said. Artists using machine-learning tools to produce music have given rise to concerns about whether AI-generated music -- even entirely fake artists -- could one day replace human artists. "I'm mostly optimistic and mostly very excited because we're just in the beginning of understanding this future of creativity that we're entering," Daniel Ek told reporters at an Open House at the company's Stockholm headquarters this week. Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter and a recent book, "Mood Machine", have accused Spotify of tasking a handful of producers to make thousands of songs under fake AI profiles, which the company allegedly pushed onto playlists -- saving Spotify money by elbowing out real artists and their higher royalties. Spotify has denied the claims. "We want real humans to make it as artists and creators, but what is creativity in the future with AI? I don't know. What is music?" Ek said. He recalled that electronic dance music and the DJ culture, and before that, hip hop where people sampled music, were initially not considered "real music". Noting that Mozart had to compose entire symphonies in his head, Ek said that "now, any one of us can probably create a beat in five or 10 minutes". "The tools that we now have in our availability are just staggering." "Of course there are very scary potential applications for AI, but the more interesting thing for me is that the amount of creativity that creative people will have available at their fingertips is going to be insane," he said. "The barriers for creation are becoming lower and lower. More and more people will create," he said. Ek said he saw the development of AI in the music industry "much more as an evolution than a revolution". Spotify had 678 million active users at the end of March, including 268 million paying subscribers. Ek said the company, which turned its first annual profit in 2024, now had 100 million paying subscribers in Europe alone, and hoped to one day see a billion paying users worldwide. "I don't think there's any doubt in my mind that the potential for Spotify at some point is to eventually get to over a billion paying subscribers."

Taylor Swift did not win a thing at this year's AMAs. Her fans have some theories why
The world's biggest pop star won nothing at the American Music Awards this year – and her fans are furious. Despite nominations in six categories, including artist of the year, album of the year and favourite touring artist, Taylor Swift failed to snatch any trophies. She also didn't show up, despite rampant fan-fuelled rumours that she would announce the release of Reputation (Taylor's Version) on-stage. Swift's absence is not altogether surprising. She has only attended two major events this year so far – the Grammys and the Super Bowl. She didn't even attend events in which she won prizes, including the iHeartRadio Music Awards and Billboard Music Awards. So her absence wasn't completely surprising. However, Swifties aren't buying it. The AMAs is unofficially known as Swift's award show darling. She holds the record for the most AMAs won in history, having raked in 40 trophies. Given it's a fan-voted award show, Swift's success is largely thanks to her incredibly loyal following. Swifties span the globe, are willing to spend thousands of dollars on her shows and merchandise, and even get involved in who she dates. Because of them, Swift was Spotify's Global Top Artist last year, drawing over 82 million monthly listeners. Yet, Swift won nothing. The public favoured Billie Eilish in multiple categories, including best album and artist. Arguably, the most surprising loss, however, was in the favourite touring artist category. Eilish prevailed once again for her Hit Me Hard and Soft tour, even though Swift's Eras tour grossed over $US1 ($A1.5) billion in just eight months – making it the highest-grossing tour of all time – and broke attendance records. Swifties were certain the singer had been leaving Easter eggs in the lead-up to the show, such as by reorganising her website menu to spell out 'AMAs' ('Apparel, Music, Accessories, Sale') and reducing certain sale items by 26 per cent (the date of the awards). So, her fans quickly began speculating over why she didn't show up, and why she was 'snubbed'.
