With the month of August right around the corner, things are about to get even hotter with the Al Mirzam season upon us, according to UAE astronomer Ibrahim Al Jarwan. Recently, parts of the UAE were hit with sporadic showers, sandstorms and even hail, taking residents by surprise amid soaring temperatures in most areas of the country. During this time, other regions of the UAE that did not get any rainfall saw the the Mercury cross 50 ° C. According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), a temperature of 50.6 ° C was recorded on Thursday, July 31. Temperatures could go higher with the arrival of the Al Mirzam period, which falls between July 29 and August 10. The weather in general is expected to be fair to partly cloudy. Humid conditions are expected by night and Saturday morning over some coastal and internal areas westward, with a probability of fog or mist formation. Temperatures on Thursday, July 31, dipped to a low of 24.3°C in Raknah (Al Ain) at 5.45am. Meanwhile, the highest temperature recorded was in Um Azimul (Al Ain) at 50.6°C at 2.45pm. Light to moderate southeasterly to northeasterly winds are set to blow on Friday, freshening at times during daytime causing blowing dust, with a speed of 10-25 km/hr, reaching 40 km/hr. The sea will be slight in the Arabian Gulf and slight to moderate at times in Oman Sea. Temperatures are expected to drop to a low of 28°C in some areas of Abu Dhabi and Jebel Jais and reach a high of 49°C in some areas of the Capital like Sweihan and Gasyoura. Meanwhile in Dubai, temperatures are expected to reach highs of 46°C and dip to 35°C. Sharjah will see a maximum rise of 44°C and a low of 34°C.
