No Change of Guard ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan on August 2, 9, and 16
The change of guard ceremony is a military tradition that is held every week to enable a fresh group of the President's Bodyguards to take charge.
"The change of guard ceremony will not take place on August 2, 9 and 16, 2025, at the Forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan as the Ceremonial Battalion will be engaged in the rehearsal for the upcoming guard of honour for the visiting Head of State and the Independence Day ceremony," the statement issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan said.

President of the Philippines, Ferdinand R Marcos Jr., is slated to visit India from August 4 to 8. During the visit, he will meet President Droupadi Murmu and hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.

Hold letter writing initiative thanking armed forces, police: DoE to schools
As a part of Independence Day celebrations and 'Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign', the Directorate of Education (DoE) has directed schools to hold various patriotic events, including a letter writing initiative with students addressing letters to the personnel of the armed rorces and the police. 'Letter writing drive should be organised on August 11, wherein students will write letters addressed to Armed Forces and police personnel. Schools shall coordinate with the Department of Posts for facilitating the dispatch of the letters to nearby police stations or Army headquarters/station,' read a DoE circular. The DoE also suggested subjects for the letters like 'dedicated service in ensuring safety and security', 'appreciation for their sacrifices in working tirelessly, even during festivals and holidays' and 'feeling motivated by their bravery and dedication'. School principals said that such programmes have been held earlier too, before Independence Day. Other scheduled events are school wall decoration, Tricolour-inspired art, Tricolour rakhi and brooch-making workshops.

Maharashtra to introduce NCC-style training from Class 1: Dadaji Bhuse
The Maharashtra government is planning to introduce training on the lines of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) from as early as Class 1, School Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse said on Tuesday. He held detailed discussions with senior NCC officials to explore the feasibility of this plan. At a meeting held at the Mantralaya, the discussion focused on expanding the NCC's reach across the state, the nature of the training, and the human resources required for it, a government release stated. The meeting was attended by School Education Department Principal Secretary Ranjit Singh Deol and Education Commissioner Sachindra Pratap Singh. 'As part of our effort to nurture national pride among students, this year's Independence Day celebrations will include patriotic-themed drills performed by students,' Bhuse said. He added that efforts would be made to increase the number of NCC training centres in the state and encourage more schools to participate. The state also plans to approach the central government for support in expanding the programme's reach. The minister further mentioned that retired army personnel could be enlisted to help train students, with support from the state's ex-servicemen welfare board. Maharashtra currently has 7 NCC groups and 63 units, covering 1,726 schools and colleges, with over 1.14 lakh students receiving training. They revealed that plans are in place to expand 10 more centres soon, which will add an additional 20,314 students to the programme.

Chairing a high-level review meeting on Wednesday, the CM said the annual observance was more than a celebration, but a symbol of our national identity, pride and honour.
