Franklin Templeton Continues Expansion of Alternatives Platform with Agreement to Acquire Apera
LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Franklin Resources, Inc. [NYSE: BEN], a global investment management organisation operating as Franklin Templeton, today announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire a majority interest in Apera Asset Management ('Apera'), a pan-European private credit firm with over €5 billion in assets under management ('AUM'). The acquisition will expand Franklin Templeton's global alternatives platform and its direct lending capabilities across Europe's growing lower middle market.
With the acquisition of Apera, Franklin Templeton's global alternative credit AUM would increase to $87 billion and the firm's total pro-forma alternative asset AUM would grow to approximately $260 billion, each as of 30 April, 2025, reinforcing its position as a leading manager of diversified alternative asset strategies. Apera will be complementary to Franklin Templeton's existing global alternative credit offerings, alongside Benefit Street Partners in the U.S. and Alcentra in Europe, further diversifying the firm's geographic exposure and capabilities within the private credit asset class.
Founded in 2016, Apera provides senior secured private capital solutions to private equity-backed companies in Western Europe. Headquartered in London, with offices in Germany, France, and Luxembourg, Apera has built a strong track record of disciplined underwriting and deep sponsor relationships and brings differentiated capabilities and expertise in the pan-European lower middle market - a segment that remains underserved relative to the broader private credit landscape. Apera recently closed its third flagship fund family at €2.9 billion, exceeding its target and reflecting investor demand for access to European private credit.
'This transaction with Franklin Templeton marks an exciting new chapter for Apera,' said Klaus Petersen, Founding Partner of Apera. 'We share a long-term vision centered on performance and responsible growth. With Franklin Templeton's global scale and clear commitment to alternatives, we are well-positioned to accelerate the growth of our strategy and expand our reach while continuing to deliver for our investors.'
'Apera is a strong strategic fit for our platform,' said David Manlowe, CEO of Benefit Street Partners. 'Their focus on the European lower middle market adds a new dimension to our global private credit capabilities. It's a segment distinct from those served by BSP and Alcentra, and one where Apera's local expertise and disciplined underwriting approach provide access to attractive, risk-adjusted returns.'
'The acquisition of Apera reflects our continued commitment to building a world-class global alternatives platform,' said Jenny Johnson, CEO of Franklin Templeton. 'We are pleased to welcome Apera's outstanding team and believe our combined capabilities will deliver even greater value to clients globally.'
This transaction is expected to close in Q3 2025, subject to customary regulatory approvals and closing conditions.

Morgan Stanley Issues an Equal Weight Rating For Parker-Hannifin Corporation (PH)
On June 5, Morgan Stanley launched coverage of Parker-Hannifin Corporation (NYSE:PH) with an Equal Weight rating, assigning a price target of $700. This rating is in line with Parker-Hannifin's shift towards a secular business model, scaling its Aero division, and strengthening its position in long-cycle industrial markets by conducting mergers and acquisitions. A technician using advanced radiographic testing equipment to inspect an aircraft. Morgan Stanley analysts observed that this business transformation has led to a higher trading multiple for PH compared to historical metrics, which is demonstrated by its PE ratio of 25.3x and a strong ROE of 27%. Parker-Hannifin Corporation (NYSE:PH)'s string of successful business acquisitions further boosts its present valuation. Nevertheless, the analysts reflected on possible challenges, such as securing mid-single digit growth numbers organically in its industrial segment, which could cancel out the ongoing margin gains forecasted for PH. Parker-Hannifin Corporation (NYSE:PH) is an Ohio-based global manufacturer specializing in motion and control technologies, with the business catering to the industrial, mobile, and aerospace sectors. Top aircraft and engine manufacturers worldwide use PH's flight control, hydraulic, fuel-inerting, fluid handling, thermal management, pneumatic, and lubrication systems. While we acknowledge the potential of PH as an investment, our conviction lies in the belief that some AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns and have limited downside risk. Jefferies Downgrades Chewy (CHWY) to Hold, Flags Valuation Concerns
On June 5, Jefferies downgraded Chewy, Inc. (NYSE:CHWY) to Hold from Buy, highlighting concerns over valuation. Despite that, the price target was raised to $43 from $41, and the analysts observed that Chewy's stock has surged 41% year-to-date. A close-up shot of a store shelf stocked with pet food and supplies. The analysts had reservations about Chewy's capacity to outperform Street estimates in the upcoming Q1 results, to be released on June 11. Jefferies observed that Chewy, Inc. (NYSE:CHWY) is seeing gains from sponsored ads and data-driven insights from its website and mobile application. However, the analysts believe that the current share price has already factored in these positive developments, which can temper potential gains outside of management's projected guidance. The downgrade happened because of Chewy's valuation, as analysts see limited scope for price appreciation. Jefferies maintains a conservative stance regarding the company's future performance. Chewy, Inc. Jefferies Initiates Coverage of Excelerate Energy (EE) with a Buy Recommendation
Jefferies began coverage of Excelerate Energy, Inc. (NYSE:EE) on June 5, assigning the stock a Buy rating with a $39 price target, indicating an average upside potential of approximately 31%. Jefferies analysts noted that the company stands to profit from long-term LNG (liquefied natural gas) demand via its Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) and regas infrastructure, which signals consistent cash flows and limited commodity risk in the future. A bird's eye view of a natural gas pipeline stretching across the landscape. To capitalize on the LNG demand, Excelerate Energy, Inc. (NYSE:EE) is increasing its assets and enhancing integration by building a new FSRU, signing LNG Sale and Purchase Agreements (SPA), and purchasing New Fortress Energy Inc. (NASDAQ:NFE)'s LNG-to-power Jamaican assets. These tactical plays by EE are projected to strengthen its growth, combined with its solid financials and controlled debt. As Excelerate Energy, Inc. (NYSE:EE) slows down capital expenditure that supports its growth, analysts expect future free cash flow to increase, which in turn can possibly elevate its capital returns and valuation. The Buy rating shows Jefferies' confidence in the company's capacity to make strategic use of its existing infrastructure and contracts for sustained growth and value generation in the future. Excelerate Energy, Inc. (NYSE:EE) is a Texas-based provider of liquefied natural gas (LNG) solutions, specializing in regasification services using floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) and building supporting infrastructure. While we acknowledge the potential of EE as an investment, our conviction lies in the belief that some AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns and have limited downside risk.
