GA Dept. of Public Safety opens new aviation hangar at its Atlanta headquarters
The Georgia Department of Public Safety opened a new aviation hangar at its headquarters in Atlanta on Tuesday.
The modern facility will serve as a base of operations for the DPS Aviation Division, which uses a fleet of helicopters to support law enforcement, emergency responses, and search and rescue operations across the state.
The new, larger hangar will store aircraft, maintenance, flight operations, and training.
'This hangar is a significant step forward in supporting the multi-faceted work of our Aviation Division. By centralizing our resources, we are better equipped to serve communities across Georgia with greater speed, efficiency, and coordination,' Colonel William Hitchens III said.
Gov. Brian Kemp, First Lady Marty Kemp, and Lt. Gov. Burt Jones were among those who attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday.

Neighbors, business owners on Cascade Road fed up with years of construction
Neighbors and business owners along a busy corridor in southwest Atlanta just want to see the end to construction and detours. For over three years, more than two miles of Cascade Road have been under construction. 'We are watching our community slowly poisoned to death,' one neighbor said. Overstreet said the city and organizations are trying to help businesses make it through. 'It is a long journey, going on way too long, and we'll all be better off once we're on the other side of this and it's buttoned up,' she said. Channel 2 Action News reached out to the Atlanta Department of Transportation, but officials did not give a hard date for the project's completion. New real estate report shows how many homes in Atlanta area are owned by investors, not residents
Georgia was among the top three states for how many houses investors are trying to sell. While the state's portion of investors selling homes is 15.9%, the same report said the statewide share of investors buying in the state is 17.3%. But in the metro Atlanta area, the portion is even higher. Data from their latest report showed that Atlanta investors had 17.7% of the homes in the area, a 1.5% increase. Atlanta named 2nd most expensive city for rentals in metro area
A new rent report from Zumper named Atlanta as the second most expensive city to rent in across the metro area. With a one-bedroom apartment rental price at $1,600 and a two-bedroom unit at $2,100 on average, Zumper said Atlanta was only lower to rent in than Alpharetta, where rents are averaging $1,760 for a one-bedroom unit. The real estate company said Atlanta's prices had fallen by 0.6% for a one-bedroom and the two-bedroom prices had stayed unchanged. The City of Roswell's rental prices were the third highest in the area, with rent at $1,560 for a single bedroom unit. On the bottom of metro area rental scale was Carrollton, where rents are less than $900 for a one-bedroom unit, Zumper said. Next were LaGrange, with rents at $930 and Griffin, at $990. The Zumper rent report said that over the past year, Alpharetta prices had gone down 2.2% and Atlanta had fallen by 3%, but Roswell was up almost 10% for just a single bedroom apartment.
