DCSO asking for help identifying suspect/vehicle involved in March business burglary
MENTONE, Ala. (WHNT) — The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office said it is asking for help identifying the person and/or vehicle involved in a business burglary in March.
According to the sheriff's office, the burglary they are seeking information on happened at a business in Mentone on March 3 around 4:30 a.m.
DCSO said the suspect vehicle is possibly a Volkswagen Tiguan that is dark in color. The sheriff's office said the suspect appears to be a white male with a slender build.

Hinckley plane crash leaves 1 man dead, 3-year-old with injuries
A plane crash in Hinckley left one person dead Saturday afternoon, according to the Hinckley Fire Protection District. Around 2:33 p.m. on Saturday, officials responded to a plane that crashed in a farm field west of Hinckley Airfield. The pilot, a 51-year-old man from Maple Park, was extracted from the plane and given emergency medical aid, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries on the scene, officials said. His identity has not yet been released to the public. A boy, 3, who was a passenger in the plane crash also sustained non-life-threatening injuries. He was transported to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb and later transferred to Lurie Children's Hospital in stable condition, the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office said. The plane that crashed was a single-engine 1946 Aerona 7 AC, the sheriff's office said. The NTSB and the FAA are investigating the crash.

Man accused of shooting, killing family member in altercation, police say
LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — The Limestone County Sheriff's Office said a man is accused of shooting and killing a family member Friday. LCSO said around 7 p.m., deputies responded to a shooting incident in the 17000 block of Kelley Drive in Athens. Upon arrival, LCSO said deputies found the body of Todd Robert Jennett, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Also at the scene was Michael Stephen Esposito, 63, of Athens, Alabama. After securing the scene, investigators began a thorough investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that Jennett and Esposito, his stepfather, had been involved in a verbal altercation that escalated. During the dispute, Esposito reportedly produced a firearm and shot Jennett multiple times. Michael Esposito was taken into custody at the scene without incident and was transported to the Limestone County Jail. Judge orders man committed to state mental hospital after threat to destroy fire station
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — A Huntsville man charged with making threats against a Huntsville Fire Department station has been committed to the Alabama Department of Mental Health after a judge found his mental illness makes him a threat to himself or others. Madison County Circuit Judge Chris Comer said Friday that, based on two mental health evaluations of Craig Emerson and a subsequent hearing, Emerson is mentally ill and should remain in ADMH custody for treatment and therapy. State will seek death penalty against Huntsville man charged with killing 2 women in 2023 Emerson, 58, entered a plea of not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect to a charge of making terroristic threats. According to court documents, in 2021, Emerson threatened to blow up Huntsville Fire Station #5, prompting an investigation by local authorities. Due to concerns about his mental health, he was evaluated and subsequently committed to a state mental health facility for treatment in 2023. Records show he had mental health evaluations in February 2023 and November 2024. The court ordered that Emerson remain in the custody of the ADMH without being released unless authorized by the court. State court records show Emerson was previously arrested on multiple arson charges. In February 2013, he was charged with two counts of first-degree arson and one count of attempted arson after reportedly throwing Molotov cocktails into occupied homes in Huntsville. He pleaded guilty in 2015 to a count of first-degree attempted arson. Records show he was sentenced to 10 years in prison, but that sentence was suspended to time served and five years probation.
