3 Assam Women Hit By Train While Crossing Tracks, Were Going On Morning Walk
A morning walk turned deadly for three women in Assam after they were hit by a train. The accident occurred near Bamunigaon Railway Station when the women were crossing a railway track. Northeast Frontier Railway authority has requested the public not to venture near railway tracks or cross railway tracks except authorised places/locations to avoid any unfortunate incident.
At around 5:25 am, two trains - Ujanimukha Puri Express and an NMG goods train - were crossing the area simultaneously. The women allegedly heard the horn and switched tracks but were hit by the other train - Guwahati-bound Puri Express.
Locals have alleged that since the Puri Express was on an electric engine and in full speed, it did not blow its horn, which is why women, walking beside the track, did not realise the train was coming from behind.
The women came from a Boko village, 300 meters away from the railway track. The victims have been identified as Rumi Das (55), Korabi Malu (60), and Uttara Das (60).
"At about 5:25 am, an unfortunate incident took place when 03 ladies, who had come onto the railway track between Bamunigaon and Boko stations in the Kamakhya - Goalpara route, were run over by Train number 15643," said Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer, Northeast Frontier Railway.
Boko Police responded to the accident and have launched an inquiry. Authorities are expected to review the safety infrastructure in the accident-prone section. Locals are urging railway officials and the government to implement immediate safeguards to prevent further tragedies.
Locals claim that in the past two decades, at least 20 people have died after being hit by a train.

SP cautions autorickshaw drivers to behave properly with passengers in Tirupati
Superintendent of Police (SP) V. Harshavardhan Raju delivered a bittersweet message — 'Pay heed or pay the price' — to the autorickshaw drivers of Tirupati, on Wednesday. It may be recalled that the Tirupati traffic police had recently launched a mobile application, where passengers boarding an autorickshaw could scan a QR code and gather details of the driver. The application also allows the passengers to lodge complaint against a driver if they face any kind of trouble or misbehaviour from the latter's side. The police command control centre, which would then receive the complaint, will initiate suitable action on the driver. Despite strengthening the measures for the safety of the passengers and to maintain law and order, an unsavoury incident rocked Tirupati recently. A passenger, that too a Tirumala-bound pilgrim, was thrashed by a group of auto rickshaw drivers over a petty issue. Though it later turned out to be a case of the passenger verbally abusing the driver, the latter had to face penal action for landing physical blows on the victim. SP's message Mr. Raju, who formally inaugurated a police outpost at Annamayya Circle Junction in Tirupati on Wednesday, distributed sweets to the autorickshaw drivers, and at the same time, minced no words in cautioning them. Without referring to the assault, Mr. Raju called upon the autorickshaw drivers to behave properly with the passengers. He also appealed to the autorickshaw unions not to blindly support or side with an erring driver, rather use their sense of judgment to prevent the recurrence of such incidents. Additional Superintendents of Police J. Venkat Rao (Admin) and K. Ravi Manoharachari (Law and Order), Deputy Superintendents V. Bhaktavatsalam, Ravi Kumar, Ramakrishna Chary and Bhaskar Naik also took part.

Fisherfolk block railway track at Thangachimadam; train delayed by an hour
Fishermen along with family members demanding immediate release of the fishermen languishing in Sri Lanka prisons, blocked the railway the track near Thangachimadam for about an hour here on Tuesday. As a continuation to the indefinite strike which started on August 11, 2025, following the arrest of seven Indian fishermen from Rameswaram by Sri Lankan Navy on August 9, the fishermen associations and families of fisherfolk community, as announced, blocked the railway track at Thangachimadam. Due to the blockade, the Tambaram-bound train from Rameswaram was delayed by about an hour, said police sources. However, the protesters, following talks with the District Revenue Officer and Superintendent of Police, dispersed. Jesu Raja, a fishermen leader, said the officials assured them that their grievance was already taken to the officials in the Union government. 'Also, we were informed that we would soon be given a date to meet Chief Minister M.K. Stalin,' he added. Though the motive of the protesters was not to disturb the public in any way, due to their inability to express their anger and grievance, they resorted to blocking the train, he stated. Their strike would continue in the following days until a unanimous decision was taken by the fishermen associations, he noted.
