‘Our foremost priority': Iran offers to mediate between India, Pakistan
As tensions between India and Pakistan rose in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attacks, Iran on Friday offered to mediate between the two neighbours.
This message came at a time when Delhi and Islamabad had launched diplomatic measures against each other, following the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed.
Iran Foreign minister Abbas Araghchi posted on X, 'India and Pakistan are brotherly neighbors of Iran, enjoying relations rooted in centuries-old cultural and civilisational ties. Like other neighbors, we consider them our foremost priority.'
'Tehran stands ready to use its good offices in Islamabad and New Delhi to forge greater understanding at this difficult time, in line with the spirit taught by Persian poet Saadi: 'Human Beings are members of a whole, In creation of one essence and soul, If one member is inflicted with pain, Other members uneasy will remain'.
Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday spoke to his Saudi Arabian counterpart Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud about the Pahalgam terror attack and its cross-border linkages.
'Had a telecon with Foreign Minister @FaisalbinFarhan of Saudi Arabia. Discussed the Pahalgam terrorist attack and its cross-border linkages,' he wrote on X. The Saudi Foreign minister also spoke to Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign minister Deputy Ishaq Dar amid regional tensions between two neighbouring states. According to a statement from Pakistan Foreign Office, Dar briefed his Saudi counterpart on the recent decisions taken by Pakistan's National Security Committee in light of rising tensions with India.
PM Narendra Modi was in Saudi Arabia when the Pahalgam terror attack took place. He cut short his trip and returned home following the terror attack in Pahalgam.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia agreed to further elevate their strategic partnership during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's visit to the country. Mr. Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Friday (June 7, 2025) reaffirmed their mutual commitment to deepening the multi-faceted relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, The Express Tribune reported. An official statement said the decision to elevate the strategic relations was taken under the "shared vision of the leadership and aspirations of the brotherly people of the two countries". Mr. Sharif, who arrived in Saudi Arabia on Thursday, met the Saudi Crown Prince in Makkah, a day after the conclusion of Hajj. The Prime Minister was accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and Minister for Interior Syed Mohsin Naqvi. Mr. Sharif extended warm Eid greetings to King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Prince Mohammed bin Salman, commending the kingdom's hospitality and service to the pilgrims from around the world who are in Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj. He expressed gratitude for the remarkable efforts of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Crown Prince in ensuring a safe and spiritually fulfilling pilgrimage experience. Mr. Sharif also expressed appreciation for the Kingdom's proactive role during recent tensions between Pakistan and India, and its steadfast commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region and beyond. The two leaders also held detailed discussions on the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza. The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction on the growing momentum of bilateral cooperation in the political, economic and security domains, reaffirming the deep-rooted, strategic, and fraternal ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Mr. Sharif extended a cordial invitation to the crown prince to undertake an official visit to Pakistan at his earliest convenience, which the prince graciously accepted.

Pakistan reacts as PM Modi says Islamabad involved in Pahalgam attack
Pakistan said on Friday it was "dismayed" over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks that Islamabad was involved in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 civilians were killed. Commenting on PM Modi's remarks, Pakistan's Foreign Office said it "firmly rejects the baseless and misleading remarks" made by PM Modi. 'We are deeply dismayed that the Indian prime minister has once again chosen to accuse Pakistan of involvement in the Pahalgam attack, without presenting a single piece of credible evidence,' it said in a statement, as per news agency PTI. PM Modi accused Pakistan of targeting "insaniyat and Kashmiriyat" through the terror attack in Pahalgam during his speech in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. PM Modi reiterated that the April 22 Pahalgam attack was a stark example through which Pakistan "intended to incite communal violence in India and cripple the earnings of hardworking Kashmiris". 'What happened in Pahalgam on April 22 is a clear example of this. Pakistan attacked both insaaniyat and Kashmiriyat in Pahalgam. Its intention was to incite riots in India. Its aim was to stop the earnings of the hardworking people of Kashmir. That's why Pakistan targeted the tourists,' PM Modi said while addressing a rally in Katra after inaugurating the first direct train service to the Kashmir Valley. He added, 'The way the people of Jammu and Kashmir have stood up against Pakistan's conspiracy, the strength shown by the people this time has not only sent a strong message to Pakistan, but also to the entire world's terrorist mindset. Jammu and Kashmir's people have given a powerful response.' Earlier on Friday, the prime minister inaugurated the Chenab bridge and India's first cable-stayed Anji bridge, both symbols of India's engineering excellence, before flagging off Vande Bharat trains to mark the completion of the 272-km Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla railway link (USBRL) providing direct train connectivity to the Valley. About two weeks after the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7.
